Abstract:Anomalous sector of chiral Lagrangian is calculated in a gauge invariant, nonlocal, dynamical quark model. The Wess–Zumino term is proved coming from two kinds of sources, one is independent of and another dependent on dynamical quark self energy Σ(k2). p6 and more higher order anomalous sectors come only from Σ(k2) dependent source. After some cancellation, standard Wess–Zumino action is obtained.

Abstract:The normal part of the Gasser-Leutwyler formulation of the chiral Lagrangian is formally derived from the first principles of QCD without taking approximations. All the coefficients are expressed in terms of certain Green's functions in QCD, which can be regarded as the general QCD definitions of the normal part of the coefficients. The approximate values of the coefficients are also presented.

Abstract:We present a new Lagrangian formulation of General Relativity with cosmological constant, coupled to Yang-Mills gauge theory. The formulation has a manifest color/kinematics-dual structure, both in the choice of fundamental fields and in the way they appear in the Lagrangian. The color/kinematics duality is between gauge and Lorentz generators. The fundamental fields consists of 1-form connections and 0-form curvatures -- a structure inspired by higher-spin gravity. The new formulation can be arrived at by combining appropriate versions of the Plebanski and Chalmers-Siegel Lagrangians, and integrating out the Plebanski 2-form. The construction comes in chiral and non-chiral versions. The chiral version is slightly simpler, and highlights the self-dual sector. The non-chiral one makes parity manifest, and doesn't force us to complexify the theory.

Abstract:We study the dynamical chiral symmetry breaking in (2+1)-dimensional QED in the presence of an Abelian Higgs model (Ginzburg-Landau model) at the leading order of 1/N. In the gauge symmetry broken phase, the gauge boson becomes massive via the Anderson-Higgs mechanism. The Dyson-Schwinger equation for fermion self-energy depends on two parameters: the gauge boson mass m(A) and the Higgs boson mass m(h). It is found that, in the region of large ratio r = m(h)/m(A), m(A) and m(h) reduces the critical fermion number N(c), below which the massless fermion acquires a dynamical mass.

Abstract:We analyze the Hamiltonian structure of an extended chiral bosons theory in which the self-dual constraint is introduced via a control $\alpha$-parameter. The system has two second-class constraints in the non-critical regime and an additional one in the critical regime. We use a modified gauge unfixing formalism to derive a first-class system, disclosing hidden symmetries. To this end, we choose one of the second-class constraints to build a corresponding gauge symmetry generator. The worked out procedure converts second-class variables into first-class ones allowing the lifting of gauge symmetry. Any function of these GU variables will also be invariant. We obtain the GU Hamiltonian and Lagrangian densities in a generalized context containing the Srivastava and Floreanini-Jackiw models as particular cases. Additionally, we observe that the resulting GU Lagrangian presents similarities to the Siegel invariant Lagrangian which is known to be suitable for describing chiral bosons theory with classical gauge invariance, however broken at quantum level. The final results signal a possible equivalence between our invariant Lagrangian obtained from the modified GU formalism and the Siegel invariant Lagrangian, with a distinct gauge symmetry.

Abstract:A self-consistent holographic QCD model is proposed which can realize both chiral symmetry breaking and confinement, two most important phenomena of QCD. It is pointed out that the model can accommodate both Regge spectra of hadrons and the linear potential between quarks. The model is formulated in the framework of graviton-dilaton-scalar system, where the dilaton field is dual to the dimension-2 gluon condensate and can lead to the linear confinement, while the scalar field corresponds to the quark anti-quark condensate and can explain the property of chiral dynamics.

Calculation of the Chiral Lagrangian Coefficients from the Underlying Theory of QCD: A Simple Approach

Abstract:We calculate the coefficients in the chiral Lagrangian approximately from QCD based on a previous study of deriving the chiral Lagrangian from the first principles of QCD in which the chiral Lagrangian coefficients are defined in terms of certain Green's functions in QCD. We first show that, in the large N(c)-limit, the anomaly part contributions to the coefficients are exactly cancelled by certain terms in the normal part contributions, and the final results of the coefficients only concern the remaining normal part contributions depending on QCD interactions. We then do the calculation in a simple approach with the approximations of taking the large-N(c) limit, the leading order in dynamical perturbation theory, and the improved ladder approximation, thereby the relevant Green's functions are expressed in terms of the quark self energy. By solving the Schwinger-Dyson equation for the quark self energy, we obtain the approximate QCD predicted coefficients and the quark condensate which are consistent with the experimental values.

Abstract:In this paper we reanalyze the electroweak chiral Lagrangian with particular focus on two issues related to gauge invariance. Our analysis is based on a manifestly gauge-invariant approach that we introduced recently. It deals with gauge-invariant Green’s functions and provides a method to evaluate the corresponding generating functional without fixing the gauge. First we show, for the case where no fermions are included in the effective Lagrangian, that the set of low-energy constants currently used in the literature is redundant. In particular, by employing the equations of motion for the gauge fields one can choose to remove two low-energy constants which contribute to the self-energies of the gauge bosons. If fermions are included in the effective field theory analysis the situation is more involved. Even in this case, however, these contributions to the self-energies of the gauge bosons can be removed. The relation of this result to the experimentally determined values for the oblique parameters S, T, and U is discussed. In the second part of the paper we consider the matching relation between a full and an effective theory. We show how the low-energy constants of the effective Lagrangian can be determined by matching gauge-invariant Green’s functions in both theories. As an application we explicitly evaluate the low-energy constants for the standard model with a heavy Higgs boson. The matching at the one-loop level and at next-to-leading order in the low-energy expansion is performed employing functional methods.

Abstract:We derive the chiral effective Lagrangian for heavy-light mesons in the heavy quark limit from QCD under proper approximations. The low energy constants in the effective Lagrangian are expressed in terms of the light quark self-energy. With typical forms of the running coupling constant of QCD and the quark self-energy obtained from Dyson-Schwinger equations as well as lattice QCD, we estimate the low energy constants in the model and the strong decay widths. A comparison with data and some discussions of the numerical results are presented.

Abstract:We formally derive the chiral Lagrangian for low lying pseudoscalar mesons from the first principles of QCD considering the contributions from the normal part of the theory without taking an approximation. The derivation is based on the standard generating functional of QCD in the path integral formalism. The gluon-field integration is formally carried out by expressing the result in terms of the physical Green's functions of the gluon. To integrate over the quark held, we introduce a bilocal auxiliary field Phi(x,y) representing the mesons. We then develop a consistent way of extracting the local pseudoscalar degree of freedom U(x) in Phi(x,y) and integrating out the rest degrees of freedom such that the complete pseudoscalar degree of freedom resides in U(x). With certain techniques, we work out the explicit U(x) dependence of the effective action up to the p(4) terms in the momentum expansion, which leads to the desired chiral Lagrangian in which all the coefficients contributed from the normal part of the theory are expressed in terms of certain quark Green's functions in QCD. Together with the exsisting QCD formulas for the anomaly contributions, the present results lead to the complete effective chiral Lagrangian for pseudoscalar mesons. The final result can be regarded as the fundamental QCD definition of the coefficients in the chiral Lagrangian. The relation between the present QCD definition of the p(2)-order coefficient F-0(2) and the well-known appoximate result given by Pagels and Stoker is discussed.

Abstract:We consider the quantum field theory of a model of an extended Nambu-Jona-Lasinio type with a QCD based nonlocal fermion current-current interaction which has global SU(Nc) symmetry. We obtain an exact bosonization of this model in four Euclidean dimensions using auxiliary bilocal fields and discuss the dynamical breakdown of chiral symmetry in the massless fermion limit. A local field bosonization is obtained by decomposing the bilocal fields in terms of complete orthonormal sets of functions with the expansion coefficients, which are local functions, identified as the local meson fields. Retaining the ground state pseudoscalar, vector and pseudovector local fields we obtain a local effective action for this sector of the theory. The derivative expansion of the fermionic determinant necessary to obtain this local action is self-regularizing because of the bilocal substructure present in the model which is manifest in the form factors that are associated with the local fields. In our local action the value of each coefficient depends critically on the underlying fermionic dynamics through these form factors and the vacuum functions. As a consequence of this the vector and pseudovector fields in the theory are best interpreted as simple fermion-antifermion bound states rather than as massive Yang-Mills fields or exotic composites of the pseudoscalars; interpretations that we find are not in general admitted when models such as the GCM are treated correctly. Identifying then the physical vector and pseudovector fields with the linearly transforming chiral partners introduced by the bosonization, we obtain an effective action for this sector of the meson spectrum which predicts values for the kinematic and dynamic quantities associated with these fields.

Abstract:Chiral gauge theories in two dimensions have been receiving much attention recently. Though quantum field theories with gauge field coupling to chiral fermion suffer from the loss of gauge invariance, it can be consistently quantized[1]. A proper quantum treatment of the gauge degrees of freedom in chiral gauge theories uncovers the presence of the Wess-Zumino effective action exactly[2]. In view of these interests in chiral gauge theories, the study of two-dimensional chiral gauge model on the lattice should prove useful. It is well-known that there will appear the species dubling when we naively discretize a fermion on the lattice[3]. In our approach we shall use Wilson fermion[4] which copes the problem[5]. The Wilson term, however, will break not only the chiral invariance but also the gauge invariance when the chiral gauge field is introduced. Aoki[6] had redrived the nonabelian anomaly with consideration of chiral gauge theory on the lattice and thought the existence of the anomaly may be related with the gauge symmetry breaking due to the Wilson term. It will be shown in follows that the Wess-Zumino effective action and the vector-boson mass as the anomalous generation terms appear due to a nontrivial change in the Wilson term under the chiral transformation in fermion.

Abstract:The two-point Green functions of the fields which appear in the Lagrangian density of the chiral Schwinger model with the Wess-Zumino term are calculated exactly by the path-integral method, and all prove to be finite. These results are different from those obtained from the anomalous chiral Schwinger model, in which a non-trivial ultraviolet divergence shows up. Such a difference has been elucidated.

Abstract:We propose an extension of the Yang-Mills paradigm from Lie algebras to internal chiral superalgebras. We replace the Lie algebra-valued connection one-form $A$, by a superalgebra-valued polyform $\widetilde{A}$ mixing exterior-forms of all degrees and satisfying the chiral self-duality condition $\widetilde{A} = {}^*\widetilde{A} \,\chi$, where $\chi$ denotes the superalgebra grading operator. This superconnection contains Yang-Mills vectors valued in the even Lie subalgebra, together with scalars and self-dual tensors valued in the odd module, all coupling only to the charge parity CP-positive Fermions. The Fermion quantum loops then induce the usual Yang-Mills-scalar Lagrangian, the self-dual Avdeev-Chizhov propagator of the tensors, plus a new vector-scalar-tensor vertex and several quartic terms which match the geometric definition of the supercurvature. Applied to the $SU(2/1)$ Lie-Kac simple superalgebra, which naturally classifies all the elementary particles, the resulting quantum field theory is anomaly-free and the interactions are governed by the super-Killing metric and by the structure constants of the superalgebra.

Abstract:In this paper a model incorporating chiral symmetry breaking and dynamical soft-wall AdS/QCD is established. The AdS/QCD background is introduced dynamically as suggested by Wayne de Paula etc al and chiral symmetry breaking is discussed by using a bulk scalar field including a cubic term. The mass spectrum of scalar, vector and axial vector mesons are obtained and a comparison with experimental data is presented.

Abstract:Based on a previous study of deriving the chiral Lagrangian (CL) from QCD, we illustrate the main feature of QCD predictions for the CL coefficients (CLC) in certain approximations. Abstract:We derive a Nambu--Jona-Lasinio (NJL) model from a non-local gauge theory and show that it has confining properties at low energies. In particular, we present an extended approach to non-local QCD and a complete revision of the technique of Bender, Milton and Savage applied to non-local theories, providing a set of Dyson--Schwinger equations in differential form. In the local case, we obtain closed form solutions in the simplest case of the scalar field and extend it to the Yang--Mills field. In general, for non-local theories, we use a perturbative technique and a Fourier series and show how higher-order harmonics are heavily damped due to the presence of the non-local factor. The spectrum of the theory is analysed for the non-local Yang--Mills sector and found to be in agreement with the local results on the lattice in the limit of the non-locality mass parameter running to infinity. In the non-local case, we confine ourselves to a non-locality mass that is sufficiently large compared to the mass scale arising from the integration of the Dyson--Schwinger equations. Such a choice results in good agreement, in the proper limit, with the spectrum of the local theory. We derive the gap equation for the fermions in the theory that gives some indication of quark confinement in the non-local NJL case as well. Confinement seems to be a rather ubiquitous effect that removes some degrees of freedom in the original action, favouring the appearance of new observable states, as seen, e.g.,\ for quantum chromodynamics at lower energies.

Abstract:We study a model Dyson-Schwinger equation for the quark propagator closed using an Ansatz for the gluon propagator of the form D(q) is similar to q2/[(q2)2 + b4] and two Ansatze for the quark-gluon vertex: the minimal Ball-Chiu form and the modified form suggested by Curtis and Pennington. Using the quark condensate as an order parameter, we find that there is a critical value of b = b(c) such that the model does not support dynamical chiral symmetry breaking for b > b(c). We discuss and apply a confinement test which suggests that, for all values of b, the quark propagator in the model is not confining. Together these results suggest that this Ansatz for the gluon propagator is inadequate as a model since it does not yield the expected behavior of QCD.

Abstract:The solution of the axial U(1) problem, the role of the topology of the gauge group in forcing the breaking of axial symmetry in any irreducible representation of the observable algebra and the theta vacua structure are revisited in the temporal gauge with attention to the mathematical consistency of the derivations. Both realizations with strong and weak Gauss law are discussed; the control of the general mechanisms and structures is obtained on the basis of the localization of the (large) gauge transformations and the local generation of the chiral symmetry. The Schwinger model in the temporal gauge exactly reproduces the general results.
