Modified Rayleigh-Love rod model for 3D dynamic analysis of large-diameter thin-walled pipe pile embedded in multilayered soils

Abstract:With the development of some sophisticated mathematical approaches, the 3D wave modelling for nondestructive wave test of the pile had been realized. However, the existing methods are too complicated and computationally intensive to be utilized in practical engineering. In this paper, a simple but elegant method, namely modified Rayleigh-Love rod model, is proposed for the 3D wave modelling of large-diameter thin-walled pipe piles. The model realizes the simulation of both the radial inertia effect and the circumferential transverse wave effect, without involving any numerical procedures. During the establishment of the dynamic equations, the convenience of mathematical derivation is given priority consideration: the radial wave effect is considered through the conservation of energy, whereas the circumferential wave effects are realized through the force balance. The semi-analytical solution is verified through the comparisons with the conventional Rayleigh-Love rod model, 3D rigorous solution, and the finite element method (FEM) answers. Compared to the existing solutions, this model has simpler mathematical expressions and better computational efficiency. Based on the proposed model, the performances of different high frequency elimination methods are compared to offer practical suggestions to the acquisition of undisturbed signals.
