TAXONOMIC STUDY ON CHINESE SPECIES OF THE GENUS PARANTICA MOORE(LEPIDOPTERA,NYMPHALIDAE,DANAINAE)

Abstract:The genus Parantica is represented in China by four species:Parantica aglea(Stoll),P.sita(Kollar),P.pedonga Fujioka,and P.melaneus(Cramer).P.hainanica Chou et Yuan,2001 is proposed as a new synonym of P.aglea(Stoll,1782).Furthermore,generic diagnosis,world checklist of the genus,a key to Chinese species are included,and Chinese species are described and illustrated in this paper with distribution and host data.The specimens examined are deposited separately in the Shanghai Entomological Museum,Chinese Academy of Sciences(SEMCAS),Tianjin Natural Museum(TNM),which are indicated after specimen record;and also in the Entomological Museum,Northwest A & F University(not indicated).
