Research on Correlation Between Verticillium Wilt Resistance and Economic Characters in Cotton

Abstract:Several cotton varieties and two hybrid populations were used to analysis the correlation between resistance to Verticillium wilt and economic characters in cotton.The results showed that,(i) The hybrid population from G.hisutum and G.barbadense had the higher resistance than that of G.hisutum and G.hisutum.(ii) The disease index of G.hisutum had significantly negative correlation with the number of effective fruit-bearing branches and the number of effective bolls.(iii) The disease index of M44 had significantly negative correlation with the number of effective fruit-bearing branches,the number of effective bolls and the number of bolls.(iv) The disease index of G.barbadense had significantly negative correlation with the average plant height.(v) The disease index of M37 had significantly negative correlation with the average plant height and the first fruit branch height.(vi) The number of effective fruit-bearing branches and the number of effective bolls could be the indirect resistance index to Verticillium wilt.(vii) From the study on M37,it could be concluded that the average plant was coinherited with the resistance to Verticillium wilt.
