Abstract:Objective To investigate AIDS-related knowledge and attitude on HIV/AIDS among middle school students in Beijing suburb area and to provide scientific information for improving AIDS-related health education.Methods Through non-probability sampling,400 middle school students in Shunyi district of Beijing were inquired with self-administered questionnaire to collect information about AIDS-related knowledge and attitude.Results The rate of HIV/AIDS knowledge among middle school students was 69.00%.The knowing rate of transmission routes of AIDS was above 93%.46.75% of them said that they would not discriminate HIV/AIDS sufferers.The identical rate of being infected through close contact (learning together.) was relatively low.Conclusion Education on anti-discrimination of AIDS and physiological health education among middle school students should be strengthened in order to prevent the target population being infected by AIDS.

Abstract:Objective To analyze the knowledge and attitude to acquired immunodeficiency syndrome(AIDS) among urban high school students in China in order to provide a basis for AIDS related health education in the future.Method An anonymous questionnaire survey was conducted among 109 754 urban high school students selected by using multi-stage stratified cluster sampling method in 18 provinces of China.Results Of 109 754 urban high school students,55.3% had ever been taught in schools about AIDS or HIV infection;79.0% knew that HIV was the pathogen of AIDS.68.6% disagreed with separating their HIV infected classmates,and 66.0% stated that they would continue to contact their HIV infected friends as before.Coverage of health education for AIDS prevention was different among different provinces.The percentage of having been taught in school about AIDS or HIV infection,and anti-discrimination against people living with HIV/AIDS was lower in occupational school students than in elite school students or ordinary school students(P0.01).Students living in developed cities or districts were more likely to state anti-discrimination attitude as compared with those living in developing cities or districts(P0.01).Conclusion Distribution of resources for AIDS related health education was uneven in China.The coverage of HIV and AIDS education in North China was insufficient,and AIDS related health education should also be strengthened among occupational school students.

Abstract:Objective To provide theoretical foundation for health education on AIDS among migrant workers in city. Methods 4415 migrant workers completed a self-administered anonymous questionnaire on AIDS knowledge, attitude and behavior in Hangzhou.Results WTBZData analysis revealed that 92.6% of this population said that they heard of AIDS. As a group they displayed a high level of knowledge about modes of AIDS transmission. Nevertheless, 51.9% of migrant workers didn't know that condom could prevent from AIDS. Moreover, majority of respondents didn't think that people with AIDS could marry and conceive offspring , 6.5% of migrant workers said that their fellow workers ever had contact with sex women. The results of the logistic regression models showed that education level, sex and monthly wages had an important effect on knowledge of AIDS among migrant workers.Conclusion Migrant workers had some knowledge about AIDS, but still misunderstand in some aspects of awareness. Low education level , male and low income migrant workers in city would become the crucial group in health education of AIDS in the future .

Abstract:Objective To evaluate the knowledge about and attitudes toward AIDS prevention in university students inBeijing.Methods Four hundred students from three universities in Beijing were surveyed using self-administered questionnaireanonymously in April and May of 2000.Results More than 80% of students knew the routes of HIV transmission.But only63.7% of students knew that HIV could not be transmitted by using public toilet.17.9% of students said that they would bewilling to be in the same classroom with a student with HIV infection;52.8% were indifferent to being in the same classroomwith a student with HIV infection.58.7% of students objected to the premarital sexual intercourse in university students,andthe percentage of female students who had this opinion was significantly higher than that of male students.Conclusion Univer-sity students' knowledge on AIDS is insufficient.School-based education in HIV/AIDS/STD prevention should be improved,and more attention should be paid to the education in no discrimination against people with HIV infection.
Study on AIDS /HIV Knowledge, Attitude and Behavior among Senior High Students of Three Coastal Cities in China

Abstract:【Objective】To know the knowledge,attitudes and behavior status of AIDS/HIV among senior high school students in three coastal cities(Shanghai,Sanming,and Beihai). 【Methods】2 693,3 023 and 2 594 senior high students were randomly selected from Shanghai,Sanming and Beihai city respectively.Self-administrated HIV/AIDS related questionnaires were carried out and taken back right after done. 【Results】There was a significant difference in related knowledge(P0.01),Beihai students scored the highest,while Sanming students scored the lowest.Boys scored higher than girls.Beihai students showed more conserve in sex affairs,while Sanming students showed more sympathy towards people living with HIV.The ratio of their school health education in Shanghai,Sanming and Beihai were 51.0%,52.7% and 68.0% respectively.Students who had the experience scored higher than those who had not on related knowledge and attitudes towards HIV/AJIDS(P0.001).Sexual behaviors were found hyperactively in Beihai students,including kissing,embracing,petting and intercourse.The sex intercourse ratios in Shanghai,Sanming and Beihai were 3.2%,3.6% and 4.1% respectively. 【Conclusion】It is time to implement structural HIV intervention program for senior high school students in coastal cities.
Current Situation of the Students' Knowledge,attitude,life Skill and Behavior Regarding AIDS in Tongzhou District in Beijing

Abstract:ObjectiveTo understand the knowledge,attitude and the life skills about AIDS prevention,and investigate effective to implement education of the AIDS prevention for students.MethodsQuestionnaire survey was carried out in 1 456 junior middle school students and 2 488 senior school students from 8 schools in Tongzhou between May and October in 2009.ResultsThe qualification rate of junior middle school students on knowledge,attitude,life skill and total scores were 23.7%,34.8%,39.2% and 27.7%,respectively.In senior middle school students,the rates were 39.2%,41.9%,61.5% and 45.9% respectively,which were obviously higher than former.The total awareness rate for the basic knowledge on AIDS in male students,senior middle school students and students from urban areas was higher than that of in female students,junior middle school students and students from rural areas.Lack of professional and teaching materials were the main problems in health education for AIDS prevention in middle schools.ConclusionPromotion in teacher qualification,life skills-based HIV prevention education,and awareness of middle school students'self-protection against discrimination should be the most important issues for the purpose of ultimate achievement of curbing the spread of AIDS.

Abstract:Objectives:To understand situation on AIDS prevention knowledge,attitude and behaviors among junior high school students in the rural area,to provide base for AIDS prevention education in the rural area.Methods:Six hundred and twenty-three students in grade 7 and grade 8 from two secondary schools of rural area in Beijing were surveyed by self-administered questionnaire anonymously.Results:Of these students,61.3%,51.5% and 66.0% knew that HIV can be transmitted by sharing needle or syringe,sexual intercourse,and pregnant mother with HIV to the baby respectively,21.5%,25.8% and 20.4% knew that HIV can not be transmitted by hug,having class in the same classroom,and having dinner together.Fifty-three point eight percent of students expressed objection to the opinion of I would stop being friends with someone if that person got HIV.Three point six percent of students reported having sexual intercourse.The knowledge of the students was mainly from mass media(62.1%),such as TV,book/journal/newspaper,broadcast,and internet.Seventy-three point seven percent of students hope to learn AIDS prevention knowledge.Conclusion:The findings suggested that junior high school students in the rural area lacked AIDS prevention knowledge.We should pay more attention to the school AIDS prevention education in the rural area,and to expand AIDS prevention knowledge by the educated students to their family members and the peers.

Abstract:Objective: To understand AIDS knowledge of the college students,to provide scientific evidence for making out the strategy of health education and synthetic prevention measure purposely.Methods An anonymous questionnaire was conducted with face to face interview to investigate the college students in Xi'an, and the software Epi info 5.0 was used to perform the statistical analysis of the data. Results 70.5% of university students knew the whole name of AIDS. As to three ways of HIV transmission, the investigation shows that 49.1% of college students knew three main ways. The 26.5% of college students mistakenly think that mosquito could transmit HIV. In general, the old, the married the literate, and medical students get more knowledge about AIDS than the young,the unmarried,the illiterate, and other major students. Conclusion The college students who are one of the most dangerous groups infected AIDS have poor knowledge. The situation of poor AIDS knowledge is extremely unfit to the prevalent tendency of AIDS, which our country is being faced. We suggest that the college students should be educated intensively on the health knowledge of AIDS especiallis beingy for freshmen.

Abstract:[Objective]To know the current situation of risk behaviors,including knowledge,attitude and behavior of HIV /AIDS and sexual behaviors,provide the evidence for prevention and intervention.[Methods]5 641 middle school students were selected from Pudong New Area of Shanghai by stratified cluster sampling method,and investigated by Health-related behaviors questionnaire for Shanghai adolescents.[Results]The awareness rate of HIV / AIDS knowledge was 96. 84% among middle school students in Pudong New Area,and 52. 72% of students knew about the transmission route of HIV / AIDS. The major sources of HIV / AIDS knowledge were school( 38. 29%),classmates and friends( 15. 81%),TV / radio / newspaper / magazine( 15. 52%),internet( 9. 13%)and parents( 8. 85%). 36. 02% of the subjects showed the opposition to the isolation of AIDS patients. There existed prejudice,alienation and discrimination attitude toward HIV infections.[Conclusion]It is necessary to carry out the systematic health education about sexual knowledge and HIV / AIDS prevention knowledge among middle school students,and strengthen the guidance of sexual attitude and behavior in adolescents.
AIDS/HIV Education for Students in Urban High Schools in 18 Provinces of China

Abstract:Objective To analyze acquired immunodificiency syndrom/human immunodificiency virus(AIDS/HIV) health education for students in urban high schools in 18 provinces of China and to provide a basis for health education on AIDS among the students.Methods An anonymous questionnaire survey was conducted among 109 754 urban high school students selected by using multi-stage stratified cluster sampling method in 18 provinces and cities of China.Results The percentage of students who had ever been taught in school about AIDS or HIV infection was higher in elite high school students than in ordinary high school students or vacational high school students(P0.01),and HIV/AIDS education in high schools was not as ideal as expected in some areas.The knowledge of and attitude toward HIV/AIDS were better among students with the education program in school about AIDS or HIV infection than those without the education in different areas(P0.01).Conclusion There is a great disequilibrium in HIV/AIDS health education among different kinds of high schools in China.HIV/AIDS health education should be strengthened among vocational high school students and the educational effiency should also be promoted.

Abstract:Objective: To understand the knowledge level and attitude of first grade university students about AIDS in Xi'an and their influencing factors, and to direct the local health education for AIDS prevention. Methods: One thousand and one hundred sixty three students from a medical and a non medical university were surveyed with a self administered questionnaire in which the psychological factors were synthetically quantified; stepwise regression analysis was used to select the influencing factors. Results: The surveyed students knew some basic knowledge and the main transmission routes of AIDS. They did not discriminate against patients with AIDS, and could be cognizant of the importance of comprehensive AIDS prevention and were willing to participate in health education for AIDS prevention. Due to misknowledge about transmission routes of AIDS, they were in horror of AIDS. Knowledge level and attitude of medical students about AIDS were better than those of non medical students. Conclusion: Health education for AIDS prevention should be provided systematically in accordance with students' characteristics and their needs.

Abstract:What is already known about this topic?:The number of newly diagnosed human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) cases among Chinese youth 15-24 years of age shows an upward trend between 2010 and 2019.What is added by this report?:This survey is on a larger scale as compared to previous studies. It shows inadequate HIV knowledge - especially on HIV treatment, self-testing, and post-exposure prophylaxis - among college students. A significant gap exists between knowledge and behavior as indicated by the low condom use rate despite a high knowledge level.What are the implications for public health practice?:Findings suggest priorities for future HIV education and awareness creation of existing services. A low condom use rate at sexual debut suggests that HIV prevention education should start early.
HIV/AIDS-related Knowledge and Attitude in Teachers and Students of a Secondary Health Vocational School in Beijing

Abstract:Objective To understand current status of knowledge and attitude towards HIV/AIDS among teachers and students in a secondary health vocational school of Beijing.Methods An anonymous self-administered questionnaire survey was conducted in 574 teachers and students of grade two and grade three by cluster sampling in a secondary health vocational school of Beijing and ten of them were personally interviewed.Results Awareness of HIV/AIDS-related knowledge was 80.07 percent in the teachers and students, 84.97 percent in knowledge of routes of HIV/AIDS transmission and 69.63 percent in knowledge of the routes by which HIV/AIDS can not be transmitted. There were 53.10 percent of teachers and staff and 61.50 percent of the students of the school who were afraid of HIV/AIDS. And, 17.60 percent of the participants thought that HIV/AIDS patients should not enjoy the rights to go to school, 25.6% of them thought that HIV/AIDS patients should not enjoy the rights to work, 59.0% of them did not express sympathy to HIV/AIDS patients infected through sexual route and 87.5% of them showed no sympathy to HIV/AIDS patients infected through illegal drug use.Conclusion Awareness of HIV/AIDS-related knowledge was higher in teachers and students of this school, but they still had some misunderstanding about the routes by which HIV/AIDS can not be transmitted. Certain proportion of teachers and students were afraid of HIV/AIDS patients and showed discrimination towards them.

Abstract:Objective To investigate the awareness of AIDS knowledge among college students in 15 provinces in China,and to provide basic information for health intervention.Methods Undergraduate students were selected from 60 colleges in 15 provinces from municipalities and autonomous regions in China by multi-stage cluster sampling and were interviewed by questionnaires.Results The awareness on eight items of AIDS basic knowledge which provided to the public by the State (referred to the eight items) was 77.4％,showed significant differences in majors (P＜0.01),living areas prior to the college (P=0.012) and relationship status (P＜0.01).Compared to the students majoring Art,Science major (OR=1.324,95％CI=1.145-1.531) and Medicine major (OR =1.421,95％CI=1.204-1.678) were the promoting factors of the awareness of the eight items.Compared to unmarried and without lover,students with lover or married (OR =0.847,95％CI=0.750-0.957) had lower awareness of the eight items.AIDS knowledge from media and Internet (OR =0.702,95％ CI=0.661-0.745) and knowledge from school were promoting factors,while AIDS knowledge from family (OR=1.242,95％CI=1.166-1.323) was risk factor for awareness of AIDS.Conclusion AIDS knowledge among college students is not sufficient.The publicity and education of AIDS prevention should be promoted through Internet and school settings,focusing on consciousness of self-protection among college students.

Abstract:OBJECTIVE:To investigate HIV/AIDS related knowledge and attitude among high school students in China, and to preliminarily evaluate the effects of the special HIV/AIDS prevention education programme.METHODS:A total of 6487 high school students from 24 high schools of Beijing, Zhengzhou and Tangshan were investigated by using questionnaire, among which, 6487 students completed the questionnaire (96.08%). chi(2) test, t test and one way ANOVA were used to test the group differences and logistic regression was employed for further analysis. P < 0.05 was considered as statistically significance.RESULTS:The mean knowledge and attitude scores of the students were separately 14.42 out of 20 and 6.47 out of 10. Students from Tangshan had the significantly (P < 0.001) highest knowledge and attitude level (average score of knowledge = 15.11, average score of attitude = 7.21) followed by Beijing (average score of knowledge = 14.62, average score of attitude = 6.15) and Zhengzhou (average score of knowledge = 13.56, average score of attitude = 6.07). The significant differences were observed in all except the varying attitude between Zhengzhou and Beijing (Knowledge comparison: t(Tangshan vs Beijing) = 0.49, P < 0.001, t(Tangshan vs Zhengzhou) = 1.56, P < 0.001, t(Zhengzhou vs Beijing) = 1.07, P < 0.001; Attitude Comparison: t(Tangshan vs Beijing) = 1.06, P < 0.001, t(Tangshan vs Zhengzhou) = 1.14, P < 0.001, t(Zhengzhou vs Beijing) = 0.08, P = 0.282). Boys had higher knowledge scores (average score of knowledge = 14.61) than those of girls (average score of knowledge = 14.23, t = 4.22, P < 0.001) but no significant difference was found (average knowledge score of boys = 6.47, average knowledge score of girls = 6.48, t = 0.16, P = 0.869). Higher knowledge level (OR = 1.21, P < 0.001) and being a rural student (OR = 1.31, P < 0.001) were significantly associated with higher attitude level, while higher grade (OR = 0.85, P = 0.003) and better academic performance (OR = 0.94, P = 0.003) were negative predictors of attitude.CONCLUSION:The HIV/AIDS related knowledge among high school students in China was relatively limited and instability positive attitude under the pressure of social desirability. It is necessary to tailor the special education strategies for further education effect improvement.

Abstract:Objective To understand the knowledge level and attitude toward AIDS of middle school students in Shanyang County in order to provide reference for carrying out health education on AIDS prevention in schools.Methods Totally 310 students from one middle school of Shangyang County were surveyed with questionnaire including demographical information,AIDS-related knowledge and attitude.Results The students' average level of knowledge on AIDS transmission method was high.The average score of knowledge and attitude both between sexes and among grades were significant;the correlation coefficient between knowledge score and attitude score was 0.408.Conclusion Middle school students have acquired a certain amount of knowledge about AIDS,but not perfect and systematic.Therefore,health education with diversified forms and contents on AIDS control should be carried out in schools based on different features of different age groups so as to upgrade middle students' knowledge.

Abstract:Objective To investigate AIDS relative knowledge and sexual intercourse among college students in China,and provide evidences for exploring favorable AIDS health education and behavior strategy for Chinese college students.Methods A questionnaire survey was carried out among 3441 college students from 5 colleges.AIDS relative knowledge,sexual intercourse,AIDS health education requirement and status in college were investigated.Results 76.2% of students knew correct AIDS relative knowledge.There was significant statistic differences in knowledge score among different gender and grades(P<0.05).9.5% of the students had sexual intercourse and only 20.1% of them used condom every time.87.6% of the students showed their willingness to study AIDS relative knowledge while only 21.5% were content with the current education course in colleges.Conclusion The model and strategy of AIDS health education need to be further developed in colleges,and training on AIDS preventive skill should be carried out among college students.

Abstract:Objective To understand the attitude of health workers towards people living with HIV and AIDS(PLWHA) and AIDS knowledge and desire for related training among them in selected hospitals in Beijing.Method Convenience sampling was used to select health workers from 32 hospitals of different levels in 4 districts within Beijing.Anonymous self-administrated questionnaires were used to collect the information regarding AIDS knowledge and desire for relevant training.Results A total of 1 292 health workers completed the questionnaire.They demonstrated a moderate level of general AIDS knowledge,but a low level of knowledge related to AIDS diagnosis and therapy.Of them 39.7% had received specialized AIDS training and 96% had strongly desire for such specialized training.Most health workers sympathized with PLWHA and understood their situation,while some of them were afraid of PLWHA and wanted to have minimal contact with PLWHA.91.3% of the health workers expressed that PLWHA should have the same rights to medical services.At the same time,49.2% of the health workers stated that they would not like to work in hospitals or departments which accepted PLWHA.80% of the health workers expressed concern over acquiring HIV infection in the workplace.52.7% of them thought that they had a risk of becoming infected in the workplace.Conclusion The level of AIDS knowledge among health workers in Beijing needs to be improved.Specialized training to enhance and develop health workers knowledge of prevention,diagnosis and treatment of AIDS is required.Most of the health workers do not discriminate against PLWHA,but they express concern over infection in the workplace.

Abstract:Objective To get to know the knowledge,attitudes and behavior status of AIDS/HIV among senior middle school students in Sanming Middle School of Fujian Province,in order to provide scientific basis for the exploration and promotion of fessible health education and behavior intervention.Methods 3 068 freshmen of senior high school in Sanming city were surveyed with questionnaire on AIDS relevant problems.Results In general the cognition rate of AIDS related knowledge was low,and the score on that knowledge was about 18.60±8.12.Among all the people who answered the questionnaire,81.3% had the correct answers to the three major ways of AIDS transmission,however,the cognition rate of the minor ways was low.Among all the knowledge scores,boy students scored higher than girl students;students from key middle schools scored higher than those who were from average middle schools and professional middle schools.Boy students were more open on pre-marital and unmarital sexes(P0.01)and more tolerable of AIDS patient(P0.05).About 45.5% students showed sympathy for AIDS patients.Sex behavior rate was 3.6%(4.6% in professional middle schools),and there was no statistical sense of the difference between male and female students(P0.05).Conclusion In Sanming,students' knowledge of AIDS is inadequate,and it is very necessary to carry out AIDS prevention programs in this group of people.

Abstract:Objective To understand situation of freshmen's knowledge,attitudes and sex behaviors on AIDS prevention.Methods Seven hundred and forty-six freshmen in a university in Beijing were surveyed by irregistered questionnaire.Results More than 90% of the students know that HIV may be spread through sexual intercourse,mother-to-baby,and venous drug abuse.But there is 31% of the students who did not know HIV can be transmitted by homosexual intercourse;24% of the students did not know how to use condom correctly to prevent HIV infection.Regarding the basic AIDS prevention knowledge,the score of boys was significantly higher than that of girls,and the score of students from urban areas was higher than that of students from rural areas.The students' knowledge on AIDS mainly from mass media.85.8% of students are keen to learn more AIDS/STD prevention knowledge.52.4% of students were still willing to continue the friendship with their friends infected by HIV.1.2% of students reported that they had sexual intercourse.Conclusion AIDS prevention education must be enhanced in school,and more attention should be paid to education on non-discrimination of HIV-infected persons.
