Abstract:Recently nicotine and other neuronal nicotinic acetylcholine receptor(nAChR) agonists have been used in experimental and clinical trials, and have been found to have neuroprotective effects.Some of them have been considered to be potential candidates for treatment of neurodegenerative disease such as Alzheimer's disease(AD) and Parkinson disease(PD).Neuroprotective effects have been observed for nAChR activation in vivo and in vitro studies, however, the mechanisms of these effects have not been very clear.This paper reviewed the research on nAChR, neuroprotection of nAChR activation and molecular mechanisms.
