Abstract:Bed is a main component of a large precision linear rolling guide CNC grinding machine tool Its dynamic characteristics impact on machine tool’s machining precision and stability directly. In this paper, boundary conditions on the bed of a machine tool factory’s production are analyzed. By using FEA method, the bed finite element models for dynamic analysis model are established and calculated. It provides guidance in investigating the effect factors of machining precision, the machine tool’s structure optimization and error compensation.

Abstract:On the basis of analyzing primary process and structure of gray iron braking plate,hydrodynamic software Flow-3D was used to simulate the distribution of defect and temperature field in different improved casting systems.According to the simulated results,the merits and faults of all programmers were investigated and the feasible casting system was determined.The results showed that steady flow of molten metal,less spatter and uniform temperature distribution could be achieved and impurity defect mainly distributed in gate riser or nonworking surface when adopting the casting system with unidirectional ingate,which gave the braking plate better quality.

Abstract:Because the car must be in the process of braking, including deceleration and parking and including downhill to maintain the speed of stability, in addition to the above driving brake should also include parking brake which is to maintain the stop of the vehicle that continues to maintain static, according to the law of Conservation of Energy. The kinetic energy of the brake drum of the rotating part of the friction p air is converted into the internal energy of the friction plate on the friction surface, which is very dangerous due to the thermal decay performance of the existing brakes. It is urgent to implement the cooling system of brake in the above conditions. This paper mainly aimed at the braking performance of the thermal decline of the design of automatic control cooling device, first of all by the sensor to collect the car brake signal, with the opening of the cooling system work that will be normal temperature air cooling into cold air and drum to the cooling parts, complete drum brake cooling, improve the active safety performance of automobiles. In this paper, we select the devices used in the cooling system through the actual working condition of the automobile, and finally design a practical solution.

Abstract:The structural design of the brake disc of urban rail trains, especially the design of the heat dissipation rib structure, affects the heat dissipation performance of the brake disc. Unreasonable design can lead to poor heat dissipation performance and generate energy consumption caused by large air-pumping resistance. However, the current structural design method for brake discs does not consider material characteristics and continues with materials such as steel and iron. There is no long-term service performance testing applicable to brake disc service conditions for lightweight and high-strength materials such as aluminum matrix composites. In addition, there is no comprehensive and systematic analysis of the structural design of cooling ribs. Therefore, a structure of SiCp/A356 brake discs for urban rail trains was designed in this work. Different from the previous design method, long-term performance testing of materials was conducted first, and then the heat dissipation performance and energy loss performance of different cooling rib structures were systematically analyzed to select the appropriate cooling rib structure. Based on long-term performance testing results, cooling rib optimization, and material forming process, a new brake disc structure was designed. The thermal-fluid–solid multi-field coupling simulation was conducted on the new structure brake disc under emergency braking and full round-trip conditions, and bench tests were conducted to verify the reliability of the simulation. Based on comprehensive simulation and bench test results, the new structure SiCp/A356 brake disc meets the established operating conditions. This design method considers material properties, multi-field coupling simulation, and engineering practice, which can a provide reference for the design of other brake discs and has high engineering application value.

Simulation of the Friction Temperature Field for Disc Brake

Abstract:The three-dimensional transient temperature field for disc brake were simulated using software COMSOL Multiphysics,the situation of temperature distribution for friction pairs device in the braking process and the effect of material thermal parameters on its temperature field were investigated.The results showed that at the high-temperature moment of the braking process of the disc brake,the high temperature place was located on the area of sliding out with the friction plate along the disk rotates direction;the surface temperature of brake disc decreased from the high temperature zone along the direction of the brake disc rotation;the surface temperature of friction plate decreased along the opposite direction of the brake disc rotation;the maximum radial temperature of the brake disc and friction plate in the braking process was located on the central part of the friction zone,the temperature of the outside radius and inside radius was lower,the temperature of the axial direction decreased from the friction surface layer to the inner layer direction;it can reduce the maximum temperature value of friction deputy surface by increasing any thermal parameter of the brake or friction plate,but compared to the friction plate,the effect of thermal conductivity,specific heat capacity and density of brake disc was much greater than the effect of friction plate's on the temperature of the friction deputy,the research content can provide a reference for the structural design and material selection of brake.

Abstract:A special electromagnetic brake is designed in a high speed rotating table where a quick braking is needed. Temperatures of the friction couple will rise very quickly due to the heat generated in braking process. Temperature status of the brake is analyzed in an ANSYS model when the rotating table is entirely brake at a speed of 15000 r/min within 0.15s, and different materials of friction couples are also considered in the paper. Results of simulation proved that the friction surfaces could not be sintered in the friction process, the selected iron-steel friction couple is suitable for the designed high speed brake, and the design is feasible in practical engineering.

Abstract:Using 3D modeling software, the part of brake head casting was divided and its modulus were calculated. Based on Proportional Solidification Theory, the proportional zones of the casting were determined by the net of the modulus distribution, and then the distribution of risers was planed as well as the foundry technology was plotted. Numerical simulation software was used to verify the technology and the actual pouring result shows the validity of the plan.

Abstract:When the width, thin steel strip is produced by hot tandem rolling, hot coil box technology is usually adopted, which is one of the key links in the entire production line. The hot coil box has a heat preservation effect on the transfer bar, which makes the temperature distributed uniformly, reducing energy consumption. Thus, it can improve product quality, and is beneficial to the control of thickness and shape. The temperature prediction of the transfer bar is very important, and its accuracy affects the calculating accuracy of the rolling force and the forecasting of the microstructure for strip in the finishing rolling. This paper investigates the temperature distribution of transfer bar from the rough mill delivery to the finish mill entrance. The boundary conditions for transfer bar passing across the transfer table and the equivalent thermal conductivity of the transfer bar coil are studied, finite difference equation is established. Temperature evolution of transfer bar and the influence of different process parameters on the temperature are obtained. Finally, the high accuracy of the model is verified by the measured data.

Abstract:Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part D: Journal of Automobile Engineering, Ahead of Print. Disc brakes are the most widely used key components in the braking system of various types of machinery and equipment. When it works, it converts kinetic energy into thermal energy, which will make the braking interface overheat, thus leading to thermal recession of the brake disc and brake pad, which will eventually seriously affect the service life of the machine. The study of temperature changes at the working interface of disc brakes during braking is of great significance to the selection of brake friction pairs and the setting of braking parameters, and is an important theoretical guarantee for improving the service life of brakes. Currently, there are extensive researches on the analysis of temperature fields at the working interface of disc brakes. This paper summarizes the latest numerical research progress of the friction interface temperature field of disc brakes, and evaluates the research status of the friction interface temperature field model, temperature field solution method, and thermodynamics. The review finds that the current numerical method has become the most common method for conducting thermal analysis of disc brakes. The finite element analysis based on thermal modeling, thermal-mechanical coupling methods, and temperature distribution is able to provide more research basis for studying the thermal failure of brake friction pairs, thermal damage mechanisms, and friction material wear mechanisms. Improving the accuracy of the thermal model calculation will be an important research direction for the future numerical analysis of the temperature field of disc brakes.
Thermal Cracking and Friction Performance of Two Kinds of Compacted Graphite Iron Brake Discs under Intensive Braking Conditions

Abstract:The limited thermal conductivity of compacted graphite iron constrains its application in brake discs. The matrix plays a crucial role in balancing the thermal conductivity and mechanical performance of compacted graphite iron. Therefore, two kinds of compacted graphite brake discs with different ferrite proportions were utilized to investigate their thermal cracking and friction performance under intensive braking conditions based on inertia friction tests. The variations in peak temperature, pressure load and friction coefficient stability were also analyzed. The brake disc with a higher ferrite proportion exhibited a lower peak temperature, attributed to increased thermal conductivity. Moreover, the elevated content of soft ferrite resulted in a greater furrow height on the worn surface, contributing to an increase in friction force and stability. As a result, both the input pressure and mechanical stress decreased. It was observed that the compacted graphite iron brake disc with a higher ferrite proportion exhibited fewer thermal cracks without compromising wear resistance. Furthermore, the results suggest that lowering the disc temperature to 210 °C–250 °C can mitigate fatigue wear and matrix oxidation, hindering the propagation of thermal cracks.

The Convective Heat Transfer Characteristics of the Brake Disc Surface of a High-Speed Train

Abstract:As a train gains speed, its kinetic energy and the heat energy produced in its breaking process increase greatly. The huge heat load produced by braking of the brake discs strongly affects the braking efficiency. Weak convective heat transfer on the surfaces of brake discs leads to various thermal cracks and braking failure. Convective heat transfer on the surfaces of brake discs is thus an important process that affects the performance of brake discs. There have been few studies on convective heat transfer on the surface of brake discs, and the models used in the reported investigations do not reasonably match the real working conditions of the brake discs. It is well known that the models determine the fluid flow, and the fluid flow determines the convective heat transfer. It is thus difficult to apply the reported results to the real design of brake discs. Against this background, the main contributions of the present paper are the establishing of a flow model reasonably matches the actual working conditions of brake discs and the measurement of local and average convection heat transfer characteristics. To establish the model, in the experimental process the brake discs were drawn by rolling wheels that rolled on a circular orbit. To obtain the convection heat transfer characteristics, the analogy of the naphthalene sublimation technique of heat/mass transfer is adopted. The local Nusselt number on the surface of a brake disc decreases along the radius because convective heat transfer is mainly enforced by fluid flow induced by the brake disc. Because of the weaker effect of the ground surface, the average Nusselt number for the surface of a break disc is larger than that of a rotating disk in cross flow at the same Reynolds number. The average Nusselt number for the surface of a brake disc is larger than that for a rolling wheel at the same Reynolds number. The correlations of the local and average Nusselt numbers with the Reynolds number are established.

Abstract:It is important to hold theoretical and engineering discussions on the analysis and optimization of the brake control method.First,we calculate the equivalent inertia,compensatory inertia,and drive current by using the model of differential equation respectively.Second,we propose the relative error analysis model of error appraisal of brake test bench.And we establish the computer control model of drive current value which changes with time.Finally,we give the optimization of the computer control method.The results show that we resolve the problem of control method of the brake test bench.

Abstract:Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part D: Journal of Automobile Engineering, Ahead of Print. The braking system of the vehicle is liable to fail due to the high temperature of frequent braking in the downhill road. This paper analyzes the influence of the main operating parameters of the vehicle on the maximum temperature of the brake disc surface. Firstly, the mechanical characteristics of the vehicle on the long downhill road are analysed, and the Finite Element Model of the brake disc/friction plate is established; Secondly, the effects of gradient, vehicle weight, brake speed threshold and brake pressure on the braking cycle and disc brake temperature field on long downhill roads are studied. The results show that when the gradient increases from 3° to 9°, the maximum temperature of the brake disc increases by 41.6%, while when the vehicle weight increases from 4 to 7 tons, the brake disc temperature only increases by 16.7%. For the braking speed threshold and braking force that the driver can control, selecting a smaller braking force and a lower braking speed threshold can better inhibit the temperature rise of the brake disc. Finally, the effectiveness of the simulation method is verified by the real vehicle test. It is found that the average measured temperature is 9.2%–11.8% lower than the simulated average temperature. It is considered that the modified temperature value can be obtained by reducing the maximum temperature of the simulation model by 5%–6%.

Design and Control of the Natural Frequency of Brake Discs in the Aspect of the Gray Cast Iron Production Process

Abstract:The results of research on the influence of the chemical composition of cast iron and its potential changes in the production cycle on the elastic properties and the correctness of numerical simulations of the natural frequency of ventilated brake discs are presented. The tests were carried out for three grades of gray cast iron with flake graphite with a eutectic saturation coefficient ranging from 0.88 to 1.01. A quantitative metallographic assessment of the pearlitic cast iron matrix and graphite precipitates was carried out, and the hardness and compressive/tensile strength of individual cast iron grades were determined, taking into account the limit contents of the alloying elements. Next, ultrasonic tests were performed, and the elastic properties of cast iron were determined. Based on the obtained data, a numerical modal analysis of brake discs was performed, the results of which were compared with the actual values of an FRF frequency analysis. The error of the computer simulations was estimated at approx. 1%, and it was found that the accuracy of the calculations of the first natural frequency did not depend on the dimensions (size) of the discs and the chemical composition of the cast iron from which they were cast. The functional relationships between the chemical composition of cast iron, its strength and elasticity and the first natural frequency of the disc vibrations were determined, and a database of the material parameters of the produced cast iron grades was developed. An implementation example showed the validation of the brake disc design with natural frequency prediction and demonstrated a high convergence of the experimental results with the simulated values. Using I-MR control cards, both the effectiveness of designing and predicting the natural vibrations of brake discs based on the implemented material database as well as the stability of the gray cast iron production and disc casting processes were confirmed.

Abstract:The thermal-structure order coupling method is used to analyze the tread-brake of the heavy-load wagon under long ramp braking, It′s found that frictional heat is mainly concentrated on the surface layer, the brake shoe′s temperature and stress increased firstly and then decreased .But the maximum stress appears before the maximum temperature appears .The re-sult of simulation accurately response to the transient temperature and stresses of the brake shoe in the whole process .It sup-plies the theoretical basis for the analysis of the service life and the fatigue life of the brake shoe.

Abstract:The friction contact state of the brake friction interface of high-speed trains in the braking process affects the braking efficiency, which in turn affects the braking safety and the service life of the components. This article focuses on the heat and stress distribution at the friction interface under the action of a floating brake pad structure. A floating brake pad structure comprising two sets of spherical joint structure is introduced. The multibody structure and rigid–flexible coupling effects of the floating brake pad are considered. Furthermore, a full reproduction flexible thermomechanical coupling braking model in the floating brake pad structure is constructed. The accuracy of the model is validated by conducting tests on a 1:1-scale high-speed train brake test bench. The temperature and stress distribution of the fixed/floating brake pad structure at 80 km/h are studied accordingly. The results show that in accordance with the temperature outcomes derived from the simulation model, the observed temperature variations in the test results demonstrate an average error of 8.93%. The action of the floating brake pad resulted in a significant reduction of 36.99% in the maximum surface temperature of the brake pad, as well as a reduction of 30.91% in the maximum stress. The temperature of the brake disk surface is decreased by 32.01%, while the maximum stress experienced a decrease of 30.65%. The contact area of the friction interface is increased by 100%. The floating brake pad demonstrates a more uniform distribution and consistent gradient of temperature and stress across its friction interface in comparison to the fixed brake pad.
