Abstract:Presented new fault diagnosis system for the locomotive rolling bearing based on advanced DSP technology,and provided a feasible strategy.And using the resonance demodulation and FFT methods,especially adopting the correlation method to process the results markedly,improved the calculation precision for the rolling bearing diagnosis The responding time delay of conventional circuit in the monitor system was effectively improved.The sensitivity and resolution of the monitoring and alarming system for the instant fault were also improved for the running locomotive.

Abstract:Rolling element bearings are at the heart of most rotating machines and they bear the function of connectivity between the rotor and stator. It is important to distinguish the incipient fault before the bearing step into serious failure. The Slip Matrix (SM) construction method based on Singular Value Decomposition (SVD) is proposed in this paper. The SM based fault feature extraction and impulses intelligent detection methods are introduced as the key steps for rolling bearing fault diagnosis. The numerical simulation of rolling bearing fault signal is adopted which shows that the proposed method is good at fault impulses detection in strong background noise environment. The rolling element bearing accelerated life test is performed for the acquisition of experimental data of rolling bearing fault. With the rolling bearing running from normal state to failure, the initial fault signal part can be picked out from the whole life vibration data of the rolling bearing. The vibration signal is close to the nature fault signal which is acquired from a rolling bearing applied in industrial field. The analysis result shows that the proposed method has an excellent performance in rolling bearing fault detection.

Abstract:The nonlinear wavelet-morphological wavelet is introduced into the field of vibration signal processing to explore methods that can process effectively both Gauss noise and non-Gauss noise based on the routine of bi-spectrum analysis. Morphological wavelet packet was developed and its analysis and synthesis steps were described,to perfect the morphological wavelet theory. On the basis of excellent de-noising effects of morphological wavelet packet,three kinds of cascaded algorithms were put forward based on the morphological wavelet packet,Hilbert envelope analysis and bi-spectrum analysis,that is morphological wavelet packet-bi-spectrum,morphological wavelet packet-Hilbert-bi-spectrum and Hilbert-morphological wavelet packet-bi-spectrum.These three algorithms showed good inhibition for Gauss noise and non-Gauss noise. Hilbert-morphological wavelet packet-bi-spectrum algorithm especially unfolds best adaptability. Results in rolling bearing signal processing show that Hilbert-morphological wavelet packet-bi-spectrum algorithm can tell bearing fault of different components and different fault degree from each other clearly.

Abstract:Based on primary theory of wavelet packet transformation, the signal of rolling bearing fault was processed, The signal characteristic can be effective withdrawn from the actual signal after wavelet packet decomposition and restructuring, Then, using Fourier transform, it presents an approach to get the frequency of fault signal. The experimental result proves that, the wavelet packet analysis can adaptively choose the related frequency band according to the analyzed signal characteristic. The practice example shows that this method is effective. The research results provide the theoretical foundation for rotary machine fault diagnosis, and have important practical value.

Abstract:There are still some remaining issues for time-frequency distribution application in rolling bearing fault diagnosis, such as noise suppression and resolution improvement. In this paper, we proposed a novel time-frequency correlation matching and reconstruction method to enhance the ability of rolling bearing fault identification. Firstly, we use the optimal simulated bearing fault signal to obtain the matching template through time-frequency distribution. Then, correlation matching operation is conducted between the obtained matching template and the original time-frequency distribution of analyzed signal. Finally, the original time-frequency distribution is reconstructed with the correlation coefficients and matching template using the template reconstruction algorithm. The reconstructed time-frequency distribution has inherited the capability of matching template in noise suppression, and can reveal the fault impulses of interest in a unified scale. The effectiveness of the proposed method has been proved by experimental result.
Fault Diagnosis Method for the Rolling Bearing of Railway Vehicle Based on Wavelet Packet Transform and BP Neural Network

Abstract:In order to diagnose the fault of railway rolling bearing, a new method of fault diagnosis based on the improved wavelet packet and BP (Back Propagation) neural network was put forward, and a fault diagnosis system for railway rolling bearing was developed. The vibration signal of the analog fault bearing of the bearing test rig was collected by Piezoelectric Accelerometer. At first, the signal was de-noised by wavelet. Then it was decomposed by the improved wavelet packet to construct the eigenvector that can be taken as the fault samples to train the improved BP neural network. Finally, the intelligent fault diagnosis was realized. The test results show that the fault diagnosis system based on this method can well diagnose such faults as the fatigue, spalling, wear, crack, and so on, occurred in the inner ring, the outer ring and the rolling body surface of railway rolling bearing. The fault diagnosis system has high application value in practical engineering.

Abstract:A kind of fault diagnosis system based on multi-channel vibration signal is put forward.After analyzing the particularity of trolley wheel bearings,current diagnosis methods and their disadvantages are discussed and the superiority of this method is pointed out.Hardware architecture of signal acquisition system is given;user interface software is built with modularization theory principle,on the precondition of PC's high speed computing and mass storage ability.Critical signal analyzing methods such as time domain,frequency domain,power spectrum,static parameters etc.are introduced to diagnose bearings' faults.The experimental results indicate that this system is convenient,online,high success rate,and satisfy the requests of online fault diagnosis of port machine's trolley wheel bearing.

Abstract:In order to supply a gap of current resonance vibration and STFT demodulation method applied to rolling bearing fault feature extraction of city rail vehicle, a fault diagnosis method for rolling bearing is presented, which is based on the integration of improved wavelet packet, frequency energy analysis and Hilbert marginal spectrum. When faults occur in rolling bearing, the energy of the rolling bearing vibration signal would change correspondingly, while the Hilbert energy spectrum can exactly provide the energy distribution of the signal in certain frequency with the change of the time and frequency. Thus, the fault information of the rolling bearing can be extracted effectively from the improved wavelet packet and Hilbert energy spectrum. The experimental result proves that the fault characteristic extracted by improved wavelet packet and Hilbert transform is in accord with the one analyzed from theory, and the fault feature extraction method is effective. The research results provide the theoretical foundation for the extraction of fault feature in rotary machine and have important practical value.

Abstract:As a key component of machine, most rolling bearings operate under variable speed conditions. Therefore, it is critical to complete automatic fault diagnosis for rolling bearings under variable speed conditions. Although there have been many research studies on fault diagnosis in recent years, the following two problems still exist in fault diagnosis of variable speed bearing: (1) due to the large range of energy distribution for signals under variable speed conditions, the existed signal processing methods lead to the loss of fault information; (2) when directional filtering is carried out according to four different types of faults, the difference in amplitudes of the obtained spectrums is large. This means that the filtering result with the maximum amplitude will be determined as the fault type by mistake. In order to integrate the information scattered across different frequency spectrums and use reasonable filtering to complete automatic diagnosis, Multispectral Balanced Automatic Fault Diagnosis is proposed for rolling bearings under variable speed conditions. On the one hand, signals are preprocessed by the Multispectral Lossless Preprocessing Module, which can eliminate the influence of variable rotating speeds and avoid the loss of fault information. On the other hand, the Balanced Envelope Demodulation Module is designed to realize automatic fault diagnosis by Protrugram and Balancing Envelope Spectrum. The effectiveness of the proposed method is verified by simulated signals and experimental data. Results indicate that the method can complete automatic fault diagnosis of rolling bearings under variable speed conditions with an accuracy of 76%, which outperforms state-of-the-art methods.

Abstract:Fault diagnosis of rolling bearing has always been the focus of research in the engineering field. Due to the nonstationary conditions, this work has suffered huge challenges. The adaptive chirp mode decomposition (ACMD) is a signal decomposition method developed recently. By using a recursive framework embedded with an iterative algorithm, it can decompose signals one by one. Although this scheme has strong adaptability, the accuracy of reconstructed signals is very rough. Moreover, the estimated components will even deviate from the true results as the iteration progresses when two components are very close. In order to solve the above problems, a novel two-step ACMD is proposed in this article. Specifically, the recursive scheme without an iterative algorithm is only used to decompose signals first, which can determine the number of components. Then, the joint-estimation framework using an iterative algorithm is used to achieve high-resolution component reconstruction. The main idea of this two-step method is to let different schemes do what they do best. Subsequently, we proposed a new fault diagnosis method for rolling bearing under variable speeds based on the proposed two-step ACMD. Finally, both simulation and actual bearing diagnosis cases verify the potential of the proposed method and successfully diagnosed different kinds of rolling bearing faults.

Abstract:Rolling bearings are necessary parts in rotary machines. However, the problem of early fault diagnosis for rolling bearings is difficult to solve due to its low signal-to-noise ratio and non-linear and non-stationary signal. Based on a detailed investigation of rolling bearing vibration signals, this paper proposes a method for determining whether a fault occurs by comparing the high-frequency band power. If a fault occurs, we first de-noise the vibration signals using wavelet de-noising and then extract the fault characteristics in both the time domain and the time-frequency domain to avoid the limitations of using only one domain. Finally, the fault location is identified using the grey correlation method. According to the method application results, the recognition accuracy using the method proposed in this paper is satisfactory, proving that the method has superior performance.

Abstract:As the transient impulse components in early fault signals are weak and easily buried by strong background noise, the fault features of rolling bearings are difficult to be extracted effectively. Focusing on this issue, a novel method based on improved direct fast iterative filtering and spectral amplitude modulation (IDFIF-SAM) is presented for detecting the early fault of rolling bearings. First, the ratio of the average crest factor of autocorrelation envelope spectrum to the average envelope entropy is taken as the fitness function to search the optimal parameters of direct fast iterative filtering (DFIF) adaptively via particle swarm optimization (PSO). Then, the efficient kurtosis entropy (EKE) index is being employed to choose the suitable components to reconstruct the signal. Finally, the reconstructed signal is subjected to spectral amplitude modulation (SAM) to strengthen the impulse features. The superiority of improved direct fast iterative filtering (IDFIF) over fixed-parameter DFIF, fast iterative filtering (FIF), and hard thresholding fast iterative filtering (HTFIF) is clarified through the simulated signal. Moreover, the comparative experimental analysis shows that the proposed IDFIF-SAM method can identify the early fault feature of rolling bearings more effectively.

Abstract:To solve the problems of difficult fault signal recognition and poor diagnosis effect of different damage in the same position in rolling mill bearing at low speed, a fault diagnosis method of rolling mill bearing based on integration of EEMD and DBN was proposed. The vibration signals in horizontal, axial, and vertical directions were decomposed and reconstructed by EEMD, and frequency domain analysis was carried out by using refined spectrum. Then, the signal's time-frequency domain index, rolling force, and torque component feature vector were input into genetic algorithm (GA) to optimize DBN model classification. In order to verify the effectiveness of the method, the experimental study was carried out on the two-high experimental rolling mill. The results show that EEMD combined with thinning spectrum can solve the problem of fault feature extraction well. Compared with time-frequency domain characteristic input, the prediction accuracy of DBN model is obviously improved. And the accuracy of GA-DBN model is higher, and the accuracy is 98.3%, and the time taken to diagnose is significantly reduced. Finally, the fault classification of different parts of bearings and the fault diagnosis of different damage in the same part are realized, which provides a good theoretical basis for the fault diagnosis of low-speed bearings and has important engineering significance.
Vibration Health Monitoring of Rolling Bearings under Variable Speed Conditions by Novel Demodulation Technique

Abstract:Time-varying fault impulse amplitude and time-varying fault impulse interval are the main challenges for rolling bearing fault diagnosis under variable speed conditions. In this paper, a vibration-based rolling bearing fault characteristic frequency (FCF) estimation and novel diagnosis method under time-varying rotational speeds are proposed, using the demodulation transform. First, the FCFs with weak amplitudes are estimated, using the optimization-based demodulation transform, whose main concept is that with the optimal demodulation operator (DO), the time-varying frequency component can be transformed into a constant one and the largest peak can be detected in the spectrum of the demodulated signal. Second, the rolling bearing is successfully diagnosed with hypothesis-based demodulation transform, whose main concept is that the rotational frequency (RF)-related DOs under different fault types are estimated, based on the estimated FCFs and the fault characteristic coefficients (FCCs). Then the RF-related peak in the spectrum of the demodulated signal can be used to detect rolling bearing fault. The effectiveness of the proposed method is verified, using both simulated signal and measured vibration signal. Novel comparisons with the current methods demonstrate much better ability of the proposed method for diagnosis of rolling bearing under variable speed conditions.

Abstract:Aiming at the problems of weak dynamic response and difficulty in diagnosis of early damage of rolling bearings, a diagnosis method for early damage of rolling bearings is proposed. Taking radial rolling bearings as the main research object, the load symmetric structure of deep groove ball bearings is analyzed. Based on the mechanical second-order system theory, the sensor monitoring structure is constructed. The generalized resonance principle is used to identify weak signals, and the fiber Bragg grating is used for signal sensing. The signal is obtained through the fiber Bragg grating high-speed demodulator. When a continuous periodic generalized resonance wave appears in the amplitude–frequency analysis of the signal, and there is a high-frequency resonance frequency, it can be proved that the bearing is faulty. The diagnosis method can effectively avoid the interference of low-frequency signals, the frequency spectrum is pure and there is no electromagnetic interference. It fully shows that the fiber Bragg grating sensor is suitable for the monitoring and diagnosis of the early weak fault of the bearing.

Insight - Non-Destructive Testing and Condition Monitoring

Abstract:Bearing fault diagnosis helps to ensure the safe operation of electromechanical equipment and reduce unnecessary losses due to downtime. The interference of noise in the signal poses a challenge in the effective identification of rolling bearing faults. To address the above problems, this paper proposes a rolling bearing fault diagnosis (RBFD) method based on generalised dispersive mode decomposition (GDMD) and an accugram. Firstly, the bearing signal is decomposed using GDMD and the optimal number of decomposition modes is chosen using a new index based on the correlation coefficient and accuracy. According to the number of determined decomposition modes, the fault signal is reconstructed. Then, the centre frequency and bandwidth of the resonant frequency are determined using an accugram. Finally, the fault signal is filtered and analysed using a square envelope spectrum to achieve rolling bearing fault diagnosis. Experimental signal analysis verifies the effectiveness and feasibility of the method. The method is applied to the early fault diagnosis of rolling bearings and compared with kurtogram and accugram results. The results show that the approach can not only effectively avoid the interference of external impacts but it can also correctly recognise the fault characteristic frequency band.

Abstract:Periodic impulses characterize the vibration of rolling element bearings with localized defect Wavelet time-frequency.frame decomposition can best match the characteristic structures of a signal globally,and extract the time-frequency information directly.It is employed to analyze the vibration signals of both normal and faulty rolling element bearings with single point defect in rolling element,inner race and outer race.In order to extract the transient features of rolling element bearing vibration,especially the periodic impulses,wavelet time-frequency frames are designed.By means of the frame decomposition,the periodic impulses are extracted in joint time-frequency domain,and the single point defects are identified accordingly.From the comparison with continuous wavelet transformation based on basis expansion,it is found that the frame decomposition is effective in simultaneously extracting the impulses,harmonics and other transient phenomena of rolling element bearing vibration signals,and is feasible in identifying the localized defects of rolling element bearings.

Abstract:Fault diagnosis is a novel technology crucial for monitoring the proper functioning and ensuring the stability of mechanical devices and components. Nevertheless, most existing data‐driven methods for rolling bearing fault diagnosis exhibit limited diagnostic capabilities in scenarios characterized by noise interference and inadequate training data. To address this issue, this paper proposes a novel intelligent fault diagnosis method for rolling bearings based on Capsule Network with Fast Routing algorithm (FCN). Firstly, the vibration signal is transformed into a time‐frequency map through continuous wavelet transform (CWT), and the transformed time‐frequency map is input into the network model to enable the network to learn features more fully. Subsequently, this paper introduces FCNs into capsule networks, effectively mitigating the extended training times typically associated with capsule networks and reducing the demands on training equipment. Extensive experiments are conducted utilizing two distinct bearing datasets to assess the method's stability and generalization. The results of these experiments demonstrate the proposed approach's ability to maintain robust fault diagnosis capabilities, even in the presence of noise interference and limited training data. This innovative method lays the foundation for intelligent rolling bearing diagnosis and is readily adaptable to other rotating components.

Abstract:Rolling bearings often work under variable speed conditions, resulting in nonstationary vibrations. How to effectively extract the time-varying fault frequency from nonstationary vibration signals is a key issue in rolling bearing fault diagnosis. To address this issue, a quality time–frequency analysis of excellent time–frequency readability and robust to noise is necessary. To this end, the concentration of frequency and time (ConceFT) method is exploited. Based on this time–frequency analysis method, and considering the modulation feature of rolling bearing vibrations, we propose joint time-varying amplitude and frequency demodulated spectra to reveal the time-varying fault characteristic frequency. Firstly, the optimal frequency band sensitive to rolling bearing fault is selected by spectral kurtosis. Then, both the amplitude envelope and instantaneous frequency of the sensitive signal component within the selected optimal frequency band are calculated. Next, the ConceFT method is applied to the amplitude envelope and instantaneous frequency to generate the time-varying amplitude and frequency demodulated spectra. Finally, rolling bearing fault can be diagnosed by analysis of the time-varying frequency revealed by the time-varying demodulated spectra. This method is free from complex time-varying sidebands, and is robust to noise interference. It is illustrated by numerical simulated signal analysis, and is further validated via lab experimental rolling bearing vibration signal analyses. The localized defects on both inner and outer race are successfully diagnosed.
