Abstract:Scientific research begins with research questions. To find meaningful research questions, one has to conduct a literature review to analyze and criticize the findings and conclusions in current research. A literature review consists of three steps, which are a literature search, a literature selection, and a literature critique. In this article, the authors carefully choose research examples in IR studies to illustrate the process and methods of conducting a literature review. The authors believe that this discussion and analysis will help young IR researchers and students gain a better understanding of literature reviews and to come up with meaningful research questions.
