Caveolin-1 and Tumors

Abstract:Caveolin is the distinctive structural protein of caveolae.It plays an important role in life activities such as endocytosis,cholesterol transport,cell membrane package,regulation of signal transduction,oncogenesis,and tumor metastasis.Caveolin-1(Cav-1) gene,which is a member of caveolin gene family,may play an important role in the pathogenesis of tumorigenesis and metastasis and be related with the classic multidrug resistance.Cav-1 has a quite diverse functional roles,ranging from regulation in cell cycle and signal transduction,and important implications for the cell apoptosis and antiangiogenesis,to negative regulation in growth factors,and plays a role in tumor invasion and metastasis.
