Sample Survey on Periodontal Attachment Loss of Middle-aged and Old People in Fujian Province

Abstract:Objective To study periodontal conditions of middle-and elded-aged in fujian province,and provide fundamental guidance for oral health care of these people.Method Using the method of multistage,stratified,equal capacity,disproportion,and simple random sampling,the periodontal attachment loss,periodontal severity and the AL comparison between Ⅰ,Ⅲ quadrant and Ⅱ,Ⅳ quadrant were assessed among 720 middle-aged(33～44 years old) and 720 elded-aged(65～74 years old),with a gender ratio of half to half,from 36 investigating areas of 6 counties in Fujian Province.Results In middle-aged group,the prevalence and mean number of teeth with AL among 0～3 mm were higher in females(P0.01P0.05),and the prevalence and mean number of teeth with AL≥ 6 mm were higher in males(P0.01P0.01).While the mean number of teeth with AL among 4～5 mm was higher in middle-aged males(P0.01),and the prevalence of teeth with AL among 4～5 mm was lower in middle-aged females,there was no statistically significant difference between middle-aged males and females(P0.05).In elded-aged group,the prevalence of teeth with AL among 0～3 mm and 4～5 mm was higher in females(P0.05 P0.05),while the prevalence of teeth with AL≥ 6 mm was higher in males(P0.01).The mean number of teeth with attachment loss among 4～5 mm and ≥6 mm was lower in old females(P0.01P0.01).The comparison of mean number of teeth with AL among 0～3 mm between old females and males was no statistically significant difference(P0.05).The comparison of AL betweenⅠⅢ quadrant and Ⅱ Ⅳ quadrant was also of no statistically significant difference(P0.05).Conclusion The AL of elded-aged was more severe than that of middle-aged.In male,the AL was worse.The AL in cross-quadrant of split-mouth could represent the periodontal condition.
