Abstract:Several aromatic aldehydes and sodium bisulfite were mixed to prepare hydroxyl sulfonates,which were added to o-phenylenediamine or substituted o-phenylenediamine in refluxing ethanol to afford 2-substi-tuted benzimidazoles through oxidation by air directly.One of the fifteen synthesized compounds,2-(4-chlorophyenyl)-6-methoxyl-1H-benzimidazole has not been reported.All the compounds were identified by IR,1H NMR spectra and elemental analysis.The method is simple,mild,eco-friendly and requires no catalyst.

Abstract:A phosgene- and metal-free synthesis of unsymmetrical arylurea derivatives utilizing 3-substituted dioxazolones and commercially available amines has been developed. The 3-substituted dioxazolones serve as the precursors of thein situgenerated isocyanate intermediates in the presence of non-toxic sodium acetate as a base and methanol as a solvent under mild heating conditions. A series of unsymmetrical phenylureas includingN, N'- mono-, di-, and trisubstituted derivatives are chemoselectively obtained in moderate to excellent yields from a broad scope of both 3-substituted dioxazolones and amines without a significant amount of the symmetrical byproducts. In many cases, the resulting unsymmetrical phenylureas are easily separated by filtration allowing no chromatographic purification. These investigations provide an opportunity for facile, practical, and eco-friendly synthesis of unsymmetrical diarylureas. Application of this method is demonstrated toward the gram-scale preparation of anti-cancer drugs, sorafenib and the 3-cycle continuous synthesis in conjugation with the recycle of sodium acetate and methanol process of known herbicide, daimuron.

Abstract:A procedure for synthesis of 2-methoxyphenothiazine (1) has been developed, starting from resorcinol and aniline by condensation, following methylation and cyclization. p-Toluenesulfonic acid and polysubstituted aromatics were employed as the catalyst of condensation and the solvent of cyclization, respectively, to improve the yield. The use of parallel experiments, statistical experimental design, and multivariate modeling made the total yield of the procedure as high as 74.2%. J. Heterocyclic Chem., (2012).

Abstract: The synthetic methods to prepare 2-alkyl(aryl)-4,5diphenyloxazoles and 2-alkyl(aryl)-4-phenyloxazoles were improved on the basis of a mechanistic study of oxazole formation from α -hydroxy ketones (carboxylic esters of benzoin and phenacyl alcohols). By these methods, seven trisubstituted oxazoles and twelve disubstituted oxazoles of the title compounds were prepared.

Abstract:The first aryl iodide catalyzed intramolecular C-H amination of phenylurea has been disclosed for high-efficiency synthesis of benzimidazolone derivatives in excellent yields (up to 97%) by an operationally simple one-step organocatalytic oxidative process. Fluorinated protic alcohols can efficiently accelerate the conversion of this transformation. The straightforward method has good functional group tolerance and can be performed with an inexpensive and readily accessible catalyst with high proficiency.

Abstract:A new practical method for the synthesis of a non-cross-linked polystyrene supported 2-phenylimino-2-oxazolidine chiral auxiliary is reported. This method started from the same material as in a previous synthesis, N-Boc-L-tyrosine ethyl ester, but the overall yield was 42.5%, which was higher than the copolymerisation method.

Abstract:2-Arylphenols were conveniently synthesized from aryl iodides and 6-diazo-2-cyclohexenones, in moderate to excellent yields, via tandem Pd-catalyzed cross-coupling/aromatization. The preliminary results for the corresponding enantioselective version showed that the coupling products could be generated in up to 72% ee.

Abstract:Ethyl and phenyl oxanilates were readily prepared from N-(2-bromobenzyl)anilines and oxalyl chloride monoethyl and monophenyl esters, respectively. It was found that the ethyl oxanilate survived in the presence of K2CO3 in DMA at 120 degrees C and underwent an intramolecular direct arylation using Pd(OAc)(2)-dppf, furnishing the 5,6-dihydrophenanthridine derivative. In contrast, the corresponding phenyl oxanilates decomposed upon exposure to K2CO3 in DMA at 120 degrees C and were transformed into N-arylisoindolin-1-ones via Pd(OAc)(2)-dppf-catalyzed intramolecular decarbonylative coupling. Except for the 4-methoxy-substituted oxanilic acid phenyl ester, other phenyl oxanilates possessing electron-withdrawing (NO2, Cl) and weak electron-donating (Me) substituents provided the N-arylisoindolin-1-ones in 43-80% yields.

Abstract:Abstract In this study, we developed a process for the [2+1+3] cyclization of 2‐methylbenzothiazole salts, aldehydes and amidine hydrochlorides, which allows rapid synthesis of 1,3‐diazaphenothiazines with moderate to good yields. The use of ethanol as solvent, oxygen as the terminal oxidant, mild reaction conditions, good functionality tolerance show the promising application in organic synthesis.

Abstract:Improved synthesis of 4-benzylidene-2,6-di-tert-butylcyclohexa-2,5-dienone has been developed. The dropwise addition of secondary amines was shown to reduce the dosages of amines drastically. In optimized conditions, the dosages of the catalysts were only 0.3–0.5 M of 2,6-di-tert-butylphenol. Removing the water generated in the step of Mannich base formation was found to hugely accelerate the whole reaction and improve the product yield. The catalytic activity of several annular secondary amines including morpholine and piperidine in this reaction has been researched. Most of the amines led to good yields. Using this method, 2,6-di-tert-butylphenol reacted with a wide range of aromatic aldehydes to produce nine diverse 4-benzylidene-2,6-di-tert-butylcyclohexa-2,5-dienone derivatives of up to 75 % yield.

Abstract:Polyethylene glycol supported (diacetoxy)iodobenzene as a soluble polymer reagent can smoothly oxidize aldehyde phenylhydrazones to generated nitrilimines in situ, which can be trapped by methyl acrylate to carry out 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition, forming the completely regioselective products of methyl 1-phenyl-3-substituted-2-pyrazolinyl-5-carboxylates in good to excellent yields under mild conditions.

Abstract:Nine 2-aryl-4-phenyloxazoles are prepared from phenacyl benzoates and acetamide in boiling xylene under the action of boron fluoride as catalyst. By this improved method the oxazoles are obtained as single products with yields ranging 75-90%.

Abstract:The Cu-catalyzed regioselective synthesis of phenazine N-oxides was realized from benzoxadiazoles and diaryliodonium salts. The process was initiated by the electrophilic arylation of benzoxadiazoles with diaryliodonium salts and followed by benzocyclization reactions. The further reduction of N-oxides in situ to phenazine scaffolds and deviation to organic fluorescent materials were readily accomplished.

Abstract:We report an efficient palladium-catalyzed approach to the synthesis of benzoxazole derivatives via sequential heteroarylation/acylation reaction of iodobenzenes. Three readily available starting materials, iodobenzenes, anhydrides, and benzoxazoles, were smoothly coupled to form new C-C bonds at the ortho and ipso positions of the iodobenzenes to afford 2-heteroaryl-3-acylbenzene derivatives in good yields.

Abstract:An optimized two-step synthesis of 2,5-bis(4-aminophenyl)-1,3,4-oxadiazole has been established.The reaction of 4-nitrobenzoic acid and semicarbazide hydrochloride at 150-160 ℃ for 2 h,using polyphosphoric acid as the dehydrating reagent,afforded 2,5-bis(4-nitrophenyl)-1,3,4-oxadiazole in 89% yield.This was subsequently reduced with Na2S in DMF at 100 ℃ for 4 h,to give the title compound in 85% yield.The as-prepared title compound is sufficiently pure for further uses.

Abstract:A facile, green, and efficient method for the direct oxidative amination of benzoxazoles using heterocyclic ionic liquid as catalyst has been developed. The reaction proceeded smoothly at room temperature and gave the desirable 2-aminobenzoxazoles with good to excellent yields (up to 97%). The catalyst 1-butylpyridinium iodide can be easily recycled and reused with similar efficacies for at least four cycles.
