Abstract:Objective To investigate the association between the clinical manifestations and characteristics and serious complications in severe preeclampsia (S-PE) in order to provide optimal routine monitoring and strategies for prevention and treatment of serious complications. Methods One hundred and ninety one cases of severe preeclampsia were enrolled in this study using prospective observational study. They were divided into two groups according to the onset of gestational age of S-PE,early onset of S-PE (onset ≤34 weeks) and late onset of S-PE (onset >34 weeks). The general clinical data and laboratory results were evaluated. The relations between the serious complications, clinical observations and maternal outcomes and perinatal mortality and morbidities were analyzed. Results There were no differences of serious complications between early onset and late onset of S-PE (P>0.05). Different clinical manifestations and characteristics were associated with different serious complications involved in different end target organ. The gestational age at delivery is closely associated with perinatal outcomes. Conclusions This study showed that perinatal outcomes can be improved by conservative management in early onset of severe preeclampsia and the gestational age at delivery is closely associated with perinatal outcomes. Closely monitoring plays a key role in the prevention and treatment of serious complications in S-PE.
