Abstract:Rare Higgs decays into a pair of heavy vector quarkonia, h -> VV (V = J/Psi, Upsilon etc.), have been investigated in the standard model. Different from the past literature in which these decays are thought to be only dominated by the longitudinally polarized final states, we also include the transitions, which proceed through h -> gamma*gamma*/h -> V gamma*, followed by gamma* -> V. The final vector quarkonia via these ways are dominantly transversely polarized. Our calculation however shows that these transitions could lead to significant contributions to the decay rate, especially for the charmonium final states. The total branching ratios of these processes are predicted to be around 10(-10), far below the current experimental upper bounds. Hopefully, experimental studies of these very rare decays in future high-precision experimental facilities might be interesting both to test the standard model and to look for new physics scenarios. H→bs¯ Decay and Its Implication for the Vectorlike Singlet Fermion Model

Abstract:The vectorlike quark model is one of the extensions of the standard model (SM) of particle physics. The simplest version of this model introduces a vectorlike singlet quark which can mix with SM quarks and give rise to new contributions to the flavor-changing decays of the Higgs boson. In this work we first present a systematic analysis of the branching ratios of the decays H→bs¯,bd¯ at leading order in the standard model. Our results show that it is challenging to observe these two modes because of their small branching ratios. Then augmenting the SM with a vectorlike singlet top quark, assuming the top partner only mixes with the top quark, complete one-loop contributions are taken into account in the amplitudes. Further results indicate that the branching ratios of the decays H→bs¯,bd¯ are sensitive to the mass of the top partner MT and the mixing effects characterized by sinθL. By tuning the values of MT and sinθL, the branching ratios may rise to a level accessible to LHC experiments. Combined with the branching ratios obtained from a probabilistic model, the allowed areas in the MT−sinθL plane are displayed. Tagging efficiencies and feasibility for detecting H→bs¯ are specifically discussed and we conclude that with large statistics it is promising to discover the H→bs¯ decay at the LHC. Abstract:We investigate the potential to detect Higgs boson decays to four bottom quarks through a pair of pseudoscalars, a final state that is predicted by many theories beyond the Standard Model. For the first time, the signal sensitivity is evaluated for the final state using the vector boson fusion (VBF) production with and without an associated photon, for the Higgs at mH=125 GeV , at hadron colliders. The signal significance is 0.5σ to 6σ , depending on the pseudoscalar mass ma , when setting the Higgs decay branching ratio to unity, using an integrated luminosity of 150 fb−1 at s=13 TeV . This corresponds to an upper limit of 0.3, on the Higgs branching ratio to four bottom quarks, with a nonobservation of the decay. Abstract:The exclusive decay of the Higgs boson to a vector meson (J/ψ or Υ(1S)) and Z boson is studied in this work. The decay amplitudes are separated into two parts in a gauge invariant manner. The first part comes from the direct coupling of the Higgs boson to the charm (bottom) quark and the other from the HZZ* or the loop-induced HZγ* vertexes in the standard model. While the branching ratios from the direct channel are much smaller than those of the indirect channel, their interference terms give nontrivial contributions. We further calculate the QCD radiative corrections to both channels, which reduce the total branching ratios by around 20% for both (J/ψ or Υ(1S)) production. Our results provide a possible chance to check the SM predictions of the Hc c ¯ ( Hb b ¯ ) coupling and to seek for hints of new physics at the High Luminosity LHC or future hadron colliders.

Abstract:A recent HyperCP observation of three events in the decay Sigma(+)-> p mu(+)mu(-) is suggestive of a new particle with mass 214.3 MeV. In order to confront models that contain a light Higgs boson with this observation, it is necessary to know the Higgs production rate in hyperon decay. The contribution to this rate from penguinlike two-quark operators has been considered before and found to be too large. We point out that there are additional four-quark contributions to this rate that could be comparable in size to the two-quark contributions, and that could bring the total rate to the observed level in some models. To this effect we implement the low-energy theorems that dictate the couplings of light Higgs bosons to hyperons at leading order in chiral perturbation theory. We consider the cases of scalar and pseudoscalar Higgs bosons in the standard model and in its two-Higgs-doublet extensions to illustrate the challenges posed by existing experimental constraints and suggest possible avenues for models to satisfy them.

Abstract:The sensitivity of the ATLAS experiment to low mass SM Higgs produced via Vector Boson Fusion mechanism with $H\to \gamma\gamma$ is invest igated. A cut based event selection has been chosen to optimize the expected signal significance with this decay mode. A signal significance of 2. 2$ \sigma$ may be achieved for $M_H=130 \gev$ with 30 fb$^{-1}$ of accumulated luminosity.

Abstract:We examine Higgs boson production and decay in heavy-ion collisions at the LHC and future colliders. Owing to the long lifetime of the Higgs boson, its hadronic decays may experience little or no screening from the hot and dense quark-gluon plasma, whereas jets from hard scattering processes and from decays of the electroweak gauge bosons and the top quark suffer significant energy loss. This distinction can lead to enhanced signal to background ratios in hadronic decay channels and thus, for example, provide alternative ways to probe the Yukawa coupling of the Higgs boson to the bottom quark and its lifetime.

Abstract:In extensions of the Standard Model (SM) of particle physics a light scalar from a hidden sector can interact with known particles via mixing with the SM Higgs boson. If the scalar mass is of GeV scale, this coupling induces the scalar decay into light hadrons, that saturates the scalar width. Searches for the light scalars are performed in many ongoing experiments and planned for the next generation projects. Applying dispersion relations changes the leading order estimate of the scalar decay rate into pions by a factor of about a hundred indicating the strong final state interaction. This subtlety for about thirty years prevented any reliable inference of the model parameters from experimental data. In this letter we use the gravitational form factor for neutral pion extracted from analysis of $\gamma^*\gamma\to\pi^0\pi^0$ processes to estimate the quark contribution to scalar decay into two pions. We find a factor of two uncertainty in this estimate and argue that the possible gluon contribution is of the same order. The decay rate to pions smoothly matches that to gluons dominating for heavier scalars. With this finding we refine sensitivities of future projects to the scalar-Higgs mixing. The accuracy in the calculations can be further improved by performing similar analysis of $\gamma^*\gamma\to K K$ and $\gamma^*\gamma\to\eta\eta$ processes and possibly decays like $J/\psi\to\gamma+\pi\pi$.

On the Importance of Three-Body Decays of Vector-Like Quarks

Abstract:It is a common feature of vector-like extensions of the electroweak sector to have near degenerate states, such as electroweak doublets. In simplified models, it is usually assumed that these have decay widths saturated by two-body channels. As a consequence, experimental searches can be done focusing on only one of the states of the doublet. Taking as an example case the light exotic electroweak doublet present in the Minimal Composite Higgs Model, we show that including three-body decays in the pair production process makes this separation unfeasible, since both states of the doublet will be present and contribute significantly to the signal. In addition, by recasting present searches in multileptonic channels, with a simplified cut-and-count analysis, a relevant increase in discovery reach or exclusion potential is obtained; this indeed motivates a more detailed analysis. This study shows how an inclusive search strategy, taking into account both the near degeneracy and the presence of three-body decays, will have greater discovery power and be more natural from a model building perspective.

Abstract:In the framework of BLMSSM, the Higgs decays ${h}^{0}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}Z\ensuremath{\gamma}$ and ${h}^{0}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{m}_{V}Z$ are studied where ${m}_{V}$ represents a vector meson ($\ensuremath{\rho},\ensuremath{\omega},\ensuremath{\phi},J/\ensuremath{\psi},\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Upsilon}}$, etc.). Corrections to the $CP$-even and $CP$-odd ${h}^{0}\ensuremath{\gamma}Z$ couplings occur via loop diagrams where new particles are involved. Actually both of them obviously influence the decay rates of ${h}^{0}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}Z\ensuremath{\gamma}$ and ${h}^{0}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{m}_{V}Z$. Concretely, our obtained numerical result shows that the decay width of ${h}^{0}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}Z\ensuremath{\gamma}$ can be 1.3 times larger than the prediction of the Standard Model (SM). For the light mesons ($\ensuremath{\rho}$, $\ensuremath{\omega}$), the corrections to ${h}^{0}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{m}_{V}Z$ are within 15%--20%, still consistent with the SM results. The results of this work would encourage a detection on ${h}^{0}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}Z\ensuremath{\gamma}$ at LHC for exploring new physics beyond SM.
Hadronic Decays of a Higgs-mixed Scalar

Abstract:One of the portals to new physics is a light scalar coupled to the Standard Model (SM) Higgs. In this paper we focus on hadronic decays of such a scalar in the regime where QCD dynamics is nonperturbative, resulting, e.g., in decays to pairs of pions or kaons, while also allowing for scalar couplings to the SM fermions to deviate from the Higgs-mixed light scalar limit. Representations of the corresponding form factors can be obtained using dispersive techniques, however, several sources of uncertainty affect the final results. We reexamine these decays, paying special attention to the quantification of uncertainties. For the light Higgs-mixed scalar scenario, we compare our results with previous works. For a general set of couplings of the light scalar to Standard Model fields, we provide a public code, {\tt hipsofcobra}, to compute the decay widths.

Prospects for detecting the rare heavy Higgs decay $H\to hγγ$ at the LHC

Abstract:We study the decay of a heavy CP-even neutral Higgs into an on-shell Standard Model-like Higgs boson and two photons, $H\to h\gamma\gamma$, in the two-Higgs doublet model. We argue that the decay channel $H\to h\gamma\gamma$, followed by the decay of the Standard Model Higgs $h\rightarrow b\bar b$, could be observed at the 5$\sigma$ level at the High-Luminosity LHC for masses of the heavy Higgs up to 900 GeV for the type-II, 500 GeV for the Lepton Specific and the Flipped 2HDMs, and at 3 sigmas for the type-I, for masses up to 600 GeV. We also discuss the possible role of the decay $H\to h\gamma\gamma$ in discriminating among 2HDMs.

Abstract:At the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), ATLAS and CMS collaborations observed various decay modes of the light charged Higgs bosons produced by top (anti)quark decays. In this paper, we are interested in the subsequent decay of the light charged Higgs boson into a charm and a strange quark-antiquark pair and into a tau and a tau-neutrino pair, separately, in the context of the Georgi-Machacek model, which offers a large triplet vacuum expectation value (vev) preserving custodial symmetry. We show that these experimental observations constrain the triplet vev from above. We explore the model parameter space consistent with the theoretical constraints, the latest Higgs data and the experimental data for light charged Higgs decaying to $cs$ and $\tau\nu_{\tau}$.

Higgs Boson Decay into Four Bottom Quarks in the SM and Beyond

Abstract:We present predictions for the Higgs boson decay into four bottom quarks in the standard model and via light exotic scalars retaining full bottom-quark mass dependence. In the SM the decay can be induced either by the Yukawa couplings of bottom quarks and top quarks or the electroweak couplings. We calculate the partial decay width and various differential distributions up to next-to-leading order in QCD. We find large QCD corrections for decay via Yukawa couplings, as large as 90% for the partial decay width, and reduced scale variations. The results of this paper are therefore helpful for the measurement of this multi-jets final state at future Higgs factory of electron-positron colliders. We also propose several observables that can differentiate the SM decay channel and the exotic decay channel and compare their next-to-leading order predictions.

Abstract:Neutral Higgs boson radiative decays of the form h_0, H, A \to f\bar{f}\gamma, in the light fermion limit $m_f->0, are calculated in the two Higgs doublet model at one-loop level. Comparisons with the calculation within the standard model are given, which indicates that these two models are distinguishable in the decay mode fermion-antifermion -photon. Our results show that the concerned process may stand as an implement to identify the Higgs belongings in case there is a intermediate mass Higgs detected.

Abstract:A search is presented for the decay of the 125 GeV Higgs boson (H) to a pair of new light pseudoscalar bosons (a), followed by the prompt decay of each a boson to a bottom quark-antiquark pair, H $\to$ aa $\to$ $\mathrm{b\bar{b}b\bar{b}}$. The analysis is performed using a data sample of proton-proton collisions collected with the CMS detector at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 138 fb$^{-1}$. To reduce the background from standard model processes, the search requires the Higgs boson to be produced in association with a leptonically decaying W or Z boson. The analysis probes the production of new light bosons in a 15 $\lt$ $m_\mathrm{a}$ $\lt$ 60 GeV mass range. Assuming the standard model predictions for the Higgs boson production cross sections for pp $\to$ WH and ZH, model independent upper limits at 95% confidence level are derived for the branching fraction $\mathcal{B}$(H $\to$ aa $\to$ $\mathrm{b\bar{b}b\bar{b}}$). The combined WH and ZH observed upper limit on the branching fraction ranges from 1.10 for $m_\mathrm{a} =$ 20 GeV to 0.36 for $m_\mathrm{a} =$ 60 GeV, complementing other measurements in the $\mu\mu\tau\tau$, $\tau\tau\tau\tau$ and bb$\ell\ell$ ($\ell = $ $\mu$, $\tau$) channels.

Lepton Flavor-Violating Higgs Decays Mediated by Ultralight Gauge Boson

Abstract:We present an analysis of the lepton-flavor violating decay of the Higgs boson mediated by an ultralight gauge boson, $\chi$. Our analysis matches a model generating the lepton flavor-violating interaction $\bar{\ell}_i\ell_j\chi$ at tree level with an effective field theory, safeguarding the $\chi$-boson mass as it tends to zero. By utilizing the upper bounds on $H\to\ell_i \bar\ell_j$ decays from CMS and ATLAS Collaborations, we establish an indirect upper limit on the nonstandard decay $H\to\ell_i \bar\ell_j\chi$. The analysis encompasses various observables such as the lepton energy spectrum, Dalitz plot distribution, and Lepton Charge and Forward-Backward Asymmetries.

Abstract:A search is presented for a heavy resonance decaying into a Z boson and a Higgs (H) boson. The analysis is based on data from proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 138 fb$^{-1}$, recorded with the CMS experiment in the years 2016-2018. Resonance masses between 1.4 and 5 TeV are considered, resulting in large transverse momenta of the Z and H bosons. Final states that result from Z boson decays to pairs of electrons, muons, or neutrinos are considered. The H boson is reconstructed as a single large-radius jet, recoiling against the Z boson. Machine-learning flavour-tagging techniques are employed to identify decays of a Lorentz-boosted H boson into pairs of charm or bottom quarks, or into four quarks via the intermediate H $\to$ WW* and ZZ* decays. The analysis targets H boson decays that were not generally included in previous searches using the H $\to$ $\mathrm{b\bar{b}}$ channel. Compared with previous analyses, the sensitivity for high resonance masses is improved significantly in the channel where at most one b quark is tagged.
