Abstract:According with urban economy's rapid development,there is a common characteristic appearing in many China cities which is speed of urbanization in these cities is growing faster and faster.Then,a number of historical culture cities are rethinking a question what is how to making their conservation more effective in progress of modernization in China.This article takes Hangzhou as an example,first,compares two different conservation methods between Hangzhou and Suzhou;then,finds reasons why Hangzhou cannot conserve its historical cultural resources effectively by using the old city rebuilding conservation method;after that,analyses relationship between economic development and urban space structure;finally,deduces conclusion that conservation of a old city must depends on developing of a new city.With contribution of leisure economy development,the historical cultural city-Hangzhou could achieve a wonderful consequence that is the old city feeds on itself.

Abstract:The rationality of block scale and structure is the guarantee of vitality and humanization quality, facing complex and diverse problems, and the structure reconstruction of urban built-up areas is one of the most difficult challenges in the process of promoting the block system. The traditional planning-construction strategy, as practice in recent years has demonstrated, faces challenges in terms of construction costs, demolition costs, property rights, and jurisprudence. Based on the interaction of the block structure and external space, the study presents a "implant-reconstruction" model. It investigates possibilities of implanting elements and graphically depicts the potential impact of implant-reconstruction using Space Syntax. The findings indicate that the external space implantation mode may actively encourage the construction of small-scale blocks and has benefits in terms of texture respect, low impact, and ease of operation. The simulation and pre-judgment dynamically illustrate the viable path and gives a scientific reference for block alteration.

Abstract:街区尺度的城市形态,是城市规划与设计的核心关注对象,它对城市功能和活动产生重要的作用。而目前的城市形态学研究,往往只关注街区的二维形态。本文基于所获得的中国63个大中城市中心城的335.7万个大规模的三维建筑物数据,将形态类型学的理论方法从二维扩展至三维,提出城市街区形态的三维指标体系,并以此为依据对案例城市中的街区进行分类。根据9类街区形态在城市中的比例,对63个案例城市进行聚类分析,划分出5类城市,并探讨了城市三维形态类型在国土空间上的分布规律。通过街区三维属性的城市形态,能够认识中国城市系统在空间维度的一般规律及其差异性,以及城市空间形态对城市功能和活动的影响。 Street block scale urban form is the key of urban planning and design, which plays an important role in urban functions and activities. At present, the study of urban morphology only focuses on the two-dimensional shape of street blocks. Based on the 3.357 million large-scale three-dimensional building data of 63 medium and large cities in China, this study extends the theoretical method of urban morphological and typology from two-dimensional to three-dimensional, and proposes a three-dimensional index system of urban street block morphology, and categories the street blocks in case cities on this basis. According to the proportion of nine types of street block form in cities, 63 cases of cities were clustered into five types, and the distribution of three-dimensional urban types in China was discussed. With the street block scale three-dimensional attributes of each city, we can understand the spatial general principles and differences of Chinese urban system, as well as the impact of urban spatial form on urban functions and activities, which has important theoretical value.

Abstract:With the rapid development of the historic sites tourism, the development adjacent to the historic sites becomes a new trend in urban construction. In recent years, the blind development of the areas surrounding historic sites and the lack of corresponding design guidelines lead to the damage of environment and atmosphere around the historic sites. Taking the planning and design of the Yuncheng Chishen Temple as an example, this essay discusses the significance and the methods of the spatial view design in building group adjacent to the historic sites. It analyzes the theory and method about spatial view design during the design progress from four aspects, which are the scope of the area surrounding the historic sites, skyline control, view angle control and landscape corridor design. At last, it sums up the basic principles of the planning and design for the building group surrounding the historic sites.
A new quantitative evaluation method of urban skyline based on object-based analysis and constitution theory

Abstract:Environment and Planning B: Urban Analytics and City Science, Ahead of Print. The skyline is a comprehensive display of the morphological characteristics and cultural features of a city, and its quantitative evaluation is remarkable for perceiving the city and assisting in its planning. However, previous studies focused on the overall profile or tall buildings, lacking a perspective that considers the composition of skyline objects. This paper proposes a new quantitative method to evaluate the skyline based on the object-based analysis method and the constitution theory. Firstly, the skyline objects, that is, buildings, vegetation and mountains are extracted by using the object-based image analysis method. Secondly, the buildings are further classified into four classes according to their relative height. Then, two quantitative indicators, namely, richness of the object category variety and complexity of the object category spatial distribution, are proposed by considering the constitution theory. Finally, this method is applied to typical urban skylines in Shanghai, Hong Kong, New York and Vancouver. Results show that the new indicators can effectively represent the differences of city skylines when their profile indicators are relatively similar. The method can quantitatively evaluate the composition and spatial distribution of skyline objects. This paper is expected to provide a new perspective on the study of skyline aesthetics.

Abstract:In the process of conservation and utilization of historical buildings, relevant stakeholders should adapt to the material and spiritual needs of people in the development of urbanization, and continuously explore their technical, economic and cultural values. This will be in line with the regulations that preserving heritage is preserving history, and preserving the cultural lineage of the city. We should pursue both the preservation of buildings and the continuation of their historical and cultural values. Achieving the unity of social, economic and environmental benefits of urban construction and development is already a common consideration in the world. This article analyzes the relevant cases in France, Nanjing, Guangzhou, Beijing and other places, and discusses the path for the protection of historical buildings, the enhancement of their own value and the coordinated development of the city. And analyze its problems and put forward relevant policy recommendations. Historical buildings should use the advantages of the Internet to broadly consolidate social consensus. Unite the government, social capital, and tourism to develop cultural and creative industries, so that the protection of the building itself, cultural heritage, and the activation of tourism functions will develop together.

Abstract:Urban renewal and upgrading is inevitable, and excellent historical districts are cultural carriers that cannot be copied in the process of urban development. The relationship between fashion and history should co-exist. Taking Jianghan Road Pedestrian Street Block as an example, this paper analyzes how to deal with the balance between the old and the new in urban construction, and how to integrate the fresh sense of humanistic fashion into the historical block, and discusses the historical and cultural value, current situation of Jianghan Road Pedestrian Street architecture and the development strategy of its fashion block. By providing information collected through investigation and reading literature, we can conclude and infer its development direction and public will, and then discuss the gradual renewal direction of historical districts in turn. Taking it as an example, this paper preliminarily explains the important role and significance of historical and cultural blocks in enriching people's living environment and spiritual world.

Abstract:In the past 40 years, China has undergone a rapid urbanization process which has led to a significant contradiction between the desire to develop modern urban spaces and the need to protect historic urban sites. Urban construction has brought not only the destruction of the physical space of the historic urban sites, but also the fragmentation of the natural landscape and its structural disconnection to the historic urban landscape. Ancient Chinese planners had their own thoughts regarding urban construction and the specific patterns of the urban landscape. The urban landscape of Chinese historic cities focuses predominantly on the structural relationship to its neighborhood. This paper aims to explore the value and character of the historic landscape of the ancient city, finding the key causes of its decline in the process of urbanization. The World Cultural Heritage city Pingyao is taken as a case study. Firstly, an analysis of its historical spatial structure and urban planning ideas of the ancient city of Pingyao using ancient maps and historical documents is presented. Then, a quantitative analysis of the urban space expansion in Pingyao city from 1989 to 2016 is conducted and its land use structure further analyzed. Additionally, four editions of the urban master plan in Pingyao have comprehensively shown that modern urban construction and planning tend to focus more on urban economic functions and social needs. In contrast, ancient urban planning relied on the spatial connection between urban space and its natural environment to construct a higher urban cultural connotation. As a result, the different development mode between modern urbanization and construction of ancient cities could be the key reason for the decline of spatial structure and landscape fragmentation of historical cities in China. With respect to the experience and thoughts of Pingyao’s ancient urban planning and construction, technical ideas and suggestions are put forward as reference in future spatial planning for Pingyao’s urban development and cultural protection. Our findings have been incorporated into the relevant sections of the spatial planning of Pingyao.

Research on Renewal Strategy of Historical and Cultural Blocks from the Perspective of Tourist Perception

Abstract:As a special part of the city, historic district is a unique scarce resource, which combines various functions and cultural memory. However, looking at the protection of historical and cultural blocks in our country, its transformation mode is either to carry out demolition and reconstruction, or to be in a rigid static protection. How to explore a sustainable development road that balances development and protection is very important for historical and cultural blocks. From the perspective of tourists' perception, through qualitative research and comparative study on tourists' online comment text, the change of tourists' perception of the study area is obtained, which provides a new way for evaluating the renewal strategy of historical and cultural blocks. The findings are as follows: (1) Tourists' perception of historical and cultural blocks mainly includes the landscape style of the blocks, the commercial form of the blocks, the traffic environment and the cultural atmosphere of the blocks. (2) The reason for the difference in tourists' perception lies in the value orientation and implementation effect of the renewal strategy. (3) The development dilemma of Nanluoguxiang lies in the low quality of commercial forms within the block, the high traffic pressure within the block and the high degree of homogeneity of entrepreneurial forms. Throughout the renewal process of historical and cultural blocks, it can be said to be a microcosm of urban renewal to some extent.
