Abstract:Image segmentation is a key technology in image processing, and threshold segmentation is one of the methods used frequently. Aimed at that only one threshold or several thresholds are set in traditional threshold-based segmentation algorithm, it is difficult to extract the complex information in an image, a new segmentation algorithm that each pixel in the image has its own threshold is proposed. In this algorithm, the threshold of a pixel in an image is estimated by calculating the mean of the grayscale values of its neighbor pixels, and the square variance of the grayscale values of the neighbor pixels are also calculated as an additional judge condition, so that the result of the proposed algorithm is the edge of the image. In fact the proposed algorithm is equal to an edge detector in image processing. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm could produce precise image edge, while it is reasonable to estimate the threshold of a pixel through the statistical information of its neighbor pixels.

This paper enumerates and reviews main image segmentation algorithms, then presents basic evaluation methods for them, and finally discusses the prospect of image segmentation. Some valuable characteristics of image segmentation come out based on a large number of comparative experiments.

Abstract:Image segmentation techniques are always difficult and are the key point of image processing. Currently, many image segmentation algorithms are springing up, but there are no universal methods. Firstly, this paper analyses basic theory and advantages and disadvantages of traditional methods in the field of image segmentation, including threshold methods, edge detection methods, and region segmentation methods. Secondly, based on the evolution of traditional methods and new methods, which include the gene method, the research status of image segmentation algorithms in recent years is combined systematically and commented. Finally, the development trends and the difficulty of image segmentation are pointed out and, importantly, one new idea which is of significance is put forward.

Abstract:Image segmentation is an old and difficult problem in digital image processing.The segmentation quality is directly connected to the image processing follow-up.Therefore in the theoretical study and practical application it attracts researchers' extensive attention.In this paper,the current study uses several methods of segmentation,including thresholding segmentation,LOG algorithms segmentation,FCM clustering segmentation,and watershed segmentation.CT images are combined with image segmentation.This paper describes a variety of concepts and principles of segmentation.And the segmentation results are analyzed and discussed.Then it obtains the strengths and weaknesses of various methods and the direction of the main application.Follow-up study of these experimental results will provide a better scientific basis.

Abstract:The single arithmetic ot color image segmentation inevitably has some deficiencies and defects, and we can combine different algorithms according to the actual situation or have a hierarchical division of image segmentation. This paper suggests a hybrid intelligent color image segmentation method. Region growing is used to finish initial segmentation, the final segmentation images is realized by MST method which looks every region produced by region growing as a node, and an particle swarm optimization is used to get the best thresholding of MST. Region growing focuses on local variations of an image with fast speed while MST can extract the global property of an image, and particle swarm optimization can improve the algorithm speed. The method presented in this paper combines their advantages. Experiment results show that the new method has good effectiveness and efficiency. ©2008 IEEE.

Abstract:Mathematical morphology is very attractive for automatic image segmentation because it efficiently deals with geometrical descriptions such as size, area, shape, or connectivity that can be considered as segmentation-oriented features. This paper presents an image-segmentation system based on some well-known strategies. The segmentation process is divided into three basic steps, namely: simplification, marker extraction, and boundary decision. Simplification, which makes use of area morphology, removes unnecessary information from the image to make it easy to segment. Marker extraction identifies the presence of homogeneous regions. A new marker-extraction design is proposed in this paper. It is based on both luminance and color information. The goal of boundary decision is to precisely locate the boundary of regions detected by the marker extraction. This decision is based on a region-growing algorithm which is a modified watershed algorithm. A new color distance is also defined for this algorithm. In both marker extraction and boundary decision, color measurement is used to replace grayscale measurement and ${\rm L}^{\ast}{\rm a}^{\ast}{\rm b}^{\ast}$ color space is used to replace the more straightforward spaces such as the RGB color space and YUV color space.

Abstract:This paper addresses the issue of image segmentation. Image segmentation process is the main basic process or technique used in various image processing problem domains, for example, content based image retrieval; pattern recognition; object recognition; face recognition; medical image processing; fault detection in product industries; etc. Scope of improvement exists in the following areas: Image partitioning; color based feature; texture based feature, searching mechanism for similarity; cluster formation logic; pixel connectivity criterion; intelligent decision making for clustering; processing time; etc. This paper presents the image segmentation mechanism which addresses few of the identified areas where the scope of contribution exists. Presented work basically deals with the development of the mechanism which is divided into three parts first part focuses on the color based image segmentation using k-means clustering methodology. Second part deals with region properties based segmentation. Later, deals with the boundary based segmentation. In all these three approaches, finally the Steiner tree is created to identify the class of the region. For this purpose the Euclidean distance is used. Abstract:The block-division based segmentation algorithm is raised in this paper, which overcomes the shortcomings of the whole and single threshold method. Each block is processed with two-value segmentation algorithm, and finally, all blocks are combined for image recovery. In order to evaluate the performance of block-division based segmentation algorithms, some experiments are carried out by using Matlab 7.0. Experimental results show that block-division based segmentation algorithms can perform well and get a better result than the other threshold segmentation algorithms.

Abstract:Image segmentation is the key step for image processing to image analysis. In order to deal with the difficulties in automatic selection and the vast computation of multi- threshold image segmentation，a multi-threshold segmentation algorithm based on Ant Colony is proposed. Compared with traditional multi-threshold segmentation algorithm, the proposed algorithm has better segmentation result and decreases the computation greatly. The experimental results demonstrate that the algorithm given in this paper can cope with multil-threshold image segmentation efficiently and rapidly.

Abstract:Although there are varieties of image segmentation algorithms,no one is applicable to all images.In order that the image tracking system can select segmentation algorithm itself according to the object image feature,this paper presents an intelligent decision method of image segmentation.Firstly,some representative segmentation algorithms are selected to form an algorithm library,using which various sample images are segmented;Secondly,decision information table is builtup based on diversified numerical features extracted from the sample images and the optimal segmentation algorithm of each sample image judged according to segmentation quality evaluation criterion;Finally,rough set theory is applied to discretization and attribution reduction of decision information table,in order to make the decision rule of image segmentation algorithm selection.The decision method solves a series of problems for segmentation algorithm selection in image tracking system.As experiment shows,it can effectively pick out the optimal segmentation algorithm from algorithm library according to the feature of the processed image,and also satisfy the real-time demand of image tracking system on vehicle.

Abstract:Segmentation has been a rooted area of research having diverse dimensions. The roots of image segmentation and its associated techniques have supported computer vision, pattern recognition, image processing, and it holds variegated applications in crucial domains. To compile the vast literature on machine learning and deep learning-based segmentation techniques and proffer statistical, comprehensive, semi-automated, and application-specific analysis, which could contribute to the ongoing research. 16,674 studies have been filtered out from the pool of 22,088 studies collocated by executing a search string on the Scopus database. These studies are analyzed for their meta-data, comprehensive content and reviewed to identify key research areas using the topic modeling-based method (LDA). Also, the segmentation role for mathematical expression recognition has been fathomed out. IEEE is a ubiquitous name in the terms of the renowned publisher, reputed journal (IEEE Access), and most cited affiliation (#10,472). Three out of five extracted topic solutions by the LDA model be evidence of streaming research areas in image segmentation. Medical Image Processing, Machine Vision and Object Identification are the accentuated domains in the context. The streamlining of comprehensive analysis puts forth neural network-based approaches as a trend. Inquisition of segmentation techniques for mathematical expressions articulate neural-based segmentation techniques (CNN, RNN, LSTM) as preeminent segmentation techniques and geometrical features as focused features of the process. To sum up, the purpose of the current study is to summarize the best available research on image segmentation after synthesizing the results of an assorted set of studies.

Abstract:One algorithm,isoperimetric algorithm based on graph theory is applied and researched on image segmentation.Firstly,isoperimetric algorithm is applied in still image segmentation,and the result is compared with two methods based on edge detection and region detection.Then,isoperimetric algorithm is used to segment image video by combined with operation of morphology.Based on several experiments,they are researched.The results show that isoperimetric algorithm can be applied in both still image and image video.Isoperimetric algorithm does well in image segmentation,and it is a fast graph partitioning method.And a good result can be gotten in low contrast image by combined with morphologic operation.

Abstract:Abstract With the continuous development of computer vision technology, image segmentation technology and edge detection technology are becoming more and more mature. Firstly, this paper simulates the fixed threshold method and adaptive threshold method in image segmentation, and concludes that the fixed threshold method is applicable to images with obvious targets and backgrounds, and the adaptive threshold method is applicable to images with uneven distribution of light and dark, and secondly, the comparative experiment and result evaluation of edge detection of images by Sobel operator and Canny operator are used to conclude that the Sobel algorithm is more accurate in positioning edges, while Canny algorithm image edge information is more continuous and single edge response is better. Its edge detection is also better.
