The Expression and Clinical Significance of Survivin in Renal Cell Carcinoma

Abstract:Objective To investigate the effect and significance of Survivin oncogenesis and progression on renal cell carcinoma,and the relationship between Survivin expression and biology behavior(clinical stages,pathological grades and lymphatic metastases)of renal cell carcinoma,providing evidence for diagnosis,therapy and prognosis of renal cell carcinoma.Methods Immunohistochemical analysis was performed to detect the Survivin protein,then carrying out relative analyses between survivin protein expression and clinical stage,pathological grade and lymphatic metastases of renal cell carcinoma.All statistical analyses were carried out with SPSS 21.0 software.The probability of less than 5 ％ was assumed to be statistically significant (P ＜ 0.05).Results ①The positive rate of Survivin protein expression on the renal cell carcinoma was 73.1％ (19/26),and the positive expression of Survivin wasnt found in the normal renal tissues(0/16).Survivin expressions in renal cell carcinoma were significantly higher than those in normal renal tissues,there was significant difference (P ＜ 0.05).②In stage Ⅰ-Ⅱ,the positive rate of Survivin protein was 45.5 ％ (5/11).In stage Ⅲ-Ⅳ,the positive rate of Survivin protein was 93.3 ％ (14/15).There was significant difference between the two groups (P ＜ 0.05).There was significant difference between the two groups (P ＜ 0.05).③In the poorly differentiated group and the differentiation group,the positive rate of Survivin protein expression was 92.3％ (12/13).In the well-differentiated group,the positive rate of Survivin protein expression was 53.8％ (7/13).There was significant difference between the two groups (P ＜ 0.05).There was significant difference between the two groups (P ＜ 0.05).④The positive rate of Survivin protein expression was 93.3％ (14/15) in patients with lymph node metastasis and 45.5％ (5/11) in those without.There was significant association between expression of Survivin protein and metastasis (P ＜0.05).⑤There was no association between the expression of Survivin and ages and sexes of patients.Conclusions ①The expressions of Survivin are significantly higher in renal cell carcinoma than those in normal renal tissue,while no expression of Survivin is detected in the normal kidney tissue.②The expressions of Survivin in renal cell carcinoma are positively related to the clinical stages,pathological grades and lymphatic metastases.The expressions of Survivin in Ⅲ and Ⅳ period group are higher than those in Ⅰ and Ⅱ period group,and the expressions in the poorly differentiated group and the differentiation group are higher than in the well-differentiated group.In addition,the expression in the lymph node metastasis group is also higher than those in the other group.③Survivin is expected to become an important biological indicator to evaluate the metastasis and prognosis of renal cell carcinoma,and may be a novel therapeutic target of renal cell carcinoma.
