Abstract:This paper describes a strategy of size controlled synthesis of silver nanoparticles by a modified polyamide hyperbranched polymer( PNP). The mechanism of this process was proposed, and the antibacterial property of prepared silver nanoparticles aqueous solution was studied. Then the PNP was utilized to in situ fabricate silver nanoparticles in cotton fabric for its antibacterial finishing. The results indicated that amino groups in the PNP act as an important role during the synthesis of silver nanoparticles which can entrap silver ions and reduce them to generate silver nanoparticles under the control of molecular network structure of PNP. The silver nanoparticles with average size at 13. 23,4. 34 and2. 66 nm were synthesized by adjustig the molar ratio between silver ions and amino groups of PNP. The minimum inhibitory concentration( MIC) of the prepared silver nanoparticles aqueous solution was2 mg / L. The silver nanoparticles in situ generation treated cotton fabrics have excellent antibacterial activities and laundering durability. The bacterial reduction rates of the treated cotton fabrics against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli both reached above 99%.
