Abstract:Aim.The introduction of the full paper points out that the method in Ref.3,which,essentially,still employs the fixed timings coordinated control,is not quite satisfactory for the heavy traffic that often occurs.Sections 1 and 2 explain what we believe to be a better method. The core of section 1 consists of: we describe the macro traffic flow movement in a traffic arterial system and the dynamic offsets among the intersections of traffic arterial system;we also construct the dynamic optimization and control model of the traffic signal timings in the traffic arterial system, using the arrivals of the traffic flow and the coupling effects of a vehicle queue between traffic signal cycles;for the optimization and control model,we adopt the maximum throughput of the traffic arterial system as the optimization objective and the signal cycles, splits and offsets as decisive variables.Section 2 designs the real-coded genetic algorithm to solve the optimization problem. To verify the effectiveness of our dynamic optimization and control method, section 3 uses an example to simulate the traffic flow in the five intersections along the traffic arterial system under dynamic traffic demands;the simulation results, presented in Table 2 and Fig.3,and their analysis show preliminarily that our control method can significantly improve the traffic throughput and has a better adaptability to the dynamic characteristics of the traffic flow compared with the traditional fixed timings coordinated control method.
