Analysis of Depression in Rheumatoid Arthritis Patients from Guiyang Citizens

Abstract:Objective To investigate the depression incidence in rheumatoid arthritis(RA) patients from Guiyang citizens,and to explore the correlation of depression with quality of life(QOL) and disease activity of RA.Methods The RA outpatients and inpatients from the Second Affiliated Hospital of Guiyang College of TCM were enrolled into the investigation.Observation sheets for RA clinical stuty,Zung's Self-rating Depression Scale(SDS) and QOL questionnaire were used for the study.Results In 258 RA patients,70.16% patients had depression,34.50% had mild depression,27.52% had midrange depression,and 8.14% had severe depression.The SDS score had no correlation with sex,age and the course of disease in RA patients(P0.05).SDS score was positively correlated with total QOL score,and the scores of physical function,psychological function,social functions,and self-recognized health status.And the correlation coefficient was 0.630,0.387,0.615,0.504,0.478,respectively.SDS score was also correlated with disease activity score in 28 joints(DAS28),C-reactive protein(CRP) level and erythrocyte sedimentation rate(ESR),but had no correlation with platelet count.Conclusion RA patients from Guiyang citizens have higher incidence of depression,and the incidence of depression is correlated with QOL,in particular with psychological function,but has no correlation with disease activity of RA.
