Establishment of the Molecular Approach to Identify Chicken′s Early/Late Feathering Phenotype and Its Application

Abstract:Based on the alleles controlling chicken′s early and late feathering phenotypes,an effective molecular method to identify the phenotypes of early and late feathering was established by using duplex PCR. It was verified that the accuracy was 100% in an auto-sexing population. It was found in a mixed population that except for the sub-phenotype of the micro-length late feathering,the phenotypes of other four sub-phenotypes identified by classical way could be well and truly judged by the molecular approach, while the fitness of micro-length late feathering was 94.1%. It showed that there was not significant difference (P >0.05) in birth weight between different feather phenotypes,and there was significant difference (P<0.01) in bodyweight between early and later feathering phenotype from the first to 8th week.
