Abstract:This paper respectively reviews the process of studying the MALDI and the publications of relevant research results carried out by young engineer Koichi Tanaka in Shimadzu Corporation and two German professors in the University of Frankfurt during the 1980s.The author points out:Although both parties independently developed the methods of MALDI,the former merely published his research results in the form of patents while the latter in the form of papers at that time.However,either from the perspective of experimentations or publications,Koichi Tanaka deserved to be called the first person who made mass spectroscopy to the protein molecules using the methods of MALDI.Finally,the paper analyzes the implications of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry awarded to an enterprise engineer,who was of Non-Western origin,merely had bachelor's degree and even without SCI papers.

Abstract:The quality of innovative talents is unique.In the process of cultivating innovative talents,it is necessary to scientifically recognize the quality that innovative talents should possess,to understand the mechanism of its generation and transformation,and to explore the approaches of realizing the potential quality.On the basis of analyzing innovative talents′ basic quality,this paper discusses the realization paths of quality transformation,and proposes a three-stage multi-dimensional generation model of innovative talents′ quality.Finally, it makes some reflections on the cultivation of innovative talents.

Abstract:Though the Japanese scientist Osamu Shimomura had not received a good school education in his early years,he had quickly found appropriate research field and got into well-known scientific research institutions with the help of several famous professors.He made great efforts unremitting for a long time,grasped the opportunities in the research process in good time,and made a series of breakthroughs on bioluminescence.Shimomura stopped his study on green fluorescent protein(GFP) since 1980,yet he shared the 2008 Nobel Prize in Chemistry with Martin Chalfie and Roger Y.Tsien as the discoverer of GFP and the pathfinder of its structure research.This paper reviewed Shimomura's research career and scientific attainments,and analyzed his way of success from several aspects with 'Qian Xuesen's Question'.Views on how the case of Shimomura had inspired the cultivation of outstanding talents have been discussed in the last part of the paper as well.

Abstract:This paper reviews in detail the reasons why Shimadzu Corporation which manufactures medical appliances and analytical instruments could rank among the enterprises that have the Noble Price winner.The author believes that the main reasons why the breakthroughs of MALDI-TOF-MS in Independent Innovation could be achieved by Shimadzu Corporation which is just a medium-size enterprise are: Having the top-notch and renowned corporate culture of innovation;Establishing a subject of great research value,and having many years of research accumulations in that field;Setting up a dynamic close-cooperation research team with interdisciplinary;Boldly recruiting Koichi Tanaka,a genius who has a strong sense of responsibility,especially loves the work of developing medical appliances and analytical instruments;The country could timely provide quality Information Service of ST and the required experimental materials and instruments.

Abstract:In 2014, Japanese scientist Isamu Akasaki and Hiroshi Amano won the Nobel prize in physics together with Japanese American scientist Shuji Nakamur. Isamu Akasaki,Hiroshi Amano’s tutor as well as the pioneer on the blue LED research, is the most representative one. In this article,the author introduced Isamu Akasaki’s study and research in his early years, reviewed how he went into thesemiconductive chemical compound research field, In this field, he made the gallium nitride monocrystal preparation, and developed the hi-lite blue LED. The article analyzed the main factors of winning the Nobel prize-class scientific breakthroughs, and discussed the relationship among great scientific breakthroughs, scientist’s self-interest as well as social needs.Analyzing Isamu Akasaki’s research process is helpful to providing a new way for China’s scientific and technological policies making and optimization.

Abstract:Analyzing typical and significant science-technology breakthroughs is the foundation of formulating effective science-technology policies. There is no doubt that Nobel-Prize-level breakthroughs are quite typical. Thus, it is necessary to conduct in-depth research into Nobel Prize winners’ specific processes of major science-technology breakthroughs. This paper investigates the invention process of blue LED, which won Shuji Nakamura the 2014 Nobel Prize in Physics, and analyzes the key factors to this major breakthrough. The major events in this process includes the Way to Nichia Corporation, the Establishment of Blue LED Project, the Choice of MOVPE, the Development of High-Quality Ga N P-type Semiconductor, and the Industrialization of Double-Heterojunction Blue LED. The paper ends with the conclusion that, as science becomes increasingly technical and vice versa, improving or redesigning experiment devices independently and keeping them unique and in advantage have become one of the prerequisites to acquire significant science-technology breakthroughs in many cases of experimental researches. It is therefore suggested that artisan spirit and ability may receive more attention in the educational system so as to nourish scientific and technological innovations.

Abstract:With the global economy entering the knowledge economy era, technological innovation has become the core driving force for the development of various countries. Only by transforming technological achievements into goods or services can their economic and social value be truly realized. Especially in developing countries like China, whether technological achievements can be quickly and effectively transformed into real productivity is of decisive significance for economic growth, industrial upgrading, and international competitiveness enhancement. The outline of China's 14th Five Year Plan proposes to accelerate the construction of a strong country in science and technology and enhance the country's capacity for scientific and technological innovation. Universities, as the main base for talent cultivation and the main force of the national scientific and technological innovation system, should become an important platform for achievement transformation. However, the conversion rate of patent achievements in Chinese universities has always been low. This article reviews and draws on Japan's experience and practices in promoting achievement conversion, and explores new models of achievement conversion that are suitable for China's national conditions.

Abstract:With rapid development of science and technology,talent resources are a vital and strategic factor in the competition of national power.As a leading innovative country,Japan has certain characteristics similar to China.The similarities between the two countries make it meaningful for China to study Japan's experience on fostering world-class scientists.This study uses 265 Highly Cited Researchers as representatives of world-class scientists,and analyzes the background and experiences of all Highly Cited Researchers in Japan.The study concludes with suggestions with regard to fostering China's own world-class scientists,including improving domestic higher education system,valuing overseas working experience,encouraging domestic talents,and supporting young researchers.

Abstract:Using the CNKI database as the sample source, we investigated the makeup of current research results on Chinese technological innovation, and found that the study of Chinese technological innovation consists of nine directions - underlying principles of innovation behavior, concepts of innovation cognition, methods of innovation, behavior of innovation subjects, structure of innovation mediators, innovation capacity, public service system of innovation, policy support system of innovation, and cultural environment of innovation, as well as several issues of innovation, including its behavior mechanism, operational mechanism, work mechanism, modes of implementation, modes of mathematical representation, modes of physical representation, modes of behavioral representation, modes of performance representation, modes of function realization, modes of structure realization, modes of workflow realization, modes of carrier realization, etc. Such a scattered makeup requires us to formulate the system of Chinese technological innovation achievements from the perspective of philosophy of science. This will be an important mission in the study of Chinese technological innovation.

Abstract:The education and research on history of science and technology in Tokyo Institute of Technology were derived from educational reform launched by the president of the institute Koroku Wada after World War II. Their attention to introspection on science and technology in the society was distinguished from Kyoto University group's emphasis on the oriental tradition and that of University of Tokyo group to catch up with the West. Since the beginning of 1970s, Tokyo Institute of Technology group has paid more attention to the research on history of science. With the new reform in 1990,Tokyo Institute of Technology group gained further development in the education and research institutionalization on history of science and technology.

Abstract:Several measures are used to delineate the remarkable growth in the Japanese technological position over the last decade. The share of U.S. patents issued to Japanese inventors has been rising at 1 percent per year. These patents are the most frequently cited patents in the U.S. system. By 1984, Japanese inventors obtained more U.S. patents than inventors in the United Kingdom, France, and West Germany combined, and the gap has been widening ever since. As measured by publications, the Japanese scientific position is more modest, with a 0.5 percent rise per year in papers and with barely average citation performance. These indicators characterize Japan as a technological powerhouse, with highly innovative technology, and an expanding but far less powerful scientific position.
