Abstract:Objective: To detect the expression of transferrin (TF) and MMP-9 in breast cancer and to investigate its significance in prognosis. Methods: The expression of TF and MMP-9 in 71 breast cancer specimens was detected by EnVision immunohistochemistry. Results: The positive expression rate of TF and MMP-9 was 43.7% and 42.3%, respectively. Kaplan-Meier survival curves showed that the 5-year survival rate of the patients with positive expression of TF and MMP-9 was lower than that of the patients with negative expression of TF and MMP-9(P<0.05). However, multivariate analysis showed that TNM-staging and lymph node metastasis were significant prognostic factors, and the expression of TF and MMP-9 were not independent prognostic factors (P>0.05). Conclusion: The positive rate of TF and MMP-9 expression was high in breast cancer tissues. TF and MMP-9 expression levels might be able to provide prognostic information.
