Abstract:Full investigation of cyanation of aldehydes, ketones, aldimines and ketimines with trimethylsilyl cyanide (TMSCN) or ethyl cyanoformate (CNCOOEt) as the cyanide source has been accomplished by employing an in situ generated catalyst from cinchona alkaloid, tetraisopropyl titanate [Ti(OiPr)(4)] and an achiral modified biphenol. With TMSCN as the cyanide source, good to excellent results have been achieved for the Strecker reaction of N-Ts (Ts=p-toluenesulfonyl) aldimines and ketimines (up to >99% yield and >99% ee) as well as for the cyanation of ketones (up to 99% yield and 98% ee). By using CNCOOEt as the alternative cyanide source, cyanation of aldehyde was accomplished and various enantioenriched cyanohydrin carbonates were prepared in up to 99% yield and 96% ee. Noteworthy, CNCOOEt was successfully employed for the first time in the asymmetric Strecker reaction of aldimines and ketimines, affording various alpha-amino nitriles with excellent yields and ee values (up to >99% yield and >99% ee). The merits of current protocol involved facile availability of ligand components, operational simplicity and mild reaction conditions, which made it convenient to prepare synthetically important chiral cyanohydrins and alpha-amino nitriles. Furthermore, control experiments and NMR analyses were performed to shed light on the catalyst structure. It is indicated that all the hydroxyl groups in cinchona alkaloid and biphenol complex with Ti(IV), forming the catalyst with the structure of (biphenoxide)Ti(OR*)(OiPr). The absolute configuration adopted by biphenol 4 m in the catalyst was identified as S configuration according to the evidence from control experiments and NMR analyses. Moreover, the roles of the protonic additive (iPrOH) and the tertiary amine in the cinchona alkaloid were studied in detail, and the real cyanide reagent in the catalytic cycle was found to be hydrogen cyanide (HCN). Finally, two plausible catalytic cycles were proposed to elucidate the reaction mechanisms.

Abstract:In order to ameliorate the asymmetric inductivity and catalytic activity of the salen ligands with pyrrolidine diamine collar,Lewis acid and Lewis base group have been introduced at different positions of the salen unit.These new bifunctional N-oxide salen-Ti catalysts were successfully synthesized and applied to the catalytic asymmetric cyanosilylation of ketones in mild conditions.The products were obtained generally with moderate enantiomeric excesses and excellent yields.

Abstract:Ethyl and phenyl oxanilates were readily prepared from N-(2-bromobenzyl)anilines and oxalyl chloride monoethyl and monophenyl esters, respectively. It was found that the ethyl oxanilate survived in the presence of K2CO3 in DMA at 120 degrees C and underwent an intramolecular direct arylation using Pd(OAc)(2)-dppf, furnishing the 5,6-dihydrophenanthridine derivative. In contrast, the corresponding phenyl oxanilates decomposed upon exposure to K2CO3 in DMA at 120 degrees C and were transformed into N-arylisoindolin-1-ones via Pd(OAc)(2)-dppf-catalyzed intramolecular decarbonylative coupling. Except for the 4-methoxy-substituted oxanilic acid phenyl ester, other phenyl oxanilates possessing electron-withdrawing (NO2, Cl) and weak electron-donating (Me) substituents provided the N-arylisoindolin-1-ones in 43-80% yields.

Abstract:1-Ethyl-3-methylimidazolium acetate is introduced as a robust organocatalyst for solvent-free cyanosilylation of carbonyl compounds with trimethylsilyl cyanide (TMSCN). The catalyst loading can be reduced to as low as 0.1–0.0001 mol % under mild reaction conditions, giving considerably high TOF values from 10,843 h −1 to 10,602,410 h −1 in the field of organocatalyzed transformations. The present protocol not only tolerates with extensive carbonyl compounds but also provides somewhat insight into the mechanism of ionic liquids (ILs)-catalyzed reactions.

Abstract:The novel efficient procedure has been developed for the oxathioacetalization of carbonyl compounds and 2-mercaptoethanol using the novel carbon-based sulfonic acid as catalyst under solvent-free condition at room temperature. The results showed that the novel catalyst was very efficient for the reactions with good to excellent yields in short time. The novel catalyst owned many advantages such as operational simplicity, without need of any solvent, small amount of usage, low cost of the catalyst used, high yields, applicability to large-scale reactions, reusability and chemoselectivity over the traditional catalysts, which made the catalyst one of the best choices for the reactions.

Abstract:We report carbonyl-stabilized phosphorus ylides as general and efficient catalysts for the cyanosilylation of ketones. The N,N-diethylacetamide derived phosphorane is identified as an extremely efficient catalyst for the cyanosilylation of dialkyl ketones, alkyl aryl ketones, diaryl ketones, and α,β-unsaturated enones with catalyst loading down to 0.005 mol %, the lowest ever known for ketone cyanosilylation. Aldehydes, aldimines, and ketimines are also viable substrates. By NMR and React IR analysis, as well as electrical conductivity experiments, it is proposed that the phosphorane acts as a Lewis base in order to mediate the reaction via the desilylative nucleophilic activation of TMSCN.

Abstract:Herein, we report the first intramolecular C-N bond formation of phenylpropanamide derivatives via organocatalytic oxidative reactions, affording 3,3-disubstituted oxindole derivatives with up to 99% yield. The high efficiency of this reaction is exemplified by the transition metal-free mild conditions and the ability to perform the reaction on a gram scale. Meanwhile, the DFT calculation of the catalytic oxidative transformation pathway has also been studied.

Abstract:Phenols are versatile synthetic intermediates and key structural motifs in many natural products and biologically active compounds. We herein report a visible-light-induced aerobic oxidative hydroxylation of arylboronic acids/pinacol esters using air as oxidant and without using any catalysts and base, etc., additives, providing a green entry to a variety of phenols in a highly efficient and concise fashion. This novel reaction is enabled by photoactivation of an electron donor-acceptor complex, in which THF serves as both the solvent and electron donor. DFT studies indicated that the oxidation process involves a concerted hydrogen abstraction transfer from THF and dehydroxylation of boronic acid undergoing spin crossover from triplet to singlet to produce an active peroxoboronic acid intermidiate. Salient merits of this chemistry include broad substrate scope and excellent functional group tolerance, gram-scale synthesis, and versatile late-stage functionalizations as well as the use of air, visible light, and catalyst- and additive-free conditions. This strategy introduces a novel photoreaction mode with the aid of a solvent, offering a succinct and environmentally sustainable route for synthesizing phenols. The strong practicability and highly efficient access to modifying complex biorelevant molecules bode well for the potential applications of this chemistry in pharmaceutical chemistry.

Abstract:An efficient and convenient method for the synthesis of phenols and aliphatic alcohols is described in this paper. The oxidative hydroxylation reaction of various organoboron compounds proceeded smoothly by employing H2O2 as the oxidant and citric acid as the catalyst in water at room temperature to produce phenols and aliphatic alcohols in satisfactory to excellent yields (up to 99% yield). Various synthetically useful functional groups, such as halogen atom, cyano, and nitro groups, remain intact during the oxidative hydroxylation. The developed catalytic system also could accommodate phenylboronic pinacol ester and potassium phenyltrifluoroborate to give the target product good yields.

Abstract:Phenoxathiin and its derivatives have attracted a great deal of interest due to their unique chemical and physical properties and their applications in fluorescent materials, antifungal activities and selective inhibitors. In the presence of copper supported on manganese oxide-based octahedral molecular sieves OMS-2 (CuOx/OMS-2), the heterogeneously catalytic synthesis of phenoxathiinan derivatives via intramolecular arylations of phenols with aryl bromide or aryl chloride has been achieved. TEM and XRD have confirmed the CuOx/OMS-2 catalyst has been successfully reused 8 times without a significant decrease in the yield, with simple filtration and washing as a means of separation. Abstract:An efficient method for the direct preparation of high synthetic valuable α-hydroxycarbonyls is described. The simple and readily available I2 or NBS was used as catalyst. DMSO acts as the oxidant, oxygen source, and solvent. A diverse range of tertiary Csp(3)-H bonds as well as more challenging secondary Csp(3)-H bonds could be hydroxylated in this transformation. The reaction is mild, less toxic and easy to perform.

Abstract:By using supported gold-palladium alloyed nanoparticles in conjunction with a titanium silicate-1 (TS-1) catalyst, H2O2 can be generated in situ as needed, producing cyclohexanone oxime with >95% selectivity, comparable to the current industrial route. The ammoximation of several additional simple ketones is also demonstrated. Our approach eliminates the need to transport and store highly concentrated, stabilized H2O2 , potentially achieving substantial environmental and economic savings. This approach could form the basis of an alternative route to numerous chemical transformations that are currently dependent on a combination of preformed H2O2 and TS-1, while allowing for considerable process intensification.

Abstract:An efficient and operationally simple method for the synthesis of α-acyloxy ketones through the readily available 2-methylimidazole-promoted reaction of α-hydroxy ketones and anhydrides is developed. In the reaction, the anhydrides act as both a substrate and a solvent. The new method features good substrate tolerance, mild reaction conditions, readily accessible starting materials, and excellent yields, providing facile and green access to the targets. Importantly, the reaction also avoids the use of reagents with pungent odors, such as pyridine, in traditional esterification, which may promote the development of organocatalysis using nitrogen-containing heterocyclic compounds as catalysts.

Abstract:Diaryl ketones and his derivatives are biologically and medicinally very valuable compounds and have attracted the attention of many chemists. In this research project, we first synthesized the Fe 3 O 4 @DH/Ph-ImH-Phen-Pd(0) nanomaterial through a simple method and from the available materials, then we evaluated the application of its catalyst in the synthesis of diaryl ketones derivatives through the carbonylative Suzuki coupling reactions of arylboronic acids with aryl iodides and Cr(CO) 6 . The structure of the synthesized nanocatalyst was well confirmed by several identification methods such as FT-IR, SEM, TEM, EDX, TGA, VSM, XRD and ICP-OES; it should be noted that the stability of the recovered Fe 3 O 4 @DH/Ph-ImH-Phen-Pd(0) nanomaterial catalyst was also confirmed by VSM and ICP-OES techniques. The results confirmed well that Fe 3 O 4 @DH/Ph-ImH-Phen-Pd(0) nanomaterial nanocomposite is a highly efficient nanomagnetic catalyst because all diaryl ketone products were synthesized with high yields under mild conditions. Based on the recycling experiments, the Fe 3 O 4 @AMBA-BiPy-Pd(0) catalyst was simply separated from the reaction mixture with an external magnet and could be reused for 8 times without significantly reducing its efficiency.

Abstract:In the presence of the inexpensive and non-toxic stoichiometric reductant polymethylhydrosiloxane (PMHS), the chiral copper(II)-dipyridylphosphine catalyst displayed high efficiency in the stereoselective hydrosilylation of a wide scope of aryl alkyl and heteroaromatic ketones under an air atmosphere and mild conditions in good to excellent ees (up to 97%). With certain amounts of sodium tert-butoxide and tert-butyl alcohol as additives, the reaction on a 21-g substrate scale can be conveniently completed within a few hours even at a substrate-to-ligand (S/L) ratio of 50,000.

Abstract:The electrochemical oxidative dearomatizing methoxylation of phenols and naphthols was developed. It provides an alternative route for the preparation of methoxycyclohexadienones, important and versatile synthetic intermediates, that eliminates the need for stoichiometric high‐energy chemical oxidants and generates hydrogen as a sole by‐product. The reaction proceeds in a simple constant current mode, in an undivided cell, and it employs standardized instrumentation. A collection of methoxycyclohexadienones derived from various 2,4,6‐tri‐substituted phenols and 1‐substituted‐2‐naphthols was obtained in moderate to excellent yields. These include a complex derivative of estrone, as well as methoxylated dearomatized 1,1′‐bi‐2‐naphthols (BINOLs). The mechanism of the reaction was subject to profound investigations using density functional theory calculations. In particular, the reactivity of two key intermediates, phenoxyl radical and phenoxenium ion, was carefully examined. The obtained results shed light on the pathway leading to the desired product and rationalize experimentally observed selectivities regarding a side benzylic methoxylation and the preference for the functionalization at the para over the ortho position. They also uncover the structure‐selectivity relationship, inversely correlating the steric bulk of the substrate with its propensity to undergo the side‐reaction. Moreover, the loss of stereochemical information from enantiopure BINOL substrates during the reaction is rationalized by the computations.

Abstract:An efficient catalytic system for oxybromination of phenols under mild conditions has been developed, which utilizes sodium nitrite as the catalyst, dioxygen or air as the terminal oxidant, aqueous hydrobromic acid or molecular bromine as the bromine resource. From both the atom-economic and environmental points of view, the developed protocol is expected to provide a valuable synthetic method for practical applications in laboratory or industry.
