The signaling procedure is discussed in detail and the signaling time is tested experimentally and compared to hop by hop signaling protocols. The result shows that the new proposal has a better time performance than the traditional protocols.

Abstract:The implementation of call-connection separation across multiple domains is a key aspect of ASON control plane, and is the essential ability for UNI and ENNI to be key interfaces of the control plane too. The paper introduces the related standards of call-connection separation, describes the scheme, process and testing system structure of the realization of logical and complete separation of call-connection both, by the use of RSVP-TE protocol and based on UNI and ENNI signalling simulator.

Abstract:Underwater acoustic networks (UWANs) with autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) as mobile nodes have the potential to execute many tasks flexibly in the ocean, while the mobility of UWANs introduces many challenges to the design of network protocols. In this paper, a heterogeneous network with multiple routing protocols is investigated and implemented for the mobile UWANs. We conduct an experiment at Yellow Sea in Dalian, China for the UWANs with three AUVs to evaluate the acoustic network. The network performance is investigated in terms of packet delivery ratio (PDR) and network throughputs, which confirm the effectiveness of proposed network protocols.

Abstract:Cooperative vehicle infrastructure system (CVIS) is an essential part of the future intelligent transportation system (ITS). However, CVIS is uneasy to meet different QoS requirements of various information flows in the existing traffic environment. In fact, some real-time applications highly related to traffic safety early warning cannot be easily achieved or passengers' Internet accessing experience is always not very good. To overcome the above problem, this paper proposes a communication protocol named data networking for vehicle infrastructure cooperation (NDNVIC), which can respond to the vehicle's data query timely. In this paper, we utilize some ZigBee nodes as vehicle and RSU nodes and conduct several simulation experiments under a large-scale deployment with 150 RSU nodes to verify the effectiveness of NDNVIC. Compared with the traditional TCP/IP protocol, the response rate of NDNVIC is about four times, as fast as, that of TCP/IP.

Abstract:As a matter of fact, it causes a big challenge for proto- col design to consider the coexistence of sensors and actu- ators in Wireless Sensor/Actuator Networks (WSANs), es- pecially in automated architecture. This paper proposes a routing protocol, Vertex Matrix Routing (VMR), and de- signs an extensive simulation to explore the performance of VMR in automated architecture (AA) and semi-automated architecture (SAA). Some preliminary results are presented to demonstrate the difficulties in data collection with dis- tributed multi-actuators and the advantages of using AA.

Abstract:Underwater acoustic communications (UAC) features frequency-dependent signal attenuation, long propagation delay, and doubly-selective fading. Thus, the design of reliable and efficient UAC protocols is very challenging. On the other hand, cooperative relay communications, which can provide reliable data transmission, is a very attractive technology for UAC. In our recent work, we proposed a practical asynchronous relaying protocol tailored for UAC: Asynchronous Amplify-and-forward relaying with Precoded OFDM (AsAP). This protocol resolves both the time synchronization difficulty and the frequency-selective issue of UAC channels. However, the AsAP protocol adopts fixed amplification and uniform power allocation among the source and the relays, which limits the system performance. Thus, in this paper, we design a modified AsAP system with an instantaneous amplification scheme, and investigate the optimum power allocation based on the criteria of maximum average SNR at the destination. Assuming statistical channel state information (CSI) is available, we analyze the average SNR at the destination and perform the power optimization on the AsAP system. The analytical results suggest a selective relaying scheme, where only the relay with best average SNR forwards the source information. Therefore, we propose an AsAP protocol with selective relaying (SR-AsAP). Finally, the performance of the new SR-AsAP scheme is simulated, and the benefits are illustrated through comparison with the direct-link system and the AsAP protocol.
Study on a Novel Traffic Engineering Model for IP over ASON Network

Abstract:The major goal of TE (traffic engineering) is to facilitate efficient and reliable network operations while simultaneously optimizing network utilization and traffic performance. Therefore it is necessary to introduce TE mechanism to ISPs' (Internet Service Providers') networks with the purpose of improving network performance and reducing costs. In this paper, a novel TE mechanism based on GMPLS (Generalized Multi-Protocol Label Switching) [1] is proposed and analyzed in detail, and is demonstrated on a network with IP over ASON (automatically switched optical network) [2] architecture. The ASON layer acts as the server of IP layer which uses traditional IP protocols, and realizes TE mechanism through the method of dynamically changing bandwidth seen by IP layer through UNI (User-Network Interface). Simulation results have shown that the model has a superior operational agility to the conventional method and lower congestion probability in certain conditions.

Abstract:Vehicle-to-everything (V2X) communication is expected to support many promising applications in next-generation wireless networks. The recent development of integrated sensing and communications (ISAC) technology offers new opportunities to meet the stringent sensing and communication (S&C) requirements in V2X networks. However, considering the relatively small radar cross section (RCS) of the vehicles and the limited transmit power of the road site units (RSUs), the power of echoes may be too weak to achieve effective target detection and tracking. To handle this issue, we propose a novel sensing-assisted communication scheme by employing an intelligent Omni-surface (IOS) on the surface of the vehicle. First, a two-phase ISAC protocol, including the S&C phase and the communication-only phase, was presented to maximize the throughput by jointly optimizing the IOS phase shifts and the sensing duration. Then, we derive a closed-form expression of the achievable rate which achieves a good approximation. Furthermore, a sufficient and necessary condition for the existence of the S&C phase is derived to provide useful insights for practical system design. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed sensing-assisted communication scheme in achieving high throughput with low transmit power requirements.

Abstract:The specificity of underwater acoustic channel environment brings the new challenges, such as limited energy supply, high latency and node float mobility, on the development of routing protocols for underwater acoustic sensor networks. The new features require the routing protocols with low energy consumption, real-time and self-organization. But the existing routing protocols for underwater acoustic sensor networks only aimed at one or two of the above factors. In this paper, we propose a new Space-Time-Energy based forwarding protocol, called STE protocol, by integrating the position of the nodes, propagation delay, and energy consumption. Simulation results show that the STE protocol outperforms other routing protocols in terms of the success transmission rate and energy effectiveness. © 2010 IEEE.

Abstract:Hierarchical routing architecture has been adopted by ASON for scaling purpose, and corresponding changes in both network management structure and management information models result. Based on the discussion of new requirements for ASON management system to support the hierarchical routing infrastructure, an ASON management system is proposed and developed in this paper with new network management information models. Finally, the flexibility of the proposed management system is demonstrated on an ASON testbed with 200 emulated nodes.

Abstract:Our proposed information-diffusion-based routing (IDBR) is implemented on Tsinghua University's large-scale ASON test-bed. The procedure of IDBR is validated together with RSVP-TE signaling in the experiment. Results show that the IDBR is fast converged and has low bandwidth consumption.

Abstract:Aiming at poor self-adapting performance of Industry monitoring network (IMN) based on server/client mode, an intelligent IMN architecture realization method based on Universal plug and play (UPnP) was put forward. According to field distribution condition and running characteristics of industrial devices, topological IMN model centralized UPnP was established. Combining embedded system technology, monitoring information interaction mechanism was designed using signal communication method, and intelligent management for IMN was realized by the key data structures of Parameter configuration table (PCT) and Control device node (CDN). Industrial experiments prove that this method can realize the anticipated functions of seamless link, zero-configuration and self-recognition.

Abstract:Self-organizing network (SON) is considered as a driving technology for the deployment of next generation radio access networks. This paper addresses the problem of load balancing (LB) for multi-hop cellular network (MCN) with fixed relays such as LTE-A network in the context of SON. The designed SON algorithm, namely RSPC-RL, is based on two ideas: relay node reference signal power control (RSPC) and multi-agent reinforcement learning (RL). In the proposed RSPC-RL algorithm, the relay node is modeled as an agent that learns an optimal policy of reference signal power control from its interaction with environment to balance the load distribution of the network through dynamically changing its coverage area. Numerical results show the significant performance gain brought about by the proposed algorithm RSPC-RL.

Design and Simulation of Underwater Acoustic Communication Network Based on OPNET

Abstract:Acoustic communication network is the main solution for wireless information transmission of underwater applications, such as oceanographic data collection, offshore exploration and tactical surveillance, but its performance is degraded by the characteristics of underwater acoustic channel. Underwater acoustic communication network node models and layered protocols were designed and implemented using OPNET, which featured CDMA-based multiuser detection receiver and RTS-CTS-DATA-ACK exchange with network allocation vector (NAV) collision avoidance mechanism. An underwater acoustic communication network consisting of 1 master node and 5 sensor nodes was established and tested. Simulation results show that, by using multiuser receivers in the physical layer of the master node, the network can overcome collisions and reduce the number of retransmissions, therefore, larger throughput, shorter end-to-end delay and less energy consumption are achieved consequently.

Abstract:Dealing with network planning and algorithm testing for Ethernet over passive optical network(EPON),based on the protocol of IEEE802.3ah,a model of EPON was established by utilizing an open source network simulation software Network Simulator Version 2(NS2) and its performance analysis was conducted.The model realizes a series of network operations,including optical network unit(ONU) registration,transmission distance measurement,bandwidth assignment and quality of service(QoS),and provides an integrated simulation platform(EPONns) for EPON network planning as well as various algorithm testing.Registration process simulation showed the relationship between number of successfully registered ONUs and value of discovery window;load detection at optical line terminal(OLT) showed the state of EPONns under heavy load.

Abstract:Underwater Acoustic Sensor Network (UASN) is a promising technique by facilitating a wide range of aquatic applications. However, routing scheme in UASN is a challenging task because of the characteristics of the nodes mobility, interruption of link, and interference caused by other underwater acoustic systems such as marine mammals. In order to achieve reliable data delivery in UASN, in this work, we present a disjoint multipath disruption-tolerant routing protocol for UASN (ENMR), which incorporates the Hue, Saturation, and Value color space (HSV) model to establish routing paths to greedily forward data packets to sink nodes. ENMR applies the mechanism to maintain the network topology. Simulation results show that, compared with the classic underwater routing protocols named PVBF, ENMR can improve packet delivery ratio and reduce network latency while avoiding introducing additional energy consumption.
