Abstract:Social theory is not just a field of the discipline of sociology, but the foundation of the entire modern humanities and social sciences. Marx initiated the tradition of critical social theory, further founded the entire classical and modern social theory at large, and created modern philosophy and social science based on the critique of statecraft and the critique of political economy. Marxist social theory has its philosophical nature and its totality, embodying the inner unity of historical materialism, dialectical materialism, and the new materialist view of practice. In Marx’s theory, social theory is non-disciplinary or interdisciplinary by nature, but it is subordinate to the “science of human” and is a concrete application of the materialist historical view in the field of social history. Therefore, it is necessary to be adapted to the practice of various modern humanities and social sciences so as to form a corresponding disciplinary form. Marxist social theory should not be seen as a discipline under sociology or philosophy or history, but as the basis of the entire modern humanities and social sciences, and requires concretization in specific social science disciplines. Whether the resources of marxist social theory can be organically incorporated into the system of humanities and social sciences determines to a large extent the quality, creativity, and ability of self-innovation in the development of humanities and social sciences.
