Abstract:In order to stimulate rational development and utilization for plant resources of Symplocos,and promote studies and landscape use of Symplocos in China.Based on the brief analysis of originated resources of Symplocos in China,the review of Symplocos research were summarized.The author also discussed the planting design of Symplocos species in landscapes.Symplocos resources and application had not been paid much attention in China.The potential of Symplocos used as urban landscaping plants should be developed,thus could benefit the diversity of landscape and garden plants.

Abstract:Amomum tsao-ko is an important condiment and medicinal plant.The plantation area and yield of Amomum tsao-ko in Yunnan province account for more than 90% in China.Through research on fundamental situations of Amomum tsao-ko plantation in Yunnan province,current status was analyzed and suggestions were made on the Amomum tsao-ko industry in Yunnan province.Suggestions are as follows.New cultivars should be screened and selected through evaluation of current cultivated species.Studies on pests and pathogens should be strengthened for control measures.Fruit-setting rate and yield should be further improved.Exploration should be made on new processing technology and safe "green" Amomum tsao-ko fruit production.Leading enterprises should be supported to increase the product-added value.Amomum tsao-ko fruits should be cultivated into a defined Yunnan name brand.
Investigation on Vegetable-Edible Flower Plant Resources and Anthophagy Culture in Yunnan Province

Abstract:In order to understand the state including categories of species,natural distribution,eating areas and cooking methods of flower vegetable-edible plants,local markets and the restaurants,and some local cosumers were surveyed in 102 counties and cities from 16 prefectures,Yunnan Province.At the same time,the botanical identification of the vegetable-edible flower plants was carried out.A total of 140 species of vegetable-edible flower plants,belonging to 52 families and 108 genera,including 82 species of woody plants and 58 herbaceous plants,76 species cultivated,14 domesticated,50 wild resources,were found in this investigation.There were 9 kinds of plants which were first reported as vegetable-edible flower plants in this article,such as Dregea sinensis Hemsl.、Crataegus scabrifolia (Franch.)Rehder、Primula pseudodenticulata Pax、Abelmoschus crinitus Wall.、Rhododendron caloplytum var.openshawianum (Rehd.et Wils.) Chamb.、Vallaris indecora (Baill.) Tsiang et P.T.Li、Cajanus grandiflorus (Benth.ex Baker)Maesen Vaniot der Maesen、Pueraria wallichii DC.、Clerodendrum fortunatum L.For the vegetable-edible flower plants,the natural distribution was not completely along with the edible area.Usually the plants were distributed in the edible area,but vegetable-edible flower plants were not necessarily edible in this area even though they were distributed here.The types of vegetable-edible flower plants decreased from south to north,which showed a certain relationship with the richness of the plants and the minorities in the areas.The types of vegetable-edible flower plants and the taste of its cooking were different while edible parts and cooking methods were also different,which reveal the anthophagy custom nationality.This paper put forward some suggestions on the development and utilization of wild vegetable-edible flower plants by analyzing the disappearing of traditional anthophagy culture.

Abstract:The endangered medicinal herb, Changium smyrnioides can only be found in deciduous forest gaps within the middle to northern subtropical broad-leaved evergreen forest zone of China. The considerable plasticity of its shoot and root structure helps it to capture light more effectively in winter and early spring, and to adapt to the soil moisture conditions in its narrow habitat. Another medicinal plant, Anthriscus sylvestris, is of similar economic importance but commonly distributed widely. In contrast to C. smyrnioides, it has low structural plasticity. It is also specialized to adapt to the moist and sunny environment, where habitat, such as the banks of creeks and rivers, is abundant.

Abstract:Southwestern China is a biodiversity hotspot due to its diverse topography and environment. Amorphophallus yunnanensis is a species of perennial herb that is mainly distributed throughout southwestern China. The genetic diversity and divergence in this species have not been assessed largely due to a lack of genomic resources. To help with the phylogeographic study, we sequenced and assembled the first complete chloroplast genome sequence of A. yunnanensis . The length of the chloroplast genome was 164,417 bp, with an average GC content of 36% (GenBank accession no. OR400247). The genome possessed a typical quadripartite structure, and the lengths of the large single-copy (LSC), small single-copy (SSC), and two inverted repeat (IR) regions were 92,149 bp, 15,182 bp, 28,543bp, and 28,543bp, respectively. A total of 128 genes were annotated across the genome, including 82 protein-coding genes, 8 rRNAs, and 38 tRNAs. The maximum likelihood (ML) phylogeny confirmed the phylogenetic position of Amorphophallus within Araceae, with the Amorphophallus species forming a single monophyletic clade with a high bootstrap value. The ML tree also indicated that A. yunnanensis was most closely related to A. coaetaneus . This newly sequenced chloroplast genome assembly will aid in future studies of genetic diversity, historical population dynamics, and geographic differentiation patterns of A. yunnanensis .
ISSR Analyses of Relative Relationships among Germplasm Resources of Amorphophallus Blume from Yunnan Province

Abstract:The ISSR analysis was conducted in the 30 germplasm resources in Amorphophallus.Among 65 random primers,11 were selected for amplification of the 30 genomic DNAs.Total 116 RAPD fragments were generated,102 of them were polymorphic marks.Every primer offered 10.55 marker bands on average.The molecular phylogenetic tree obtained by UPMGA method showed that Jaccard similarity coefficient of the 30 germplasm resources is quit high,over 0.65. Genetic diversity in Amorphophallus albus is richer than that of others,and it is close to Amorphophallus konjac.Amorphophallus dunnii is close to Amorphophallus konjac,while Amorphophallus krausei is close to Amorphophallus guripingensis.

Abstract:The genus Amorphophallus belongs to the family Araceae. Plants belonging to this genus are available worldwide and have been used in traditional medicines since ancient times, mainly in Ayurveda and Unani medical practices. Amorphophallus species are an abundant source of polyphenolic compounds; these are accountable for their pharmacological properties, such as their analgesic, neuroprotective, hepatoprotective, anti-inflammatory, anticonvulsant, antibacterial, antioxidant, anticancer, antiobesity, and immunomodulatory effects, as well as their ability to prevent gastrointestinal disturbance and reduce blood glucose. Moreover, Amorphophallus species contain numerous other classes of chemical compounds, such as alkaloids, steroids, fats and fixed oils, tannins, proteins, and carbohydrates, each of which contributes to the pharmacological effects for the treatment of acute rheumatism, tumors, lung swelling, asthma, vomiting, abdominal pain, and so on. Additionally, Amorphophallus species have been employed in numerous herbal formulations and pharmaceutical applications. There has been no extensive review conducted on the Amorphophallus genus as of yet, despite the fact that several experimental studies are being published regularly discussing these plants’ pharmacological properties. So, this review discusses in detail the pharmacological properties of Amorphophallus species. We also discuss phytochemical constituents in the Amorphophallus species and their ethnomedicinal uses and toxicological profiles.

Abstract:Based on the investigation of wild ornamental spermatophyte in Guangzhou,648 wild spermatophyte species were ornamental in Guangzhou,including 136 families and 393 genera.This paper evaluated their ornamental characteristics by AHP,and made suggestions that 109 species had high ornamental value which were devided into 4 types.The native plants such as colored leaves trees,ornamental fruit and flower plants,lianes,ground covers,sciophyte and honey plants had great potential in further exploitation and application in horticulture and Lunar New Year Flower market.Through full development,the human-arbor-shrub landscape harmonious development was promoted in deed.

Correlation Analysis of Cultivar Traits of Different Amorphophallus conjac in Yunnan Province

Abstract:Six cultivar’s productivities of Amorphophallus conjac were compared, which were planted in different ecological regions, the biological characters and yield characters of Amorphophallus conjac were compared in 4 ecological regions by using analysis of correlated and cluster. The results showed that seed tuber weight, the dry matter, and tuber height are associated with tuber weight; there are significant correlation (P<0.05) between content of Conjac glucomannan and content of dry matter, tuber diameter, tuber high; there are significant correlation (P<0.05) between content of dry matter and tuber weight, content of Amorphophallus conjac glucomannan, tuber diameter. Six cultivars of Amorphophallus conjac in Yunnan are divided to 3 groups, 2 cultivars from Fuyuan and Huize are belong to the first group, 2 cultivars from Zhaotong and No.15 are belong to the second group, and cultivar of Lijiang which has good traits is separately belongs to a group.
Comparative Studies on the Ecological Strategies of an Endangered Species Changium Smyrnioides and a Non-Endangered Species Anthriscus Sylvestris

Abstract:Changium smyrnioides Wolff, a monotypic species of family Umbellaceae, has a narrow distribution area and can found only in Yangtze River basin in China; the widespread Anthriscus sylvestris (L.) Hoffm can be found from temperate to subtropical zone in Asia, Europe and North America. Both species have fleshy roots, which are prized in Chinese medicine. Because of the land use, C. smyrnioides has now become an endangered species, while A. sylvestris do not endangered. Comparative studies on the ecological strategies based on the biological and ecological traits of the two species in present paper, aimed to find out the endangered mechanism of C. smyrnioides. Research was conducted at Hangzhou, Ningbo, Nanjing, Chuzhou and Anqing. The shoot of C. smyrnioides has only the basal leaf, which ensures it can capture light efficiently at ground level. The aboveground leaf area ratio (LAR_a) of C. smyrnioides was found to be higher than A. sylvestris, suggesting it can capture more light per unit of biomass. After spring time, C. smyrnioides loses its survival competitiveness as other herbaceous species can grow rapidly and impedes sunlight. C. smyrnioides is not a shade-tolerant species, that may explain why C. smyrnioides are typically found in small population under defoliated trees. Conversely, A. sylvestris can increase light absorption and out-compete other herbaceous by its distinct ability to expand densely and occupies extra horizontal and vertical space. In a word, C. smyrnioides is more effective in light capture and water acquisition than A. sylvestris, but the ecological strategy it with cause it specialized or overspecialized to the narrow environment, which were limited under the deciduous trees in subtropical evergreen broad-leaved forest zone in winter. As the human disturbance (digging for medicinal use and deforestation) becoming serious, C. smyrnioides becoming rare and an endangered plant.

Abstract:Ammopiptanthus,belonging to the first batch of rare and endangered species in China and is the only evergreen,broadleaf and super xerophytic shrub in the northwestern desert zone and is slightly distributed over the ethnic regions,namely,Sinkiang,Inner Mongolia and Ningxia.During the long adaptation process of severe natural environment,Ammopiptanthus has evolved the characteristics of drought-resistance,frigid-resistance and anti-wind erosion,etc.,whose genome contains abundant anti-stress genes.Ammopiptanthus has important ecological,economical and scientific value.Finally,the biological characters,values and conservation biology as well as anti-stress genes exploiting in Ammopiptanthus were summarized.
Ethnobotanical Study on Medicinal Market During the Double Ninth Festival in Yangchun City, West Guangdong

Abstract:This paper presents the result of a preliminary investigation on medicinal market during the Double Ninth Fes-tival in Yangchun, a tropical city in West Guangdong, China. Based on the approaches of ethnobotany and taxonomy, the medicinal market of the Double Ninth Festival in Yangchun was investigated during 2013-2014 comprehensively. The results showed that Yangchun was an area with rich plant diversity, there were more than 1 580 species wild vascular plants in this area, which belonged to 210 families and 754 genera, most of them had medicinal values. The medicinal plants collected and sold in the medicinal market of the Double Ninth Festival by local people were diverse. More than 134 species of medicinal plants were investigated and recorded, which belong to 60 families and 117 genera. An invento-ry of medicinal plants which sold in the medicinal market on the Double Ninth Festival in Yangchun was documented in the present paper, including local name, scientific name, part used, application and prepared methods. The number of families containing more than five species was seven, including Euphorbiaceae ( 11 species), Papilionaceae ( 10 species), Asteraceae(10 species), Rubiaceae(9 species), Verbenaceae(6 species), Zingiberaceae(5 species), Menispermaceae(5 species). Most medicinal plants belong to various different families, instead of concentrating in a few families. In addition, medicinal plants resources, culture background, character of prepared methods and regional char-acter of medicinal market were analyzed. The medicinal plants used for health-care were widely used in the daily life of the people in Yangchun, such as Amomum villosum, Rhamnus crenata, Morinda officinalis, Millettia speciose, Flemingia philippinensis, Gynostemma pentaphyllum, Rhodomyrtus tomentosa, Rosa laevigata and so on. The medicinal use of me-dicinal plants were closely related with Yangchun’ s natural environment, mostly for diseases which caused by hot and humid climate and mosquito and snake bite. Finally, suggestions for development of medicinal market were also proposed in the paper, more multi-discipline studies should be carried out on medicinal plants with potential values, which may play an important role in more extensive application range.

Abstract:The genus Amorphophallus Blume ex Decne. is a vast and widespread group of aroids belonging to Araceae which is taxonomically and botanically distinct due to the occasional emergence of inflorescences and their relatively short active period of existence. Seven morphotypes of Amorphophallus paeoniifolius which included two cultivated forms—the cultivated elephant foot yam (A. paeoniifolius var. campanulatus) and another cultivar ‘Karunaikizhangu’, unique due to the presence of small corm and numerous elongate cormels, grown only in Tamil Nadu, in the southmost part of India, also known as A. paeoniifolius var. campanulatus, and five wild types belonging to Amorphophallus paeoniifolius var. paeoniifolius were studied. Elephant foot yam is an important tuber crop and the wild congenerics of the cultivated form possess powerful therapeutic action against piles and gastro-intestinal disorders. Variation in the surface pattern of petiole and spathe is the main difference found within the species. The shape of appendix, the colour and pattern of spathe, scale leaves (bract) subtending the spathe, the male zone, female zone, the pollen morphology as assessed by SEM and pollen fertility showed distinct variation within the species revealing six distinct morphotypes. The inflorescence/floral markers and vegetative morphological descriptors, pollen morphology, karyomorphological analysis which indicated structural variation in chromosomes resulting in varying number of median, sub-median and nearly sub-median chromosomes in the morphotypes and ISSR markers indicated clear distinction between the morphotypes, which lead to the conclusion that the above two cultivated types and accession P19 of A. paeoniifolius var. paeoniifolius, which had heteromorphic pollen can be considered as different botanical varieties.

Comparison of Excellent Amorphophallus Conjac Cultivars in Yunnan

Abstract:Fourteen cultivars of Amorphophsllus Conjac as materials were collected from Yunnan different region. The incidence, yield and dry content were inspected. The results showed that the varieties of Lijianghuabaimoyu and Fuyuanhuamoyu (CK) had good comprehensive characters, and the output is higher than others, the synthesis performance is better. The production of Luopinghuamoyu, Mohua No.15 and Mohua No.38 are relatively lower, but they have the strong disease resistance, especially the disease resistance of Mohua No.15 is stronger. It can be nurtured as disease-resistant cultivar.

Abstract:Amomum tsaoko is a perennial herb belonging to Zingiberaceae. Its dried ripe fruit is an important food additive, spice and materia medicai in Southeast Asia. For hundreds of years of cultivation, morphological variations have existed. The essential oil is one of the major active products of the A. tsaoko fruit and seed. In this study, we collected 12 populations in Yunnan province, and the correlation analysis of compounds was focused on the essential oil of A. tsaoko seed and its fruit morphological characteristics, geographical conditions, and locality of growth. The results showed that the difference in morphological characteristics between populations is greater than the difference within the population. High altitude areas are beneficial for biomass accumulation. Another interesting finding is that selecting specific functional or odor type materials could reference the morphologies of A. tsaoko fruit and seed. Furthermore, the qualitative and quantitative analysis of compounds in essential oil could be used to distinguish the producing area of the A. tsaoko fruit. These results are crucial in realizing the determination of botanical origin and evaluating the quality of A. tsaoko fruit. Meanwhile, it makes clear that various other studies on this plant deserve more attention.

Abstract:RP-HPLC method was used to study the yearly dynamic variation of anthraquinones contents in Polygonum multiflorum collected by its growth time in Qinghai,and deciding optimum harvesting time.Meanwhile,it can offer scientific foundation.The results showed that the total contents of anthraquinones in eight-year-old Polygonum multiflorum cultivated in Qinghai were the highest.The Polygonum multiflorum cultivated in Qinghai could take place of the wild one as useful medical plant,and the time for which a cultivated Polygonum multiflorum had grown could be Preliminarily determinated by the contents of anthraquinones.
Habitat ecological characteristics and soil fungal community structure of Paphiopedilum subgenus Brachypetalum Hallier (Orchidaceae) plants in Southwest China

Abstract:Species of the subgenus Brachypetalum are the most primitive, most ornamental and most threatened group in the Orchid. This study revealed the ecological characteristics, soil nutrient characteristics and soil fungal community structure of habitats of the subgenus Brachypetalum in Southwest China. Lays a foundation for research on the wild populations and conservation Brachypetalum. The results showed that species of the subgenus Brachypetalum preferred a cool and humid environment, grew in scattered or aggregated form in narrow negative terrain, mainly in humic soil. The soil physical and chemical properties and soil enzyme activity indexes of the habitats were significantly different among different species, and the soil properties of different distribution points of the same species also varied greatly. There were significant differences in the soil fungal community structure among the habitats of different species. Basidiomycetes and ascomycetes were the main fungi in habitats of subgenus Brachypetalum species, and their relative abundance varied among different species. The functional groups of soil fungi were mainly symbiotic fungi and saprophytic fungi. LEfSe analysis found that there were different numbers and species of biomarkers in the habitats of subgenus Brachypetalum species, indicating that the habitat preference characteristics of each species in subgenus Brachypetalum were reflected in the fungal community. It was found that environmental factors had an impact on the changes in soil fungal communities in the habitats of subgenus Brachypetalum species, with climatic factors having the highest explanation rate (20.96%). Soil properties were significantly positively or negatively correlated with a variety of dominant soil fungal groups. Conclusions: The results of this study lay the foundation for the study of the habitat characteristics of wild populations of subgenus Brachypetalum and provides data to support in situ and ex situ conservation in the future.

The Study Condition and Prospect of Amrophophallus in Yunnan
