Abstract:Asymmetric catalysis has been recognized as the most enabling strategy for accessing chiral molecules in enantioenriched forms. Catalytic asymmetric dearomatization is an emerging and dynamic research subject in asymmetric catalysis, which has received considerable attention in recent years. The direct transformations from readily available aromatic feedstocks to structurally diverse three-dimensional polycyclic molecules make catalytic asymmetric dearomatization reactions of broad interest for both organic synthesis and medicinal chemistry. However, the inherent difficulty for the disruption of aromaticity demands a large energy input during the dearomatization process, which might be incompatible with the conditions generally required by asymmetric catalysis. In this Outlook, we will discuss representative strategies and examples of catalytic asymmetric dearomatization reactions of various aromatic compounds and try to convince readers that by overcoming the above obstacles, catalytic asymmetric dearomatization reactions could advance chemical sciences in many respects.Recent advances in catalytic asymmetric dearomatization provide diverse polycyclic molecular scaffolds, novel mechanistic insights, and unprecedented disconnection strategies for total synthesis.This article has not yet been cited by other publications.

Abstract:Novel chiral aminophosphine phosphinite, DPAMPP was designed and synthesized from (1S,2R)-1,2-diphenyl-2-aminoethanol. Its cationic rhodium complex has been found to be an excellent catalyst for enantioselective hydrogenation of dehydroamino acids (more than 95.0%e.e.).

Abstract:In recent years, metal-catalysed asymmetric sequential double hydrofunctionalization of alkynes (ASDHA) has emerged as a powerful strategy to construct valuable chiral products in an atom- and pot-economic manner utilizing readily available feedstocks. In this feature article, recent progress made in this field will be overviewed. Attention will be given to the background, substrate scopes, applications, advances and mechanistic investigations of various asymmetric sequential double hydrofunctionalizations of alkynes.
Phenotypic and genetic relationships of residual feed intake with performance and ultrasound carcass traits in Brangus heifers.

Abstract:The objective of this study was to characterize residual feed intake (RFI) and to estimate phenotypic and genetic correlations with performance and ultrasound carcass traits in growing heifers. Four postweaning feed efficiency trials were conducted using 468 Brangus heifers. The complete Brangus pedigree file from Camp Cooley Ranch (Franklin, TX), which included 31,215 animals, was used to generate genetic parameter estimates. The heifer progeny from 223 dams were sired by 36 bulls, whereas the complete pedigree file contained 1,710 sires and 8,191 dams. Heifers were individually fed a roughage-based diet (ME = 1.98 Mcal/kg of DM) using Calan gate feeders for 70 d. Heifer BW was recorded weekly and ultrasound measures of 12th- to 13th-rib fat thickness (BF) and LM area (LMA) obtained at d 0 and 70. Residual feed intake (RFIp) was computed as actual minus predicted DMI, with predicted DMI determined by linear regression of DMI on mid-test BW(0.75) (MBW) and ADG with trial, trial x MBW, and trial x ADG as random effects. Overall means for ADG, DMI, and RFI were 1.01 (SD = 0.15), 9.51 (SD = 1.02), and 0.00 (SD = 0.71) kg/d, respectively. Stepwise regression analysis revealed that inclusion of gain in BF and final LMA into the base model increased the R(2) (0.578 vs. 0.534) and accounted for 9% of the variation in DMI not explained by MBW and ADG (RFIp). Residual feed intake and carcass-adjusted RFI (RFIc) were strongly correlated phenotypically and genetically with DMI and FCR, but not with ADG or MBW. Gain in BF was phenotypically correlated (P < 0.05) with RFIp (0.22), but not with FCR or RFIc; however, final BF was genetically correlated (P < 0.05) with RFIp (0.36) and RFIc (0.39). Gain in LMA was weakly phenotypically correlated with FCR, but not with RFIp or RFIc; however, gain in LMA was strongly genetically correlated with RFIp (0.55) and RFIc (0.77). The Spearman rank correlation between RFIp and RFIc was high (0.96). These results suggest that adjusting RFI for ultrasound carcass composition traits will facilitate selection phenotypically independent of growth, body size, and carcass composition; however, genetic relationships may still exist between RFI and carcass composition.

Abstract:The stereoselective synthesis of β-amino acids has attracted major attention among the synthetic community in recent years. This review provides an overview of the important advances in chiral β-amino acid synthesis over the past decade. It covers the development of enantioselective methods using transition-metal complexes or organocatalysts, mainly including catalytic asymmetric hydrogenation, the Mannich reaction, multicomponent reactions of diazo compounds, and conjugate addition. Abstract:Asymmetric multi‐catalysis, designed to mimic catalytic processes in nature, is a powerful instrument to fulfil fascinating transformations. As a result, this area of research has attracted considerable interests within chemistry communities. Although there are numerous reviews involving multi‐catalysis, reviews describing asymmetric organomulticatalysis remain rare. Taking into consideration that organocatalysts possess the superiorities of effortless availability, inexpensiveness, hypotoxicity, facile handling and hyposensitivity to moisture and oxygen, they have definite advantage in their own distinct modes of activation when utilized in multi‐catalytic reactions. Organomulticatalysis refers to the synthetic strategies of modular combination of organo‐catalyzed reactions into one synthetic operation with minimum workup or change in conditions. It is apparent that a variety reports utilizing the concept of enantioselective organomulticatalysis have substantially surfaced in the past few years. Hence, it is indispensable to succinctly present all such reports by means of disclosing the mechanistic analysis, as well as the challenges and issues associated in the development of the asymmetric catalytic system. Abstract:Asymmetric synthesis of functionalized nitrogen-containing compounds has been a hot topic. The condensation of amines with carbonyl compounds presents one of the most efficient ways to the synthesis of nitrogen-containing compounds, such as imines, enamines and α-amino ketones which applicate in many fields. This review summarizes the most significant concepts and advances in this field, focusing on desymmetrization or dynamic kinetic resolution, the de novo cycloaromatization and the Heyns rearrangement. Additionally, we expect our review to inspire the design of related structures or condensation reactions.

Abstract:Asymmetric organocatalysis has developed spectacularly over the last decades, and its general importance was recently highlighted by the 2021 Nobel Prize in Chemistry. This Perspective aims at providing a brief historical introduction to this field, as well as discussing selected advanced recent examples underscoring the diversity and potential of this still growing and vibrant field. Asymmetric organocatalysis has experienced a long and spectacular way since the early reports over a century ago by von Liebig, Knoevenagel and Bredig, showing that small (chiral) organic molecules can catalyze (asymmetric) reactions. This was followed by impressive first highly enantioselective reports in the second half of the last century, until the hype initiated in 2000 by the milestone publications of MacMillan and List, which finally culminated in the 2021 Nobel Prize in Chemistry. This short Perspective aims at providing a brief introduction to the field by first looking on the historical development and the more classical methods and concepts, followed by discussing selected advanced recent examples that opened new directions and diversity within this still growing field.

Abstract:Enantioenriched fluorinated α‐ and β‐amino acids are often encountered in numerous pharmaceuticals and bioactive molecules, and also of great importance as probes in PET and NMR for studying the behavior of enzymes and for incorporation into peptides and drug candidates. Among various synthetic strategies developed, catalytic enantioselective synthesis proves to be one of the most facile and powerful protocols to construct such privileged structures. The past decade has witnessed considerable progress in the catalytic enantioselective construction of chiral fluorinated α‐ and β‐amino acid derivatives with structural diversity. In this review, we summarize these impressive achievements according to the bond‐forming way of fluorinated α‐ or β‐amino acids, respectively, and underline the remaining challenges. This information would provide important guidance and some inspiration for the researchers engaged in organic fluorine and medicinal chemistry.
