Abstract:Objective:With healthy persons as control,to explore explicit and implicit emotional procession of major depressive disorder(MDD).Methods:From December 2006 to December 2007,14 major depressive disorder patients(DSM-Ⅳ standard)and 14 healthy adults as control underwent examination of blood oxygen level dependent(BOLD)functional magnetic resonance imaging(fMRI)with viewing expressional faces.Images of explicit emotional procession were collected when the subjects were demanded to identify the expression of different faces, while images of implicit emotional procession were taken by identifing the gender of faces.Statistical Parametric Mapping(SPM2)was applied to analyze the BOLD signals among different groups and tasks.Results:①To identify the expression, activation of parietal lobe, subiculum hippocampi, basal ganglia, fusiform gyrus, thalamus, insular, anterior cingutate, and gyrus subcallosum were produced by sad faces, and activation of anterior cingutate only by happy faces in MDD subjects.②To identify the gender, there were activation in middle frontal lobe, inferior parietal lobe, anterior cingutate, middle temporal gyrus by sad faces, without activation signal by happy faces in MDD subjects.Conclusion:①The processing of the brain were different between explicit and implicit emotional stimulation in MDD subjects. There were higher signals induced by sad faces in MDD subjects.②Regardless of the tasks, with sad faces,MDD subjects showed higher activation than did controls, and lower activation with happy faces. It indicated that there was neural impairment in the MDD,with decreased response to positive emotion and increased response to negative emotion.
