Abstract:Abstract. On June 10, 2019, the employment report for Chinese college students was released. Overall, the employment rate of college students in the 2018 session was 91.5 %. However, the employment of female college students in China is not optimistic. The main reasons are professional gender division, weak diplomas, gender discrimination in the workplace, and being tied to traditional gender concepts. It is necessary to require schools, the society, and the China government in particular to make active efforts to adhere to the principle of differential treatment. Focus on or prioritize the disadvantage of women, and adjust policies or actions to best benefit women and best reflect the equality between men and women. In addition, female college students should also change the concept of employment, actively go to the grassroots employment, entrepreneurship.

Abstract:College students are engineers of national development and construction, and they are the future and hope of China. With the expansion of colleges and universities across the country, the number of college graduates has increased year by year recently, and “employment difficulties” among college students ha ve become increasingly prominent in recent years. The difficulties of employment affect not only the stable development of society, but also the happy lives of the people which have drawn great attention from society. The difficulty of employment has also become a problem that the country must solve now. China has issued a number of policies in response to this problem. Colleges and universities have also focused on cultivating social talents and expanding the employment market for college students in accordance with social and market needs. This article elaborates the employment status of college students at home and abroad, analyzes the problems faced by college students in China, and puts forward countermeasures and suggestions for promoting college students’ employment in China, aiming at helping college students solve the employment difficulties.

Abstract:Women can play a pivotal role in the progress and sustainability of the world if they are empowered through education and employment opportunities in Science, technology, innovation and through changing the social stereotypes that restrain them in certain workplaces. In the literature, few recently published studies exist that document the challenges faced by female scientists in their workplaces. The purpose of this study was to understand the challenges and coping strategies faced by female scientists around the world today, in order to contribute to their improved performance. A multi-centre electronic cross-sectional survey across 55 countries was conducted to profile female scientists and to identify the challenges that they experience throughout their career as well as the coping mechanisms that they use to overcome the barriers. A total of 263 female scientists from different countries across the world participated in our study and most participants were from the South East Asian Region. Most female scientists in our study belong to the middle and junior level career category and earning around 1250 USD per month. Most of the scientists reported availability of maternity leave at their workplace but less than a third reported presence of a creche at work. Workplace sexual harassment was reported by 24% of the study population. Work related stress (71.5%) and work life imbalance (46%) are also major challenges faced by female scientists. Self-confidence, dedication and hard work are the most commonly adopted coping strategy. Flexible work timings, woman-friendly management policies, fair appraisal and mentorship appear to reduce the work-related stress and improve work-life balance among female scientists. In conclusion, female scientists face numerous challenges, which can greatly affect both their individual and career growth. Intrinsic (personal) and extrinsic (institutional) factors are important for improving female scientists' wellbeing and productivity.

Abstract:The purpose of this paper is to discuss the current situation of student employment and countermeasures in Chinese higher vocational colleges and universities. By analyzing the current situation, it is found that students of higher vocational colleges and universities are facing many challenges in the process of employment, including the severe form of employment rate, academic bias, unbalanced quality of education, lack of career planning and employment skills, and changes in the structure of talent demand. The specific reasons are as follows: imbalance of educational resources, unreasonable employment concepts, industry restructuring, skill matching problems, and lack of practical experience. Aiming at these status quo problems and reasons, this paper puts forward some countermeasures, including designing a good cultivation system at the school level, strengthening employment guidance services, carrying out entrepreneurship services, carrying out the matching of the talent market, deepening the co-operation between schools and enterprises, and strengthening the support of the government, and so on. By implementing these countermeasures, it is hoped that the employment competitiveness of students in higher vocational colleges and universities can be improved and their successful employment promoted.

Abstract:A questionnaire to female scientists in 31 provinces in China shows that they are different in work satisfaction.The majority love their job.However,female scientists below the age 30 to 45,BS holders,working in west China,and engaged in professions other than teaching and medicine,are low in work satisfaction.This is useful information for improving the management of female scientists.

Abstract:From a global perspective, discrimination against women in employment is a common problem, which is caused by a series of reasons such as differences in the physiological structure of men and women. Improving women's labor participation rate and allowing them to enter the labor market more freely and equally will be beneficial for improving women's overall social status and promoting harmonious economic and social development. Starting from the current situation of women's employment, this article analyzes the specific manifestations of discrimination against women in the employment market, and deeply analyzes the causes of discrimination against women in employment. Drawing on the relevant experience of developed countries, suggestions and reflections are proposed for China to promote women's equal participation in labor and employment, and to address issues such as gender discrimination in employment.

Abstract:Gender disparities in science and engineering majors in Chinese universities have received increasing attention from researchers and educators in China in recent years. Using data from a national survey of college students who graduated in 2005, this study documents gender disparities in enrollment and academic performance in science and engineering majors, and explores gender disparities in initial employment experiences of science and engineering graduates. It finds that females lag far behind males in enrollment in science and engineering majors overall. However, females actually are more represented than males in some majors such as mathematics and chemistry though the reverse is true for other science and engineering majors. Also, in science and engineering majors, females perform better than males in both general course grades and in English competency tests. Male science and engineering graduates have a clear advantage over their female counterparts in initial employment after graduation: they have a high employment rate, a higher starting salary, and are more likely to be employed in such jobs as business management and technical specialist. The male advantage in employment rate and starting salary persists even after controlling for other factors.

Abstract:IntroductionThe under representation of women in STEM fields is a persistent issue worldwide. In China, although women have made significant progress in pursuing STEM degrees in recent years, they continue to face challenges in the workforce. Given the importance of the self-perceived employability (SPE) of female STEM students in China, the research questions are: How do curriculum experience, extracurricular experience, and faculty supportive activities affect the SPE of female STEM students in Chinese universities? To what extent does university stratification affect the relationship between college experience and female STEM students' SPE?MethodsWe analyzed the 2018 data of the Chinese College Student Survey (CCSS) consisting of a sample of 59,066 students, and six focus group interviews.ResultsThe findings suggest that curriculum experience, extracurricular experience and faculty supportive activities have a positive impact on the SPE of female students, but the gender gap in SPE is still valid as reflected by the fact that women have lower SPE than men in each tier of universities and that men benefit more in terms of the increase in SPE from most types of college activities and support except academic ones.DiscussionThis study reveals that the different tiers of universities in China affect female students' SPE in different ways, and provides valuable evidence for academic as well as university administrators and policymakers regarding how college experience affect women and how university stratification can affect female students' college experience and their career expectations and paths.

Gender Difference in the Education and Employment of Science & Engineering Students in HEIs

Abstract:Using university students’ employment survey data from Institute of Economics of Education, Peking University, we studied the gender difference in education and employment of science engineering students in China’s HEIs. The study found the extreme high portion of male students among all science engineering students contributed to the unusual gender difference in higher education opportunity; the higher education opportunity difference for students from urban areas remains relatively small, while large for students from rural areas; female science engineering students show a better academic performance than their male counterparts at school, while their initial salary dwarf dramatically than their male counterparts after graduation. Besides, the research found gender, subject, school academic performance and even performance in National College Entrance Examination all exert obvious influence on the employment of science engineering graduates.
