Abstract:Idea, theory, understanding and ideal are four important categories or dimensions of educational research. From their respective viewpoints, the idea as an ontology pursues the originality and genes of education; the theory as an epistemology emphasizes the causes or conditions of educational phenomena and results; the understanding as a humanism characterizes the differences of different time and space and individual thoughts and behaviors; and the ideal as an purposivism points to the usefulness of educational research. Educational ideas, theories, understandings and ideals are an interconnected and mutually complementary organic whole, which is of great significance to the production of pedagogical knowledge and the construction of its autonomous knowledge system.

Abstract:What is the most important factor influencing human learning? Different instructional theories give very different answers to this question,because they take different perspectives on learning and thus focus on other desired learning outcomes,other methods affecting learning processes,and other conditions under which learning takes place.There are eight prevailing research paradigms have influenced and still strongly influence theory development in the field of educational communications and technology.It will be argued that research is typically done within one particular paradigm,but that researchers should be conscious of the fact that paradigms heavily affect their research methods and findings.Moreover,researchers should be open to alternative theories and paradigms because new developments often take place at the interface between paradigms.

Abstract:In order to make an objective description of educational situations in different historic periods,it is very necessary to examine the connotation and extension of the educational concepts in different periods.Besides,to reestablish Chinese education study,it is also necessary to dig out the theoretic resources of traditional education,set up a bridge of transforming traditional educational concepts to modern educational ones.In a sense,the research on the history of Chinese education concepts should avoid an outdated mode of being from concept to concept,instead,it should center around two aspects,i.e.the change of historical facts reflected in the concepts and the change in the words describing the comcepts to probe into the evoluting process and rules of concepts themselves.

Educational narrative research can be shown as either ture narration or fabled narration. It can either narrate stories without any comments or explanations on the stories, or review or explain the stories told by oneself or others. No matter narrative research adopts the mode of history research or that of investigation research, its basic route is to collect and explain information to form grounded theory, among which the keystone is to analyze information and form grounded theory.

Abstract:The question of what counts as good education research has received a great deal of attention, but too often it is conceived principally as a methodological question rather than an ethical one. Good education research is a matter not only of sound procedures but also of beneficial aims and results; our ultimate aim as researchers and educators is to serve people’s well-being. For their research to be deemed good in a strong sense, education researchers must be able to articulate some sound connection between their work and a robust and justifiable conception of human well-being. There is a good deal of history and convention against such a conception of researchers’ work. We need to consider the conditions needed if that conception is to be realized. Among the conditions is a concerted and cooperative endeavor for moral education among researchers and the people with whom they work—a context where questions of well-being are foregrounded, welcomed, and vigorously debated.

Abstract:The deficiency of correct explanation and practice in the educational research method has been the main contradiction, which restricted the reasonableness, exactness and reliability of the production of the educational research. Thus, it is important to evaluate the validity and reliability of the productions what was close in contact with another question of constructing the education theory logically. There are no less than three rules related to the evaluation of the educational research productions: the reliability of view-evidence; the validity of the data-explanation: the reasonableness of the concept-proposition. Approximately, there are two ideal models to construct educational theory: ABCDEF (to validate theory) and CDEFBA (to construct theory) model. The ideal models are propitious to evaluate the validity or the reliability of a certain education research correctly, and help the educational theory research to develop more maturely and healthily.

Abstract:In education research, the characteristics of theory logic limit the theory seeing through practice, which makes the theory confronted the dangerous of distortion when the practice is brought into the theory dialogue. Bourdieu raised ＂practical logic＂, and considered it as the medium binding theory and practice, which was of methodology significance for education research. Practical logic was produced in the interaction between practitioner and surroundings. Deeply understanding education practice, free from scholasticism epistmology, the generation of the concept of epistmology should be inspected in the social history condition. Insisting on the unification of history and logic, it＇s possible to reconstruct the practical logic of varieties of education activities, and improve it in the examination of practice.

Abstract:Critics often characterise the study of educational technology as under‐theorised. To test this assertion and to determine the extent of this criticism, the present paper reports an in‐depth analysis of the 503 most recent empirical articles published in three selected education‐technology‐related journals (Computers & Education; Learning, Media and Technology; and British Journal of Educational Technology). These journals were selected because they publish studies related to all education settings rather than focusing on only a certain segment such as higher education; they have broad geographical catchment; and they were the most highly ranked journals in terms of their 2017 journal citation impact factor. The present paper examines how explicitly existing theory was identified in previous research, how theories were applied and how often these theories were advanced in education technology research. In the majority of cases, explicit engagement with theory was absent. Many studies either were wholly bereft of theories or made vague use of theory. Where theory was explicit, the articles were more likely to use theory to conceptualise the research, to inform the data collection or analysis process and to discuss the results. Very few articles reported findings that help us to learn something new about a particular theory (ie, little evidence of theory advancement).

Abstract:'Logic' is a growing and changing concept.Logic is concerned with human thinking;it refines the prescriptions of how human beings should think from the descriptions of how human beings actually think.Because of the development of human thinking and the change of human's wants in cognition and practice,logical studies of different historical periods usually show important difference in their subject matters,emphases,methodologies and results,and then the varieties of logical theories have been multiplied.In the push of computer science and artificial intelligence research,contemporary logic becomes to focus on the investigation of how human actually think on different concrete topics,and brings itself some new characteristics,e.g.the direct and obvious description of actual process of thinking,the complexity of logical techniques,the uncertainty of the conclusions of inference,and the pursue of the applicability of the resulting theories,and so on.We can't take the dominant approach of a historical period to be absolutely or uniquely correct one,and use it to judge all the research of our historical predecessors and contemporary colleagues.We should never forget the slogan that 'independence in spirit,freedom in thinking' which is the soul of academic research,and never forget to put it into practice in our logical studies.We should maintain academic standards and protect academic freedom at the same time.

Abstract:It has been highly emphasized in the Chinese academic tradition that scholars should set up usefulness the uppermost purpose in their scholarly undertakings. Nevertheless the use of knowledge is not such a simple question, and instant utility is not the sole criterion for judging the value of knowledge. While knowledge can bring benefits in its application, purely seeking usefulness may hamper the pursuit of knowledge. History as a kind of knowledge has, as it is generally understood, various practical uses, but it is essentially one of the fundamental elements that compose a culture. It provides a basis for group identification, and helps people explore the meaning of life. Therefore the primary significance of studying history is to promote the building up of a culture, rather than to figure out solutions for realistic problems. The pursuit of knowledge is the foundation of historical studies, and historians must start from that point to seek uses for historical knowledge.

Abstract:Technology has been an important influence on the development of education. However, very little research in Educational Technology considers this history, and even less questions it. In this paper, we argue that our understanding of educational technology should be informed by the philosophy of technology – a field that has attempted to explore what these historical developments mean. This paper focuses on the ontological turn in philosophy and the technological thought of Marx and Heidegger. This is used to propose a foundation that can help researchers rethink educational technology, expanding research to account for human-education, human-technology and education-technology relations. It is proposed that human-education relationships should make students 'become what they are', highlighting their subjectivity rather than concentrating on information. Human-technology relationships can change the focus of design practice, so that technology is not merely seen as an efficient tool, but something 'handy' for peoples' educational needs. Education-technology relationships explain how technology can shape education, and re-introduces the idea of 'techne' as something to be valued in education.
