Estlander Flap for Large Defects of Lower Lip with Oral Commissure to Reconstruct the Lower Lip Cancer

Abstract:Objective By reviewing the cases with large defects of lower lip with oral commissure reconstructed by the method of Estlander flap,to analysis and summary.Methods The study reviews the surgical outcome of 5 patients with invasive tumors at,or extending to,the lower lip,treated at the Xi'an Jiaotong University-Surgical Oral Oncology Department,from 2006 to 2009.4 males,1 female,aged between 50 to 63.The technique used for lip reconstruction was Estlander flap.Observing the morphological and functional recovery.Results All the flaps are alive and the site healed well.All the cases there were no complications such as venous return disturbance or sialorrhea.Sensation returned within 3 months,and contraction of the lips appeared within 6 months.The symmetry of oral commissures was maintained after the second procedure and the appearance was almost cosmetically satisfactory.Conclusion To reconstruct the defects between 1/3～2/3 of lower lip with oral commissure by the Estlander flap can achieve satisfactory clinical results.
