Abstract:The production of desirable secondary metabolites in herbal medicine by hairy roots has great potential for market and it is crucial to develop proper bioreactors for hairy root culture.In this paper,various kinds of bioreactors,such as stirred-tank,air-lift,nutrient mist,and so on.Their respective traits and advantages for hairy root culture were also discussed in detail,together with the influences on metabolite accumulation.Moreover,some proposals were put forward for further development of large-scale hairy root culture of herbal medicine using bioreactor.
