Abstract:Objective To investigate the prevalence of computer-related musculoskeletal disorders in college students in Beijing, and to explore the associated risk factors. Methods A total of 394 college students were investigated with the Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire( NMQ) and Chinese Internet Addiction Scale-Revised( CIAS-R). Results The prevalence of musculoskeletal disorders in college students was 68. 8%. About 71. 6% of the students reported using computer for the first time before high school. About 47. 5% reported daily computer use for 1. 0-2. 9 hours, and 30. 2% were diagnosed as Internet addiction. While using computer,62. 9% reported not sitting with the right posture,90. 4% not having a adjustable chair,84. 8% not knowing about musculoskeletal disorders,92. 9% not receiving ergonomic instructions. Logistic regression analysis indicated that gender, grade, early computer use,not having a adjustable chair and Internet addiction were the main risk factors of musculoskeletal disorders. Conclusion Computer-related musculoskeletal disorders is very common in college students, and the influencing factors are multiple. Health guidance should be enforced for the college students because of their weak self-protective awareness..
