Abstract:Microbial flocculant was a kind of natural macro-molecular flocculants.It had the properties of innocuity, high removal efficiency, biodegradation, without second-polluting, etc.In this paper, a review on the microbial flocculant's study and its application is presented. The types, chemical composition, character and structure were summarized. The flocculating mechanism and influencing factors are analyzed. Their application and problems were listed, and the crux of the microbial flocculant's research was pointed out. Its development and future researches were previewed in this paper.

Abstract:Coagulation is an essential unit during the water treatment.Enhancement of coagulation is an effective approach on improving the formation and settle ability offlocs.This paper briefly introduced research status and application of three typical enhanced flocculation techniques,including the addition of micro-sand,magnetic powder and recycling sludge.Based on the illustration of coagulation performance,it suggests that the influence of coagulant and hydraulic condition on flocs properties is an important factor,especially the cooperativity and suitability should be valued,aiming at enhancing flocculation.We put forward some suggestions that are necessary to carry out a further investigation on agglomeration and flocculation separately and on the characteristics of grading coagulation.

Abstract:Traditional chemical flocculants are widely used in treatment of food industry wastewater,but they have highly toxic,and it is not easily degraded by the environment,which greatly increases the difficulty of recycling and reuse of wastewater treatment by-products.Microbial flocculants are a kind of macromolecule organics which are produced by microbial metabolism and has flocculation capacity.Due to their advantages of non-tox ic and biodegradable,microbial flocculants are considered as a potential substitute for conventional chemical flocculants.The development trend of microbial flocculant in recent years was mainly introduced,and the chemical constitutions,flocculating mechanism of microbial flocculant,screening of flocculant-producing strains,the optimization of culture condition and application of microbial flocculant in food industry were reviewed in this paper.

Abstract:Water-treatment flocculants are being developed from traditional to inorganic, from inorganic to organic, from natural organic to synthetic organic, from synthetic organic to modified natural organic, from inorganic or organic to inorganic-organic, and from chemical to biological with ecological safety. In order to promote the rapid development and practical application of water-treatment flocculants, the research progress and application situation of flocculants for water treatment at home and abroad were reviewed. In particular, the characteristics of two important flocculant types, chemical and microbiological flocculants, as well as their application processes in water treatment were summarized, their development orientations were analyzed and evaluated, and the future research directions aimed to overcome the current shortages in developing and applying flocculants in China were put forward.

Abstract:The microbial flocculant has become one of hot spots in the research of green water purification agent due to its high efficiency,safety and no secondary pollution.The purpose of this review is to summarize the application fields of the microbial flocculants in recent years,including the raw water treatment process,wastewater treatment process,sludge dewatering process,and its emerging application fields.Microbial flocculant shows the great application potential in all kinds of water treatment fields.The scientific prospect of the application of microbial flocculants has been put forward with regard to the bottleneck problems in the application field.

Abstract:Inorganic flocculants, organic synthetic polymer floeculants and microbial flocculants were compared to propose flocculants with better performance, wider application scale, biodegradability and environmental safety. This paper reviewed chemical composition and synthesis mechanism of screening, identification, cultivation, extraction and purification of microbial floeeulants. The paper also discussed the removal efficiency of microbial flocculant on livestock wastewater, COD and BOD in wastewater, printing and dyeing wastewater and heavy metal ion in industrial wastewater. Abstract:Microbial flocculants is a kind of metabolite produced by microorganisms, which has flocculabity. Microbial flocculants are widely used in wastewater treatment and some industrial separating processing. They have better flocculability properties than that of inorganic and organic macromolecule flocculants. In this paper, a review on the microbial flocculant's study and its application is presented. Some examples of the microbial flocculants application in wastewater treatment and other fields are given as well. Finally, the application market and developing trends of microbial flocculants was discussed.

Abstract:Composite polymeric flocculants are new types of high-efficiency chemicals for water and wastewater treatment,which have attracted increasing attention recently in water and wastewater treatment.This paper reviews the advances during the last decade in the research and development of composite inorganic polymeric flocculants,composite inorganic-organic polymeric flocculants and composite bioflocculants.The existing problems in the research and development of composite polymeric flocculants were analyzed,and some suggestions for the future research on composite flocculants were also put forward.It is hoped that this review will be beneficial to the research,development and application of composite flocculants in water and wastewater treatment.

Abstract:The development of inorganic polymer composite flocculants is summed up in the paper. The unique characteristics and advantages of inorganic polymer composite flocculants are discussed. The progress in researches on inorganic polymer composite flocculants, such as poly-aluminum-silicate (PASI), poly-ferric-silicate (PFSI), Al-Fe copolymer, and others etc. are mainiy summarized and reviewed. Abstract:As people's material quality of life continues to improve, water resources become subjected to varying degrees of contamination. As one of the most commonly utilised agents in water treatment, a flocculant exhibits a diverse range of forms and a vast scope of applications. However, the application of flocculants gives rise to a series of issues, including the use of large doses, the formation of sludge, the difficulty of recycling flocculants, and other concerns. The development of new flocculation technology has become a crucial step in enhancing the purification of wastewater and reducing environmental pollution. Magnetic flocculation can be classified into two main categories: magnetic seeds flocculation and magnetic flocculation. This paper presents an overview of the factors influencing magnetic flocculation, including the type of magnetic seeds, magnetic seeds particle size, and other pertinent considerations. Furthermore, the classification of magnetic flocculants in the process of magnetic flocculation is discussed. This includes the types of magnetic flocculant, namely, inorganic composite magnetic flocculants, organic composite magnetic flocculants, and biological composite magnetic flocculants. Inorganic composite magnetic flocculants are inexpensive and simple to produce; however, their dosage is considerable, and the resulting floc is not tightly formed, which impairs the efficacy of flocculation. The use of organic composite magnetic flocculants requires a smaller dosage and exhibits a strong flocculating ability; however, it may possess toxic properties and potentially cause harm to the water body. The biological composite magnetic flocculant exhibits high efficiency and no pollution, yet it is subject to stringent environmental conditions, displays poor stability, and is applicable to a relatively limited range of treatment scenarios. Furthermore, the integration of magnetic flocculation technology with other techniques is classified and summarised in diverse contexts, and the prospective research focus and direction of magnetic flocculants are proposed.

Abstract:As there are many advantages of using chemical flocculation process to treat pharmaceutical wastewater, including:high-effect, economical, easy operation and so on, through the combination of it with traditional aerobic / anaerobic biochemical, membrane separation and some other processes, the antibiotic occurance and the persistence fouling of membrance reactor caused by pharmaceutical wastewater could be effectively controlled.Meanwhile, the wastewater biodegradability could be elevated greatly and the wastewater quality characteristic could be improved which made the effluent quality near to or reach the standard for common organic wastewater, thus solved the problems of pharmaceutical wastewater treatment radically.The research status of the application of flocculation in pharmaceutical wastewater treatment and the main factors affecting the said process were discussed.

Abstract:It is an important prerequisite for proper disposal and resource utilization of sludge to improve its dewa-terability with conditioning pretreatment.Conditioning based on flocculation is the most reliable and widely used technology for improving sludge dewaterability due to its significant effects and controllable costs.In addition,the combined flocculants can play a synergistic role and have more diverse functionality,which is a research hotspot of sludge dewatering.The current situation of sludge disposal and treatment,as well as the difficulties in sludge dewa-tering were introduced.The mechanism and application of various flocculants or their combined usage were elabo-rated.This paper is expected to provide theoretical basis and application reference for the utilization of flocculation-based technology to enhance sludge dewaterability.

Abstract:Chemical coagulation is one of the water treatment methods widely used in China and other countries. More and more attention has been paid to the ecological safety of chemical flocculants during their usage. In this paper, the ecological safety in preparation, production, and usage of the commonly used Al-based flocculants, Fe-based flocculants, and organic polymer flocculants was analyzed. Due to the long-term application of Al-based flocculants, high concentrations of aluminum ions are remained in waters, and their migration and transformation in the environment can result in the damage of plants, animals, microorganisms, and human beings. Fe-based flocculants can also introduce some harmful ions and produce NO2 during their preparation process, and the iron ions can catalyze the formation of toxic radicals, leading to cell and tissue damage. Polyacrylamides can be decomposed to toxic acrylamide under natural conditions. Based on the present research status in the ecological safety of chemical flocculants at home and abroad, the application and research directions of the flocculants were discussed.
