Abstract:Driven by carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals and market demand, China’s new energy vehicles have entered a stage of rapid development, which has led to significant changes in the industry of power battery cathode materials and its market pattern. Abstract:Lithium-ion secondary batteries, boasting such merits as high capacity, long cycle life, environmental-friendliness and high safety, have been widely applied to such portable electronic devices as mobile phones and notebook computers. Along with the technological development, lithium-ion secondary batteries are also seeing great application prospect with electric vehicles (EV) and energy storage, which is to exert a profound influence on people's life in the future. The recent years have witnessed continuous improvement on the capacity and cycling performance of lithium-ion batteries, and the market is to see the launching of lighter, thinner and smaller lithium-ion batteries with higher capacity and lower cost. The authors deal with the historical and latest development of lithium-ion battery as well as the current applications.

Abstract:With the advent of more stringent regulations related to emissions,energy resource constraints and financial crisis,the world has sparked a global race to electrify transportation.Battery is not only a key component of electric vehicles,but also plays a prominent role as the joint of power and automotive industry.This paper reviews improvements made in the design and manufacture of batteries as well as development of electric vehicles during the past decades.State of the art for three important battery technologies in EV application,namely lead-acid battery,NiMH battery and lithium-ion battery,as well as their current application are presented;and in the viewpoints of chemical propoties of the cell and the performances of commercial pack for EV,detailed comparative analyses in technology and economy are performed.The application outlook of EV battery,its development trend in future and new cell technologies being developed are prospected,and it is pointed out that the power sector of China should pay special attentions to the development of EV battery technology,analyze the influences of EV charging load on power grid and take steps in time.

Abstract:Adopting EVs has been widely recognized as an efficient way to alleviate future climate change. Nonetheless, the large number of spent LiBs associated with EVs is becoming a huge concern from both environmental and energy perspectives. This review summarizes the three most popular LiB recycling technologies, the current LiB recycling market trend, and global recycling magnates’ industrial dynamics regarding this subject. We mainly focus on reviewing hydrometallurgical and direct recycling technologies to discuss the advancement of those recycling technologies and their future commercialization pathway.

Abstract:Energy plays an important role in human society. With the development of science and technology, the increasing demand for new energy like electric energy cannot be ignored. The battery is the key component of electric vehicles which are the centers of future development. Lithium-ion batteries have great advantages in electric vehicle applications for their excellent performance. We need to find ways to improve lithium-ion batteries to promote the development of electric vehicles fundamentally. The high specific energy, low self-discharge, good cycling performance, no memory effect, and other advantages lead to the excellent performance of lithium-ion batteries. This paper reviews the unique merits of lithium-ion batteries compared with other important battery technologies in electric vehicle application in three main aspects and describes some methods to enhance the performance of lithium-ion batteries by improving the anode, cathode, and electrolyte, respectively. For instance, we can use LiNi 1-x-y Co x Mn y O 2 (NCM) materials as cathode, silicon-based materials as anode with composite materials like FeOOH@rGO and SiNP@NC add more silicon in the composite anode structure and silicon nanowire anode to improve its mechanical stability. Also, with an example of their employment in the BMW i3 94 Ah vehicles, the application outlook of lithium-ion batteries in electric vehicles and their development trend in the future have been prospected. Although electric vehicles are becoming the ideal next-generation vehicles with the increasing environmental friendliness, the battery technology, such as its safety problem and the manufacturing cost, etc., remains a big challenge in the development of lithium-ion batteries in electric vehicles.

Abstract:This chapter covers the basic concept, development status, and development trends of lithium-ion batteries. The state of charge (SOC), state of health (SOH), state of power (SOP), state of energy (SOE), and service life are described from different aspects, which makes the research of lithium-ion batteries more standardized and comprehensive. This chapter also analyzes the basic parameters of lithium-ion batteries, such as terminal voltage, electromotive force, capacity, internal resistance, and the core elements of battery state, such as SOC, depth of discharge (DOD), cycle life, and self-discharge rate. The lithium-ion battery industry is an important direction of global high-tech development now. Because the lithium-ion battery has good electrochemical stability, large energy density, long battery life, and maintenance-free characteristics, it is widely used in electric vehicles and a variety of energy storage equipment. With the electric vehicles, lithium-ion batteries are gradually moving toward the market, so the usage and consumption of lithium resources in the world have increased significantly, resulting in the huge and broad development prospects of the industrial chain.

Abstract:Studies and development of electrolytes in recent years were summarized. It is main introducing how to improve performance of liquid electrolytes and solid electrolytes. The electrochemical stability of liquid electrolytes was improved mainly ,and, the ionic conductivity, electrochemical stability and mechanical stability of solid are improved mainly. Although for the lithium-ion cells, its performances depend on electrodes material, only the good performance electrolytesfitting electrodes can optimize and improve its performances. So performances of electrolytes greatly affect performances of the lithium ion cells.

Abstract:Major countries and automobile manufacturers in the world jointly promote the transformation of automobile energy and boost the development of electric vehicles. As the most widely used power battery, the lithium-ion power battery comes under the spotlight. The progress of lithium iron phosphate batteries and ternary lithium batteries has given rise to the hope of transformation. And the breakthrough of solidstate batteries has laid a solid foundation for future highperformance batteries. This paper reviews and analyzes the strengths and weaknesses of three power batteries, and evaluates their modifications, application, and current situation. It can be concluded that ternary lithium batteries cannot replace lithium iron phosphate batteries and solid-state batteries temporarily cannot be widely produced and applied.

Abstract:Electric Vehicle (EV) sales and adoption have seen a significant growth in recent years, thanks to advancements and cost reduction in lithium-ion battery technology, attractive performance of EVs, governments' incentives, and the push to reduce greenhouse gases and pollutants. In this article, we will explore the progress in lithium-ion batteries and their future potential in terms of energy density, life, safety, and extreme fast charge. We will also discuss material sourcing, supply chain, and end-of-life-cycle management as they have become important considerations in the ecosystem of batteries for the sustained growth and adoption of EVs. With significant government and private sector investments in research and development, processing, and manufacturing and advances in anodes (lithium and silicon), cathodes (high nickel), designs, supply chain development, and the circularity of lithium-ion batteries, lithium-based batteries are on track to make EVs mainstream, addressing climate concerns of fossil-fueled vehicles.

Abstract:Developing new energy vehicles has been a worldwide consensus, and developing new energy vehicles characterized by pure electric drive has been China's national strategy. After more than 20 years of high-quality development of China's electric vehicles (EVs), a technological R & D layout of “Three Verticals and Three Horizontals” has been created, and technological advantages have been accumulated. As a result, China's new energy vehicle market has ranked first in the world since 2015. To systematically solve the key problems of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) such as “driving range anxiety, long battery charging time, and driving safety hazards”, China took the lead in putting forward a “system engineering-based technology system architecture for BEVs” and clarifying its connotation. This paper analyzes the research status and progress of the three core components of this architecture, namely, “BEV platform, charging/swapping station, and real-time operation monitoring platform”, and their key technological points. The three major demonstration projects of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, and the intelligent and connected autonomous battery electric bus project are discussed to specify the applications of BEVs in China. The key research directions for upgrading BEV technologies remain to be further improving the vehicle-level all-climate environmental adaptability and all-day safety of BEVs, systematically solving the charging problem of BEVs and improving their application convenience, and safeguarding safety with early warning and implementing active/passive safety protection for the whole life cycle of power batteries on the basis of BEVs' operation big data. BEVs have acquired new technological features such as intelligent and networked technology empowerment, extensive integration of control-by-wire systems, a platform of chassis hardware, and modularization of functional software.
Research Progress and Pilot Application of Lithium-Ion Capacitor

Abstract:Lithium-ion capacitor (LIC), which combines the high power density of electric double-layer capacitors (EDLC) and high energy density of lithium-ion battery (LIB), vastly suiting the condition demand of electric city bus, energy-saving elevators and the tram, has attracted tremendous interests of researchers from both research institutes and enterprises. Here in this paper,the current advances containing the operating principle, electrode material system and the anode pre-doping technique of LIC are stated concisely. In addition, the self-developed novel LIC, reaching 20 Wh·kg-1 or higher for energy density, is introduced as the power supply of pure electric city bus pilot application. The running case as a result evidences that LIC has bright prospect when used for fixed-line electric city bus:①more energy storing, which fulfills the whole course less than 20 km after charging once at the original station;②advanced communication management system, which could monitor the working condition of LIC timely to prognosis the malfunction, thus improving safety;③ progressive thermal management system, that the highest temperature of LIC cell is only 3~4℃ higher than that of the ambient environment can withstand the test of sizzler.

Abstract:With the rapid development of industry, human beings are facing environmental pollution and energy crises. These crises have affected the development of science and technology, and this can seriously influence human survival. In this case, new energy technologies have received attention and strong support from various countries. Of these, the lithium-ion battery has outstanding light-weight advantages, which have been applied to various fields of society. With the lithium-ion battery’s widespread application, safety problems often appear, making the application and maintenance a research hotspot of concern. This chapter briefly introduces the working principle, application fields, and development trends of lithium-ion batteries. Combined with the development history of batteries, the energy storage technology is analyzed. Then, the battery working mechanism is investigated, including characteristic analysis, components, working principle, construction, and charge-discharge strategies. As for its chemistry characteristics, different material batteries are compared together with the solid-state battery so that the comparative battery types are analyzed. In the battery characteristic analysis, the mathematical description is conducted for its power application, such as capacity, open-circuit voltage, internal resistance, Coulombic efficiency, aging behavior, calendar aging, and cyclic charge-discharge aging. The system-state estimation is conducted for its safety protection and lifetime guarantee.
