Abstract:Objective:To explore the effect of comprehensive mental health education interventions on early identification of depression in floating workers in labor intensive enterprise, and to further spread to another similar factories in order to improve the level of floating-workers' mental health. Methods:Two factories in Shenzhen(A and B) was recruited as to be intervened and controlled factory respectively. Then cluster random sampling was used to recruit 2 groups in these 2 factories as intervention and control group respectively. The intervention group received comprehensive mental health intervention for 6 month, and the control group received normal management. The effects of intervention were evaluated with a self-made questionnaire for mental health education requirement, the Beck Depression Inventory(BDI),and through the qualitative interview before and after interventions.Per-protocol(PP) and intention-to-treat(ITT) analyses were used to evaluate the awareness of the key information on early identification of depression and the effect of interventions.Result:In per-protocol set,the awareness rate of the key information on early identification of depression in intervention group were increased after the intervention(83.5% vs.50.5%,P<0.01),while there was no significant change in the control group(32.8% vs.42.6%,P>0.05).There were no differences in the self-report depression positive rate between before and after intervention in both groups(intervention group,21.8% vs.13.8%;control group,31.9% vs.16.7%;Ps>0.05).In ITT set, there were no differences in the awareness rate of key information on early identification of depression(intervention group,46.8% vs.50.6%;control group,49.1% vs.47.1%;Ps>0.05) and the self-report depression positive rate(intervention group,25.4% vs.22.4%;control group,33.6% vs.29.8%;Ps>0.05) between before and after intervention in both groups. Conclusion:It suggests that the comprehensive mental health intervention could improve workers' awareness of the key information on early identification of depression and general mental health.
