A Concise Maehly Approximation Implementation for Perturbated-MoM to Predict RCS of Uncertain Geometrical Targets

Abstract:In this letter, a concise Maehly Approximation Implementation for Perturbated-MoM (CMA-PM) is proposed for predicting the radar cross section (RCS) of uncertain geometrical targets. Non-uniform rational B-spline surfaces are used to construct models with adjustable shapes. Initially, the surface currents are expanded with the Chebyshev series and substituted with a rational function Maehly approximation to enhance the accuracy. Subsequently, the moment-matching solution is employed to obtain the surface induced current distribution of a target with arbitrary shape variations. Lastly, the mean and variance of the RCS are computed by using the perturbation technique. Numerical results indicate that, compared with the novel indeterminate asymptotic waveform evaluation (NI-AWE) and the perturbational-CFIE (P-CFIE), the proposed CMA-PM method offers enhanced precision for a wider range of shape variations and reduces the consumption of computing resources. In comparison to the Monte Carlo (MC) method, the proposed CMA-PM method can significantly reduce the computational time.
