Abstract:The spontaneous magnetization of the Kagome lattice in the Ising model is thoroughly investigated. The proof of the fallacy of spontaneous magnetization obtained earlier and repeatedly migrating from publication to publication is given. An exact expression is presented in the standard Onsager form for spontaneous magnetization in the anisotropic case (depending on arbitrary values and the signs of exchange interactions in all three directions on the Kagome lattice). The frustration properties of the Ising model on 2D Kagome lattice comprehensively studied including the conditions for frustration appearance. The properties of 3D Kagome materials (sometimes contradictory) are explained on the basis of obtained rigorous theoretical results.

Abstract:The magnetic behaviours of a two-dimensional square-octagon lattice with mixed spin 5/2 and spin 1 magnetic atoms are investigated in a dynamic magnetic field using effective field theory with correlations. We studied the effects of exchange coupling, anisotropy, oscillating magnetic fields, and temperature on the dynamic magnetic and thermodynamic properties of the square-octagon lattice. The dynamic magnetisation, order parameters, susceptibility, internal energy, and phase diagram of the system were obtained. These results significantly contribute to our understanding of the dynamic magnetic properties of two-dimensional materials. The ability to manipulate and control magnetic behaviour in two dimensions holds promise for the creation of more efficient and versatile devices.

Abstract:The motivation for this paper is the analysis of the fixed-density Ising lattice gas in the presence of a gravitational field. This is seen as a particular instance of an Ising model with a slowly varying magnetic field in the fixed magnetization ensemble. We first characterize the typical magnetization profiles in the regime in which the contribution of the magnetic field competes with the bulk energy term. We then discuss in more detail the particular case of a gravitational field and the arising interfacial phenomena. In particular, we identify the macroscopic profile and propose several conjectures concerning the interface appearing in the phase coexistence regime. The latter are supported by explicit computations in an effective model. Finally, we state some conjectures concerning equilibrium crystal shapes in the presence of a gravitational field, when the latter contributes to the energy only to surface order.

Correlation functions, free energies and magnetizations in the two-dimensional random-field Ising model

Abstract:Transfer-matrix methods are used to calculate spin-spin correlation functions ($G$), Helmholtz free energies ($f$) and magnetizations ($m$) in the two-dimensional random-field Ising model close to the zero-field bulk critical temperature $T_{c 0}$, on long strips of width $L = 3 - 18$ sites, for binary field distributions. Analysis of the probability distributions of $G$ for varying spin-spin distances $R$ shows that describing the decay of their averaged values by effective correlation lengths is a valid procedure only for not very large $R$. Connections between field-- and correlation function distributions at high temperatures are established, yielding approximate analytical expressions for the latter, which are used for computation of the corresponding structure factor. It is shown that, for fixed $R/L$, the fractional widths of correlation-function distributions saturate asymptotically with $L^{-2.2}$. Considering an added uniform applied field $h$, a connection between $f(h)$, $m(h)$, the Gibbs free energy $g(m)$ and the distribution function for the uniform magnetization in zero uniform field, $P_0(m)$, is derived and first illustrated for pure systems, and then applied for non-zero random field. From finite-size scaling and crossover arguments, coupled with numerical data, it is found that the width of $P_0(m)$ varies against (non-vanishing, but small) random-field intensity $H_0$ as $H_0^{-3/7}$.

Abstract:We prove that for the Ising model defined on the plane $\Z^2$ at $\beta=\beta_c$, the average magnetization under an external magnetic field $h>0$ behaves exactly like \[{\sigma_0}_{\beta_c, h} \asymp h^{\frac 1 {15}}\,. \] The proof, which is surprisingly simple compared to an analogous result for percolation (i.e. that $\theta(p)=(p-p_c)^{5/36+o(1)}$ on the triangular lattice \cite{\SmirnovWerner,\KestenScaling}) relies on the GHS inequality as well as the RSW theorem for FK percolation from \cite{\RSWfk}. The use of GHS to obtain inequalities involving critical exponents is not new; in this paper we show how it can be combined with RSW to obtain matching upper and lower bounds for the average magnetization.

Abstract:This paper presents a novel interpretation of the long-range interaction in interlayers to analyze the magnetic properties of a 2D Ising layered model. To describe the long-range interaction, spin chains are introduced, while magnetic and thermodynamic behaviors of the 2D Ising layered model are investigated by Monte Carlo methods. Phase diagrams in various parameter planes are produced. Furthermore, we investigate the hysteresis behaviors and critical exponents, which are consistent with previous findings. Finally, we analyze the magnetocaloric effects, including entropy change and relative cooling power (RCP), caused by different Hamiltonian parameters. Graphical We introduce the new interpretation of the long-range interaction in the interlayers to investigate the magnetocaloric effect of a 2D Ising layered model. Abstract:The Ising model is generalized to two translations on Union Jack lattice with interactions between the spins at the nearest and noncrossing diagonal neighbor sites. Exact analytical expressions are derived for the largest eigenvalue of the Kramers-Wannier transfer matrix as well as for the spontaneous magnetization, taking into account the specified interactions (six parameters of exchange interactions on the whole). The thermodynamic and frustration properties of the model are investigated. The essential features of the behavior of entropy, heat capacity and spontaneous magnetization are revealed. A number of exact expressions for phase-transition temperatures, zero-temperature entropy (residual entropy) and zero-temperature spontaneous magnetization (residual spontaneous magnetization) are obtained. Especially replete with new effects, the model under consideration manifests itself in a wide variety of special cases and relationships with other lattices, including new lattices found and not previously investigated.

Abstract:We consider the behavior of an Ising ferromagnet obeying the Glauber dynamics under the influence of a fast switching, random external field. In Part I, we introduced a general formalism for describing such systems and presented the mean field theory. In this article we derive results for the one dimensional case, which can be only partially solved. Monte Carlo simulations performed on a square lattice indicate that the main features of the mean field theory survive the presence of strong fluctuations.
A comparative study of $2d$ Ising model at different boundary conditions using Cellular Automata

Abstract:Using Cellular Automata, we simulate spin systems corresponding to $2d$ Ising model with various kinds of boundary conditions (bcs). The appearance of spontaneous magnetization in the absence of magnetic field is studied with a $64\times64$ square lattice with five different bcs, i.e., periodic, adiabatic, reflexive, fixed ($+1$ or $-1$) bcs with three initial conditions (all spins up, all spins down and random orientation of spins). In the context of $2d$ Ising model, we have calculated the magnetisation, energy, specific heat, susceptibility and entropy with each of the bcs and observed that the phase transition occurs around $T_c$ = 2.269 as obtained by Onsager. We compare the behaviour of magnetisation vs temperature for different types of bcs by calculating the number of points close to the line of zero magnetisation after $T>T_c$ at various lattice sizes. We observe that the periodic, adiabatic and reflexive bcs give closer approximation to the value of $T_c$ than fixed +1 and fixed -1 bcs with all three initial conditions for lattice size less than $70\times70$. However, for lattice size between $70\times70$ and $100\times100$, fixed +1 bc and fixed -1 bc give closer approximation to the $T_c$ with initial conditions all spin down configuration and all spin up configuration respectively.

Abstract:The problems of an Ising model in a magnetic field and a lattice gas are proved mathematically equivalent. From this equivalence an example of a two-dimensional lattice gas is given for which the phase transition regions in the $p\ensuremath{-}v$ diagram is exactly calculated.A theorem is proved which states that under a class of general conditions the roots of the grand partition function always lie on a circle. Consequences of this theorem and its relation with practical approximation methods are discussed. All the known exact results about the two-dimensional square Ising lattice are summarized, and some new results are quoted.

Abstract:Motivated by a recent experiment on a square-lattice Rydberg atom array realizing a long-range dipolar XY model [Chen et al., Nature (2023)], we numerically study the model's equilibrium properties. We obtain the phase diagram, critical properties, entropies, variance of the magnetization, and site-resolved correlation functions. We consider both ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic interactions and apply quantum Monte Carlo and pseudo-Majorana functional renormalization group techniques, generalizing the latter to a U(1) symmetric setting. Our simulations perform extensive thermometry for the first time in dipolar Rydberg atom arrays and establish conditions for adiabaticity and thermodynamic equilibrium. On the ferromagnetic side of the experiment, we determine the entropy per particle S/N~0.5, close to the one at the critical temperature, S_c/N = 0.585(15). The simulations suggest the presence of an out-of-equilibrium plateau at large distances in the correlation function, thus motivating future studies on the non-equilibrium dynamics of the system.

Critical dynamical behavior of the Ising model

Abstract:We investigate the dynamical critical behavior of the two- and three-dimensional Ising model with Glauber dynamics in equilibrium. In contrast to the usual standing, we focus on the mean-squared deviation of the magnetization $M$, MSD$_M$, as a function of time, as well as on the autocorrelation function of $M$. These two functions are distinct but closely related. We find that MSD$_M$ features a first crossover at time $\tau_1 \sim L^{z_{1}}$, from ordinary diffusion with MSD$_M$ $\sim t$, to anomalous diffusion with MSD$_M$ $\sim t^\alpha$. Purely on numerical grounds, we obtain the values $z_1=0.45(5)$ and $\alpha=0.752(5)$ for the two-dimensional Ising ferromagnet. Related to this, the magnetization autocorrelation function crosses over from an exponential decay to a stretched-exponential decay. At later times, we find a second crossover at time $\tau_2 \sim L^{z_{2}}$. Here, MSD$_M$ saturates to its late-time value $\sim L^{2+\gamma/\nu}$, while the autocorrelation function crosses over from stretched-exponential decay to simple exponential one. We also confirm numerically the value $z_{2}=2.1665(12)$, earlier reported as the single dynamic exponent. Continuity of MSD$_M$ requires that $\alpha(z_{2}-z_{1})=\gamma/\nu-z_1$. We speculate that $z_{1} = 1/2$ and $\alpha = 3/4$, values that indeed lead to the expected $z_{2} = 13/6$ result. A complementary analysis for the three-dimensional Ising model provides the estimates $z_{1} = 1.35(2)$, $\alpha=0.90(2)$, and $z_{2} = 2.032(3)$. While $z_{2}$ has attracted significant attention in the literature, we argue that for all practical purposes $z_{1}$ is more important, as it determines the number of statistically independent measurements during a long simulation.

Abstract:We study the 2D Ising model in a complex magnetic field in the vicinity of the Yang-Lee edge singularity. By using Baxter's variational corner transfer matrix method combined with analytic techniques, we numerically calculate the scaling function and obtain an accurate estimate of the location of the Yang-Lee singularity. The existing series expansions for susceptibility of the 2D Ising model on a triangular lattice by Chan, Guttmann, Nickel and Perk allowed us to substantially enhance the accuracy of our calculations. Our results are in excellent agreement with the Ising field theory calculations by Fonseca, Zamolodchikov and the recent work by Xu and Zamolodchikov. In particular, we numerically confirm an agreement between the leading singular behavior of the scaling function and the predictions of the ${\mathcal M}_{2/5}$ conformal field theory.

Abstract:By the simple updated infinite Lime-evolving block decimation (iTEBD) algorithm, the magnetization process and phase diagram of the antiferromagnetic and ferromagnetic spin-1 Ising model with single-ion anisotropy on he Z=3 Bettie lattice have been investigated. For the antiferromagnetic case, three magnetization plateaus, i.e., M-z=0, 1/2, and 1, are observed. The novel 1/2 plateau state, which was reported on the 1D spin chain previously, is shown to exist on the Z=3 Bethe lattice. For this classical model without any quantum fluctuations, the 1/2 magnetization plateau is suggested to be caused by the stability of spatially modulated spin structures. Furthermore, in the M-z = 0 plateau, two different phases (an ideal Neel phase and an ideal large-D phase) are distinguished. The phase boundaries are determined exactly, and a rich phase diagram including four phases is obtained. In addition, the magnetization process of the ferromagnetic case is also discussed, but a relatively simple phase diagram without 1/2 plateau phase is determined. Abstract:Using a combinatorial method, the partition functions for two-dimensional nearest neighbour Ising models have been derived for a square lattice of 16 sites in the presence of the magnetic field. A novel hierarchical method of enumeration of all the configurations for any arrangement of sites has been proposed. This enumeration has been executed by a systematic analysis of the appropriate diagrams without employing any algorithmic approach or computational tools. The resulting algebraic eqn in terms of the magnetic field and nearest neighbour interaction energies may then provide a methodology for deducing the magnetization in the thermodynamic limit of infinite sites. A semi-empirical eqn for magnetization is proposed for non-zero magnetic fields.
Magnetization Plateaus in the Two-dimensional S = 1/2 Heisenberg Model with a 3$\times$3 Checkerboard Structure

Abstract:We investigate the S=1/2 antiferromagnetic Heisenberg model with a 3$\times$3 checkerboard lattice structure in a longitudinal magnetic field. By using the stochastic series expansion quantum Monte Carlo (SSE-QMC) method, we obtain the properties of the non-plateau XY phase, 1/9, 3/9, 5/9, 7/9 magnetization plateau phases, and fully polarized phase. Then, we determine the precise phase transition critical points belonging to the 3D XY universality class through finite-size scaling. Moreover, we study the longitudinal and transverse dynamic spin structure factors of this model in different phases. For the non-plateau XY phase, the energy spectra present a gap between the low-energy gapless branch and the high-energy part under the competition of magnetic field and interaction. The gapless branch can be described by the spin wave theory in the canted antiferromagnetic phase of the effective "block spin" model. In the magnetization plateau phase, we identify that the excitation arises from localized disturbances within the sublattice, which are capable of spreading in momentum space. This study offers theoretical insights and interpretations for the characteristics of the ground state and the inelastic neutron scattering spectrum in two-dimensional quantum magnetic materials. Specifically, it focuses on materials with a checkerboard unit cell structure and odd-spin configurations under the influence of a longitudinal magnetic field.

Ground State of the Two-Dimensional Isotropic Antiferromagnetic Heisenberg Model of S= 1/2 on a Square Lattice

Abstract:An application of the method developed in our previous papers to a two-dimensional isotropic Heisenberg antiferromagnet of S = 1/2 on a square lattice is presented. A self-consistent independent spin-wave representation (SCISWR) is proposed in which we have performed the renormalization from both the dynamic and kinematics interaction and calculated the corrections from the correlation of the nearest-neighbour and next-nearest-neighbour sites. An anisotropy spin-wave excitation energy in unrestricted space is found self-consistently and has a gap. The difficulty of divergence of higher-order terms in usual spin-wave theory seems to have been overcome. Our calculation shows the ground-state energy E almost-equal-to -0.659 NJ.
Thermodynamics of Ising Spins on the Star Lattice

Abstract:There is a new class of two-dimensional magnetic materials polymeric iron (III) acetate fabricated recently in which Fe ions form a star lattice. We study the thermodynamics of Ising spins on the star lattice with exact analytic method and Monte Carlo simulations. Mapping the star lattice to the honeycomb lattice, we obtain the partition function for the system with asymmetric interactions. The free energy, internal energy, specific heat, entropy and susceptibility are presented, which can be used to determine the sign of the interactions in the real materials. Moreover, we find the rich phase diagrams of the system as a function of interactions, temperature and external magnetic field. For frustrated interactions without external field, the ground state is disordered (spin liquid) with residual entropy 1.522 per unit cell. When a weak field is applied, the system enters a ferrimagnetic phase with residual entropy ln4 per unit cell.
