Determination of Available Bromine of Trace Dibromohydantoin(DBDMH) in Water by ABTS Spectrophotometry

Abstract:For determination of low level of dibromohydantoin(DBDMH) in water,2,2'-azobis(3-ethylbenzothiazole-6-sulfonaic acid)(ABTS) spectrophotometric method was used to detect available bromine in DBDMH under wavelength of 405 nm.The method is based on the reaction of available bromine with ABTS when pH is 2,which forms a stable green radical(ABTS·+).A good linear relationship with available bromine on range of 0.08~1.61 mg / L can be achieved,and the limit of detection is 0.02 mg / L.The effect of ammonia produced by the hydrolysis of DBDMH can be ignored.
