Abstract:The rapid development of the urbanization in China is based on the high pollutions, high consumptions and low efficiencies, so this development model has resulted in the waste of resources and environmental pollutions, and it has been not suitable for the modern sustainable development. Through the research on the planning of the ecological city and green building designs, based on the theory of eco city planning and green building designs, the strategy of eco city planning and the system of green building designs were summarized systematically. In this paper, it was applied to the green building design and the city planning of the eco city A in China; the overall energy saving, transportations, services, energy consumptions were defined; the whole ecosystem engineering was implemented. It has certain referential significances to the planning and green building design of similar ecological cities in China, and it will help our country to design and accelerate the construction of the urbanization.

Abstract:Cities are important areas for human activities, where urban ecology provides important support for economic and social development such as water resources, pollution purification and climate regulation. Cities occupy only 3% of the earth’s land area but provide housing for more than 2/3 of the population. A large amount of resources (60–80% energy consumption) are consumed in cities, while a vast number of wastes and around 75% of carbon emissions are generated and emitted into the environment, creating a huge impact on the urban environment and ecology. As cities become increasingly large, the disorderly development of complex urban elements (e.g. buildings, traffic, landscape and industry) further exacerbates the regulation imbalance of urban ecology and environment. To achieve the ultimate goal of harmonious coexistence between people and nature, the urban production space, living space and ecological space must be planned and designed scientifically and reasonably. Urban planning is such a process to design the land use and the built environment, which is essential for creating a healthy and liveable, green and sustainable urban ecology. By using systematic thinking and holistic concepts, the scientific and reasonable layout of urban elements can reduce adverse effects on the urban environment from the beginning. However, current urban planning and environmental planning are often disconnected. Traditional urban planning focuses more on spatial layout and morphology with less focus on the primary position of the ecological environment in urban planning. Moreover, the contradiction between ecological and social aspects, history protection and future development, and interdisciplinary and technology integration is not well balanced in urban planning. Thus, the multi-dimensional conflict involved in ecological urban planning is a challenge that needs to be addressed urgently. This paper discusses the current research trends and provides some development recommendations for a sustainable and ecological urban environment.

Abstract:Urban planning led by single-minded planned economy or single-minded market economy does harm to the sustainability of urban development. The author proposes a new urban planning paradigm featuring ecological rationality and Chinese traditional rationality, which is a reformation and correction of the idealistic planning and the problem- oriented planning. This new urban planning paradigm requires thorough understanding of the demands of the age of ecological civilization, respecting cities as life-beings with consciousness, intelligence and dignity; employs cutting-edge technologies such as big-data, AI, mobile communication and cloud computing as supports to the ideological and technological advancement of urban planning; and continuouslyexplores urban development principles and makes plans and reach decisions accordingly. Those four aspects are the fundamentals on which the new ecologically- rational planning paradigm is established. This paper, by analyzing the transformation of planning ideology and actual planning cases, illustrates how in the course of multi- element and sustainable development of future cities and human-beings, new urban planning should treat the ecological civilization as its ultimate goal and innovation as the driver for new development while paying due respect to the basic principles of urbanization.

Abstract:By case studies,the paper reviews foresights planning thoughts of greenbelt,green heart,ecological network,open space,greenway which originated from urban and region planning in western developed countries.It analyses the significance of water system,wetland,roof garden,vertical planting,which were greatly neglected in the past,for green space system planning of rural-urban continuum with the consideration of Chinese existing conditions.Finally,based on local characteristics of Asian mega cities,this paper points out that some planning methods of distinguishing urban and country commonly used in western developed countries are not suited well for Asian mega cities,and that Asian cities should find new developing ways.

Abstract:Ecological planning has aroused people's attention since it was raised in the 1960s, and got rapid popularization and development.It is a bridge that links town and country planning with environmental planning.This paper firstly analyzes the meaning of the ecological planning and its development at home and aboard.Then,starting from the analysis of the regional backgrounds and the available data on the local conditions,the author evaluates the ecological sensitivity and the ecological adaptable degree of Wuqiangxi Valley.Based upon which the ecological planning of the whole region that aims to set up the ecological protective areas,to make scale use of land,to set up rational allocation of industry in the light of local conditions and to build an artificial swamp urban sewage treatment system has been made. Finally,the paper analyses the advantages of ecological planning over environmental planning during the integrative renovation of the environment by indicating the ecological planning is more favorable to maintain the benign cycle of the whole environmental system.At the same time,the author identifies some deficiencies of the ecological planning at present,which mainly includes that the analytical method of ecological sensitivity is not perfected and the evaluation of ecological adaptable degree has some shortcomings.

Abstract:Through the research on the development stages of the green space system, it was considered that the key for the planning of the urban green space system towards eco-city is to construct urban ecological green space system. In this paper, based on the requirement of eco-city construction, landscape ecology model (patch-corridor-matrix) was adopted to analyze the urban green space system. Simultaneously, the principle and methodology for the plan were provided. Finally, according to the framework of the urban green space system plan for ecological city, the author made a sample study of Changzhou City in Jiangsu Province and put forward a preliminary plan for its ecological green space construction. And it was important for the environment improvement and the sustainable development in China.

Abstract:Ecological planning is one of the most important tools in realizing city's sustainable development. The ecological planning in China was started in the 1980s, and on the basis of assimilating the existing theoretical and practical experiences from western countries, basically formed a theoretical system in accordance with the Chinese characteristics and acquired a series of practical results. This paper reviewed the research and development processes of China' s ecological planning. It is considered that the study of our ecological planning was derived from the geographical principles of land resources ecological utilization, the ecological principles of complex ecological system theory, and the combination of these two principles. The ecological planning has experienced three research stages, i. e., single-disciplinary exploration, multi-disciplinary and multi-perspective study (including landscape ecology, ecology and urban planning), and interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary collaboration research. The ecological planning and the related conceptions, primary principles, main academic points, and representatives at each research stage were summarized, and through the discrimination of the basic conceptions of ecological planning and other related plans, it was pointed out that ecological planning is an general conception which includes land ecological planning, urban ecological planning, and eco-city planning, and the principles and theories of ecological planning should be integrated into, led and restricted the present planning system to promote the city's and regional sustainable development.

Abstract:Contemporary urban living environment design and construction process are facing lots of ecological issues. It needs us to find a new perspective and efficient design approach which can become the bridge or link between special form and optimized function structure, natural and human resources protection, traffic and physical environment improvement, land-use saving and energy sustainability, landscape environment and behavior system design, etc. Based on Urban Design subject, Ecological Urban Design regards special environment system as research object, uses Ecology principles for reference, harmonizes relationship of natural and built environment and urban inhabitant, and becomes an important method and theory to adjust urban special environment ecology. For promoting Ecology Urban Design theory developing, it is necessary to create a research and practice platform for Urban Design and Ecology. Meanwhile, we need not only absorb foreign experiences, but also recognize our country objective condition and demand, explore Chinese Ecological Urban Design theory and practice. It has an important meaning to build up our country living ecological environment and develop local Urban Design theories.

Abstract:A smart city requires the organic integration of a good ecological environment with people’s healthy life, so that the city can achieve the purpose of economic construction and ecological environmental protection. In this case, the spatial layout of a smart city must be based on the ecological environment. Under the guidance of the concept of ecological protection, the ecological space of smart cities is not only green space and parks. At the same time, the building communities in the city and the construction land in the city should be green and environmentally friendly. These situations require planning and design in the spatial design layout through networking and informatization. This article mainly studies the space development of smart cities under the integration of information technology and ecological environment from the perspective of urban space architectural planning. A series of problems in our country’s cities and the close connection between smart cities and the ecological environment. After comprehensively analyzing the smart city spatial planning of different cities and regions under the influence of the ecological environment, it tries to analyze the guiding role and development direction of the smart city spatial architectural layout planning under the ecological environment.

Abstract:In recent years, the conflict between human activities and the natural environment has caused the deterioration of the natural environment and human settlements, forcing people to re-examine the relationship between man and nature and architecture and the natural environment. With the concept of sustainable development put forward, architects began to think about how to solve the impact of building on energy and environment from the root. The emergence of ecological building is based on this background, and traditional buildings ignore its ecological impact on the surrounding environment and internal micro environment, resulting in the fact that large numbers of existing green buildings are non-ecological. In view of this situation, this paper first from the ecological point of view expounds the dilemma of human survival due to the excessive destruction of the natural environment, takes architecture as the research scope, takes the ecological characteristics of green buildings as the starting point, and first analyses the impact of green buildings on the urban ecological environment from the perspective of urban design, combined with examples; the paper puts forward different ecological design strategies from the aspects of the preliminary design planning of green building, the design of each part of the building, the design of the internal environment of the building, and the ecological operation in the later stage of the building; sums up the ecological evaluation standards of green building; and finally prospects the development trend of ecological green building in the future.

Abstract:Urbanization is the core of the Chinese socio-economic development, which is important for the solution of rural-urban harmonious development, enlarging domestic demands, promoting the living quality. But the city government has focused on the GDP incensement ignoring the long-term sustainability since 1990. Urban economy, society, ecology and safety etc. became more and more vulnerable. It's necessary to transit the older urbanization model and build a healthful model through constructing humanism city. On the other hand, city planning paid too much attention to the physical space, economic efficiency and lost its responsibility of maintaining the public benefit, struggling for the lower group. So under the challenging situation, such as globalization, rural-urban migration, market reform, city planning had to be regulated to suit for the serious urban problems. Considering the huge inertia of the administration system, it would be effective to permit the public, especial the NGO, to participate in and supervise the urban planning, to inquire the use of city finance.
Activating Eco-City in China: the System Engineering for Cities' Green Transition

Abstract:The development of eco-city in China turns to a phenomenon recently, and some sample projects have been scheduled in the nationwide. Nevertheless, the planning of eco-city focuses on static construction with green technologies; in this study, the planning and operation of eco-city will be regarded as a complex system engineering that requires collaboration of systems from various categories and considerations for the sustainable development of eco-city. The framework suggests a core of circular economy that activates and maintains the development of eco-city; four key categories in the process of system engineering will interlink to each other and interact with economy activities in the framework. Several pilot international standards of eco-city, including LEED-ND, CASBEE-UD, and EEWH-EC are applied to monitor and evaluate the performance of entire eco-city system. Through the system engineering process, challenges and goals of eco-city will be analyzed and clarified at early stage, and a supposed framework of system design will be applied for planning and operating with monitoring mechanism. This work will enhance viewpoints of urban designing towards a more dynamic, systematic insight of eco-city development.

Abstract:The world is in an era of ecological civilization after undergoing primitive civilization, agricultural civilization, and industrial civilization, which indicates that China's urban and rural planning is also in a new environment. The Chinese Communist Party and Government have proposed to "prioritize ecological civilization construction" and "make efforts to build a beautiful China to realize a sustainable development." In response to the current situation and the future trend of urban development, China has to achieve significant changes in urban transitional development. During the process that China carried out low carbon eco-city construction, it has gained a lot and also met with difficulties. From the perspective of ecological civilization, China has to alter its urban and rural planning concept, aim higher planning objectives, optimize planning contents, innovate planning technologies, and make relevant planning policies.
