Abstract:The proliferation of digital cameras and the growing practice of online photo sharing using social media sites such as Flickr have resulted in huge volumes of geotagged photos available on the Web. Based on users' traveling preferences elicited from their travel experiences exposed on social media sites by sharing geotagged photos, we propose a new method for recommending tourist locations that are relevant to users i.e., personalization in the given context i.e., context awareness. We obtain user-specific travel preferences from his/her travel history in one city and use these to recommend tourist locations in another city. Our technique is illustrated on a sample of publicly available Flickr dataset containing photos taken in various cities of China. Results show that our context-aware personalized method is able to predict tourists' preferences in a new or unknown city more precisely and generate better recommendations compared to other state-of-the-art landmark recommendation methods.

Abstract:In recent years, million geo-tagged photos are available in online web service like Flickr, panoramio, etc. People contributing geo-tagged photo and share their travel experiences these media. The photo itself has important information sharing reveals like location, time, tags, title, and weather. We recommend the new method locations travel for tourists according their time and their preference. We get travel user preference according his/her past time in one city and recommendation another city. We examine our technique collect dataset from Flickr publically available and taken different cities of china. Experiment results show that our travel recommendation method according to tourist time capable to predict tourist location recommendation famous places or new places more precise and give better recommendation compare to state of art landmarks recommendation method and personalized travel method.

Abstract:The popularity of camera phones and photo sharing websites, e.g. Flickr and Panoramio, has led to huge volumes of community-contributed geotagged photos (CCGPs) available on the Internet, which could be regarded as digital footprints of photo takers. In this paper, we propose a method to recommend travel locations in a city for a user, based on topic distribution of his travel histories in other cities and the given context (i.e., season and weather). A topic model is used to mine the interest distribution of users, which is then exploited to build the user–user similarity model and make travel recommendations. The season and weather context information is considered during the mining and the recommendation processes. Our method is evaluated on a Flickr dataset, which contains photos taken in 11 cities of China. Experimental results show the effectiveness of the proposed method in terms of the precision of travel behavior prediction.

Abstract:Geo-tagged photos of users on social media sites (e.g., Flickr) provide plentiful location-based data. This data provide a wealth of information about user behaviours and their potential is increasing, as it becomes ever-more common for images to be associated with location information in the form of geo-tags. Recently, there is an increasing tendency to adopt the information from these geo-tagged photos for learning to recommend tourist locations. In this paper, we aim to propose a system to recommend interesting tourist locations and interesting tourist travel sequences (i.e., sequence of tourist locations) from a collection of geo-tagged photos. Proposed system is capable of understanding context (i.e., time, date, and weather), as well as taking into account the collective wisdom of people, to make tourist recommendations. We illustrate our technique on a sample of public Flickr data set. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed approach is able to generate better recommendations as compared to other state-of-the-art landmark based recommendation methods.

Abstract:The popularity of camera phones and photo sharing websites, e.g., Flickr and Panoramio, has led to huge volumes of community-contributed geotagged photos, which could be regarded as digital footprints of photo takers. Thus, mining geotagged photos for travel recommendation has become a hot topic. However, most existing work recommends travel locations based on the knowledge mined from photo logs (e.g., time, location), and largely ignores the knowledge implied in the photo contents. In this paper, we propose a geotagged photos mining-based personalised gender-aware travel location recommendation approach, which considers both photo logs and photo contents. Firstly, it uses an entropy-based mobility measure to classify geotagged photos into tour photos or non-tour photos. Secondly, it conducts gender recognition based on face detection from tour photos. Thirdly, it builds the gender-aware profile of travel locations and users. Finally, it recommends personalised travel locations considering both user gender and similarity. Our approach is evaluated on a dataset, which contains geotagged photos taken in eleven cities of China. Experimental results show that our approach has the potential to improve the performance of travel location recommendation.

Abstract:In the Web2. 0 era,with the popularity of smart phones,digital cameras and GPS navigation systems and other portable elec-tronic products widely available and the rapid development of social network,all kinds of UGC ( User Generated Content) are emerging by the social networking sites. Meanwhile,more and more tourists tend to share their travel seen and heard on the network with pictures or texts,and those social media data usually contain textual labels,spatial location ( in terms of latitude and longitude) ,taken time and other information,which provide truly reliable data. Therefore,the Geo-tagged photo from Flickr is used as data sources,applying the density-based clustering algorithm DBSCAN to cluster latitude and longitude of photos,and getting Points Of Interest ( POIs) in Xi’ an with TF-IDF algorithm. The travel recommendation is provided using improved collaborative filtering algorithm,which considers both user pref-erences and attributes of POI. The results show that it can improve the recommendation accuracy effectively. Finally the trust network for users is built to improve the trust and satisfaction of the recommendation system.

Abstract:User-generated travelogues have contributed abundant location representative information (e.g. attracting scenic spots, activities, and local customs), which can greatly facilitate people in trip planning and destination understanding applications. Existing work on location information extraction from user-generated travelogues has primarily focused on the contents, while in this work, we resolve both the contents and structures of travelogues, as well as investigating the interplay of the two. We propose a two-part framework to mine location representative knowledge from travelogues. The first part resolves travelogues in a geographic view. It discovers real location entities subordinated to travel destinations, then decomposes travelogues to acquire corresponding descriptions for each of these entities. Built upon the results of the first part, the second part performs content resolution in a semantic view. By extracting location characterizing concepts and the relatedness among them, it can form a representative concept network for each location entity. Based on a large collection of travelogues, the proposed framework is evaluated using both objective and subjective evaluation methods and shows promising results.

Abstract:In this paper, we propose a method: Context Rank, which utilizes the vast quantity of geo tagged photos in photo sharing website to recommend travel locations. To enhance the personalized recommendation performance, our method exploits different context information of photos, such as textual tags, geo tags, visual information, and user similarity. Context Rank first detects landmarks from photos' GPS locations, and estimates the popularity of each landmark. Within each landmark, representative photos and tags are extracted. Furthermore, Context Rank calculates the user similarity based on users' travel history. When a user's geo tagged photos are given, the landmark popularity, representative photos and tags, and the user similarity are used to predict the user preference of a landmark from different aspects. Finally a learning to rank algorithm is introduced to combine different preference predictions to give the final recommendation. Experiments performed on a dataset collected from Panoramio show that the Context Rank can obtain a better result than the state-of-the-art method.

Abstract:This paper proposed a method that fully exploits contextual information of geo-tagged web photos to recommend tourism attractions to a user according to his personal interest and current time and location. The proposed method first detects tourism attractions from geo-tags, and estimates their popularity with users' photo quantity. Photos' taken time is used to discover temporal fluctuation of attractions' popularity and distance of consecutive photos is exploited to model the spatial influence to user's travel behavior. Photos' textual and visual information are used to reveal users' personal interests. Collaborative filtering is also adopted in the recommendation process. With all these contextual information, our method predicts a user's preference to a certain attraction from different aspects, and automatically combines the prediction scores to give the final recommendation result with a learning to rank model. Experiments on Panoramio dataset show that our method performs better than the state-of-the-art method, especially for users with little traveling history.

Abstract:Traveling experience sharing has become pervasive. In this paper, we present a system which automatically generates a multimedia travelogue for mobile users. Multimedia travelogue shows user footprint with photos on the corresponding location on the map, which could offer the space distribution inner or between the locations. Meanwhile, location overviews with representative tags and images show comprehensive knowledge of the landmarks. The key challenges are: 1) when mapping footprint, some photos are without geo-tags; 2)user-contributed photos may be not clear and graceful; 3) to detect which landmark is actually on the photo to offer location overview. We solve these challenges by combining both geo-tags and tags to estimate the location. First we use the relationship of timestamp and geo-tag in the same trip group to estimate the footprints. Second we localize the landmark on the photo by tag match method which matching user tags with representative tags of the landmark. Experimental results on a Flickr image collection of nearly 2 million images of 6,581 users demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach.

Abstract:Trip planning is generally a very time-consuming task due to the complex trip requirements and the lack of convenient tools/systems to assist the planning. In this paper, we propose a travel path search system based on geo-tagged photos to facilitate tourists' trip planning, not only for where to visit but also how to visit. The large scale geo-tagged photos that are public ally available on the web make this system possible, as geo-tagged photos encode rich travel-related metadata and can be used to mine travel paths from previous tourists. In this work, about 20 million geo-tagged photos were crawled from Panoramio.com. Then a substantial number of travel paths are minded from the crawled geo-tagged photos. After that, a search system is built to index and search the paths, and the Sparse Chamfer Distance is proposed to measure the similarity of two paths. The search system supports various types of queries, including (1) a destination name, (2) a user-specified region on the map, (3) some user-preferred locations. Based on the search system, users can interact with the system by specifying a region or several interest points on the map to find paths. Extensive experiments show the effectiveness of the proposed framework.

Abstract:ABSTRACTTravel route planning is an important step for a tourist to prepare his/her trip. As a common scenario, a tourist usually asks the following questions when he/she is planning his/her trip in an unfamiliar place: 1) Are there any travel route suggestions for a one-day or three-day trip in Beijing? 2) What is the most popular travel path within the Forbidden City? To facilitate a tourist's trip planning, in this paper, we target at solving the problem of automatic travel route planning. We propose to leverage existing travel clues recovered from 20 million geo-tagged photos collected from www.panoramio.com to suggest customized travel route plans according to users' preferences. As the footprints of tourists at memorable destinations, the geo-tagged photos could be naturally used to discover the travel paths within a destination (attractions/landmarks) and travel routes between destinations. Based on the information discovered from geo-tagged photos, we can provide a customized trip plan for a tourist, i.e., the popular destinations to visit, the visiting order of destinations, the time arrangement in each destination, and the typical travel path within each destination. Users are also enabled to specify personal preference such as visiting location, visiting time/season, travel duration, and destination style in an interactive manner to guide the system. Owning to 20 million geo-tagged photos and 200,000 travelogues, an online system has been developed to help users plan travel routes for over 30,000 attractions/landmarks in more than 100 countries and territories. Experimental results show the intelligence and effectiveness of the proposed framework.

Abstract:In recent past, social networking has received great attention and millions of geo tagged photos are placed online on different social networks websites like flicker, Facebook and Instagram. According to this, people used to share their photos and share their travel experience over social media. However, photos themselves has a lot of hidden information to share like position, time etc. We presented a new technique related to location travel for tourist by looking on to their time and preference needs. We used to acquire its preference based on his or her past time in one city and based on this information recommend another city. We executed certain experiments to support our technique and acquire data-set from publically available flicker database. Simulation results have revealed that our travel recommendation system has been devised according to user needs and outperformed other previous travel and recommendation methods.

Abstract:Many modern tourists want to know about everyday life and spend time like a local in a new city. Current tools and guides typically provide them with lists of sights to see, which do not meet their needs. Manually building new tools for them would not scale. However, public geotagged social media data, like tweets and photos, have the potential to fill this gap, showing users an interesting and unique side of a place. Through three studies surrounding the design and construction of a social-media-powered Neighborhood Guides website, we show recommendations for building such a site. Our findings highlight an important aspect of social media: while it lacks the user base and consistency to directly reflect users' lives, it does reveal the idealized everyday life that so many visitors want to know about.

Abstract:Leveraging community-contributed data (e.g., blogs, GPS logs, and geo-tagged photos) for personalized recommendation is one of the active research problems since there are rich contexts and human activities in such explosively growing data. In this work, we focus on personalized travel recommendation and show promising applications by leveraging the freely available community-contributed photos. We propose to conduct personalized travel recommendation by further considering specific user profiles or attributes (e.g., gender, age, race) as well as travel group types (e.g., family, friends, couple). Instead of mining photo logs only, we exploit the automatically detected people attributes and travel group types in the photo contents. By information-theoretic measures, we demonstrate that such detected user profiles are informative and effective for travel recommendation—especially providing a promising aspect for personalization. We effectively mine the demographics of individual and group travelers for different locations (or landmarks) and their travel paths. A probabilistic Bayesian learning framework which further entails mobile recommendation on the spot is introduced as well. We experiment on more than 10 million photos collected from 19 major cities worldwide and conduct the extensive investigation of profiling activities in communities according to temporal and spatial information. Note that the photos in the paper attribute to various Flickr users under the Creative Commons License. The experiments confirm that people attributes of individuals and groups are promising and orthogonal to prior works using travel logs only and can further improve prior travel recommendation methods especially for difficult predictions by further leveraging user contexts via mobile devices.

Abstract:In this paper, we introduce a novel touristic trip suggestion system to facilitate the traveling of mobile users in a given city. Given the current user location and his touristic destination, our system can suggest a shortest trip path that visits as many popular landmarks as possible. To this end, we collect geographical tagged photos from Flickr [1] and Panoramio [2] photo sharing websites. Then a geographical graph is constructed by modeling photos as vertices and their geographical and visual closenesses as connection strengths. In this graph, we mine a dominant subgraph by quantizing nearby and visually duplicated vertices, and then trimming unpopular subgraphs. Such dominant subgraph only retains the popular landmarks from the consensus of travelers in this city. In online suggestion, we map the current user location and the target location to the nearest vertices in this subgraph, based on which an optimal trip is suggested through a shortest path search. We have quantitatively validated our system in typical areas including Beijing and New York City, with quantitative comparisons to alternative approaches.

Abstract:In this technical demonstration, we present a novel interactive trip planning system, i.e. Photo2Trip, by leveraging existing travel clues recovered from 20 million geo-tagged photos. Compared with the most common ways of trip planning, such as surveying travelogues and resorting to travel forums, Photo2Trip enables users to plan their trips in a more effective way. To meet users' diverse travel requirements, the system considers the following preferences: travel location (e.g. Beijing, Paris, or New York), travel duration (e.g. a two-day trip or a five-day trip), visiting time (e.g. summer, winter, March, or October), and travel style preference (e.g. prefer historic or prefer scenery sites). According to user requirements, Photo2Trip can automatically recommend popular travel routes among multiple destinations (attractions/ landmarks), and suggest typical internal paths within each destination. Moreover, users are allowed to interactively adjust the suggested plans by adding or removing destinations to get more customized travel routes from the system. Owning to 20 million geo-tagged photos and 200,000 travelogues, Photo2Trip is capable of supporting users plan travel routes for over 30,000 attractions/landmarks in more than 100 countries and territories.

Abstract:With millions of people traveling to unfamiliar cities to spend holidays, travel recommendation becomes necessary to assist tourists in planning their trips more efficiently. Serving as a prerequisite to travel recommender systems, understanding tourist behavior patterns is therefore of great importance. Recently, geo-tagged photos on social media platforms like Flickr have provided a rich data source that captures location histories of tourists and reflects their preferences. This article utilizes geo-tagged photos from Flickr to extract trajectories of tourists and then extends the concept of motifs from topological spaces, to temporal spaces and to semantic spaces, for detecting tourist mobility patterns. By representing trajectories in terms of three distinct types of travel motif and further using them to measure user similarity, typical tourist travel behavior patterns associated with distinct sightseeing tastes/preferences are identified and analyzed for tourism recommendation. Our empirical results confirm that the proposed analytical framework is effective to uncover meaningful tourist behavior patterns.
