Abstract:The aim of the paper is to construct a new subdivision wavelet based on our curve subdivision scheme and apply it to a boundness multianalysis of a map. It is better than B-spline subdivision wavelet in [4] on keeping flatness and contour when simplifying graphics.

Abstract:Subdivision curves are always generated by repeated approximation or interpolation from an initial control polygon.A new geometric subdivision scheme is proposed for curve design by corner cutting.Instead of cutting corners by beeline,every corner is cut by a polyline.It is shown that curves generated by this scheme have the similar properties such as convexity preserving property,convex hull property as Bezier curves.Several parameters are used for the control of the subdivision process,and the influence of every parameter is local.It is shown that the subdivision curve is C~1 when the parameters lie within a certain range.Moreover,circles can be generated by the new scheme explicitly.

Abstract:By extending the normal based subdivision scheme for curve and surface design,a new algorithm for image interpolation is proposed in this paper.The images will be zoomed in by interpolatory subdivision and no intermediate continuous surface model should be established.With proper choices of the subdivision parameters,images can be interpolated with any positive real scale while edges and borders within images can be kept well.Examples and comparisons with some other image interpolation methods show that the new image interpolation algorithm has the advantage of good edge preservation,linear complexity and easy implementation.

Abstract:Dual pseudo splines constitute a new class of refinable functions with B-splines as special examples. In this paper, we shall construct Riesz wavelet associated with dual pseudo splines. Furthermore, we use dual pseudo splines to construct tight frame systems with desired approximation order by applying the unitary extension principle.

Abstract:Taking advantage of orthogonality, locality and oscillation of non-uniform B-spline wavelets, a new fairing algorithm for rational B-spline curve was studied. Various knots selection methods were used to decompose the non-uniform rational B-spline(NURBS) curve.The global and local fairing for the NURBS curve were implemented through approximation. The problem of position and tangent preserving at end points were dealt with by adding constraints. The applications in RE-SOFT,a reverse engineering software developed by Zhejiang University, showed that the fairing algorithm based on non-uniform B-spline wavelets decomposition can efficiently remove the bad points and improve the quality of the curve.

Abstract:Robust curve design on surface meshes with flexible controls is useful in a wide range of applications but remains challenging. Most existing methods fall into one of the two strategies: one is to discretize a curve into a polyline, which is then optimized, and the other is to directly design smooth splines on meshes. While the former approach usually needs a sufficiently dense sampling of curve points, which is computational costly, the latter approach relaxes the sampling requirement but suffers from the lack of user control. To tackle these problems, we proposed a variational method for designing feature-aware B-spline curves on surface meshes. Given the recent advances in shell space construction methods, we could relax the B-spline curve inside a simplified shell mesh and evaluate its distance to the surface using equipped bijective mapping. To effectively minimize the distance between the curve and the surface, with additional controls in the form of both internal and external constraints, we applied the interior point method and adaptively inserted knots of the spline to increase its freedom and adjust the weighting during the iterations. When the curve is close enough to the surface, it can be efficiently sampled at any resolution and robustly projected to the surface. Experiments show that our method is more robust, has higher flexibility, and generates smoother results than existing methods.

Abstract:Pseudo-splines of type I were introduced in [I. Daubechies, B. Han, A. Ron, Z. Shen, Framelets: MRA-based constructions of wavelet frames, Appl. Comput. Harmon. Anal. 14 (2003) 1–46] and [Selenick, Smooth wavelet tight frames with zero moments, Appl. Comput. Harmon. Anal. 10 (2000) 163–181] and type II were introduced in [B. Dong, Z. Shen, Pseudo-splines, wavelets and framelets, Appl. Comput. Harmon. Anal. 22 (2007) 78–104]. Both types of pseudo-splines provide a rich family of refinable functions with B-splines, interpolatory refinable functions and refinable functions with orthonormal shifts as special examples. In [B. Dong, Z. Shen, Pseudo-splines, wavelets and framelets, Appl. Comput. Harmon. Anal. 22 (2007) 78–104], Dong and Shen gave a regularity analysis of pseudo-splines of both types. Applied and Computational Harmonic Analysis

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate a new family of refinable functions named pseudo box splines which generalize univariate pseudo-splines to the multivariate setting. The properties of pseudo box splines including stability and regularity are analyzed. Furthermore, we obtain a series of compactly supported C∞ refinable functions by applying nonstationary cascade algorithms to the masks of pseudo box splines. Using these functions, we construct compactly supported nonstationary C∞ tight wavelet frames in L2(Rs) with the spectral frame approximation order.
NURBS Surface Fairing Based on Non-uniform B-spline Multi-resolution Wavelet Decomposition

Abstract:Non-uniform B-spline multi-resolution wavelet decomposition was applied to the fairing of NURBS surface. The global fairing direction was determined by global faring measure of two parametrical directions, and then the global fairing of surface was realized through global decomposition of surface. Local fairing of surface was realized by minimal region algorithm, in which the bad knot and fairing direction was determined by local fairing measure of knot pair. A region fairing method was proposed, in which the fairing region was specified by the user interactively. The problem of position and tangent preserving of end point was solved by adding constraints. The robustness of wavelet decomposition and possible singularity were presented. The application result in RE-SOFT, a reverse engineering software developed by Zhejiang University, shows that the fairing algorithm based on non-uniform B-spline wavelets decomposition can efficiently remove the bad points on surface and improve quality of the surface.
Semi-Stationary Push-Back Subdivision Schemes

Abstract:To overcome the shortages of classic subdivision schemes, a kind of novel semi-stationary push subdivision schemes are proposed. Combined with the advantage of unified subdivision framework, semi-stationary control and push-back operator, the schemes in curve and surface case are given based on subdivision operator. And several limit properties are also discussed. These methods can generate a series of blending shapes between approximation and interpolation of the initial control mesh. In surface case, direction tags are introduced to solve the fairness problem. The extensible schemes based on symbol representation are much useful in computer animation and industrial prototype design application.

Abstract:The principles and methods of realizing wavelet multiresolution representation of uniform cubic B-spline curves and surfaces were introduced. For region of interest and background region a method was proposed, which is used to represent the uniform B-spline surfaces by different resolution. The practical example shows that the display speed of surfaces can be greatly improved by this method and it is extremely useful for storage or multiresolution editing of surfaces.

Abstract:We present a semi-stationary loop subdivision scheme based on the extension of box-spline. We deduce the eigenvalues of 2-neighbors subdivision matrix of the scheme, and prove that the subdivision surface is convergent, and has property of tangent plane continuity. Compared with the conventional loop subdivision method, as the subdivision matrix can update regularly with the iteration procedure, ours has stronger capability of modeling.

Abstract:In this paper we propose a new wavelet scheme for Loop subdivision surfaces. The main idea enabling our wavelet construction is to extend the subdivision rules to be invertible, thus executing each inverse subdivision step in the reverse order makes up the wavelet decomposition rule. As apposed to other existing wavelet schemes for Loop surfaces, which require solving a global sparse linear system in the wavelet analysis process, our wavelet scheme provides efficient (linear time and fully in-place) computations for both forward and backward wavelet transforms. This characteristic makes our wavelet scheme extremely suitable for applications in which the speed for wavelet decomposition is critical. We also describe our strategies for optimizing free parameters in the extended subdivision steps, which are important to the performance of the final wavelet transform. Our method has been proven to be effective, as demonstrated by a number of examples.
Blending Subdivision Curves and Their Applications

Abstract:This paper designs two families of blending subdivisions based on known approximative subdivisions. One is a binary blending subdivision based on the cubic B-splines, the other is a ternary blending subdivision based on the ternary 3-point subdivision. The approach provides a way to control the length of generated curves by introducing a blending parameter. Continuity analysis based on generating functions demonstrates that two families of blending subdivisions are C2 continuous in most cases. As an application, a length-preserving subdivision strategy is also proposed in the paper.

Abstract:In order to achieve a better control of deformations and a more accurate modeling, this paper first introduces a new concept called “reference index of modeling (RIOM)” by wavelet technology. Next, according to RIOM, a quantitative modeling algorithm of B-spline curves is presented. Compared with the traditional modeling methods, the present algorithm employs the RIOM as the objective function and the objective shape can be evaluated quantitatively by the value of the RIOM based objective function. Meanwhile, the new algorithm can preserve the overall shapes during the deformation. Several examples are given to demonstrate the effectiveness of this approach.

A New Shape-Coding Algorithm by Using Wavelet Transform

Abstract:In this paper, we propose a new shape-coding algorithm called wavelet-based shape coding (WBSC). Performing wavelet transform on the orientation of original planar curve gives the corners called corner-1 points and end of arcs that belong to the original curve. Each arc is represented by a broken line and the corners called corner-2 points of the broken line are extracted. A polygonal approximation of a contour is an ordered list of corner-1 points, ends of arcs and corner-2 points which are extracted by using the above algorithm. All of the points are called polygonal vertices which will be compressed by our adaptive arithmetic encoding. Experimental results show that our method reduces code bits by about 26% compared with the context-based arithmetic encoding (CAE) of MPEG-4, and the subjective quality of the reconstructed shape is better than that of CAE at the same Dn.
Efficient Wavelet Construction with Catmull–Clark Subdivision

Abstract:This paper presents an efficient biorthogonal wavelet construction with the generalized Catmull–Clark subdivision based on the lifting scheme. The subdivision wavelet construction scheme is applicable to all variants of Catmull–Clark subdivision, so it is more universal than the previous wavelet construction for the generalized bicubic B-spline subdivision. Because the analysis and synthesis algorithms of the wavelets are composed of a series of local and in-place lifting operations, they can be performed in linear time. The experiments have demonstrated the stability of the proposed wavelet analysis based on the ordinary Catmull–Clark subdivision. Moreover, the resulting Catmull–Clark subdivision wavelets have better fitting quality than the generalized bicubic B-spline subdivision wavelets at a similar computation cost.
Wavelet Based Surface Decomposition with Boundary Continuity

Abstract:For the traditional wavelet based surface decomposition, it is difficult to preserve the boundary continuity with adjacent surfaces. Aiming at this problem, this paper proposes a new algorithm for wavelet based surface decomposition while preserving the boundary continuity. First, a B-spline surface is divided into a boundary part and a non-boundary part, and then the non-boundary one is decomposed into a scale part and a wavelet part by wavelet transform. Finally, the T-spline is utilized to reconstruct the boundary one and the scale one. Compared to the traditional wavelet based surface decomposition method, in the new approach the result surface is a T-spline which can preserve the boundary continuity with adjacent surfaces. Several examples and results are given to demonstrate the effectiveness of this approach.
