Abstract:Most current semantic web services (SWS) discovery approaches focus on the matchmaking of services in a specific description language while in practical application the advertised services are often heterogeneous and distributed. This paper proposes a metric space approach to resolve this problem in which all heterogeneous web services are modeled as metric objects regardless of concrete description languages, and thereby the discovery problem can be treated as similarity search in metric space with a uniform criterion. In the matchmaking process, both the functional semantics and non-functional semantics of the web services are integrated as selection conditions for similarity query. And two types of similarity queries: range query and an improved nearest neighbor query are combined to produce a sorted result set.

Abstract:This paper proposes performance analysis and comparison between two WS-Resource Framework implementations: Emerging Technologies Toolkit 2.3(ETTK2.3) and Globus Toolkit 4.0.x (GT4). The two toolkits' difference in three aspects: architecture, implementation details and performance, is expatiated. A general formula is given for making choice between them. Based on the trace record of their processing requests, an improved method of ameliorating the process is proposed by curtailing the time cost spending on address locating. Experiments also certificate the increase of efficiency.

Abstract:In this paper, the interoperability problem of WfMS in Agile Supply Chain (ASC) environment is introduced and four typical interoperability models are analyzed. The ASC_WfMF and a WfMS framework combining with Web and CORBA technology are presented to resolve the single point integration problem of WfMS. Finally, a WfMS architecture for ASC environment and a practical implement schema is proposed.

Abstract:The system management technologies based on simple network management protocol (SNMP), web based enterprise management (WBEM) and web services distributed management (WSDM) are evaluated on the aspect of scalability, compatibility and manageability. The comparison are that the performance of SNMP is better than WBEM and WSDM, but the implement complexity, scalability, compatibility and interoperability of SNMP is poor than WBEM and WSDM.

Abstract:Web service composition,as a new technology to fulfill the user’s requirements using existing ones,has become a pop topic in the research of Service Oriented Architecture(SOA).The survey is made on current WSC methods.The concepts and implementing frameworks of WSC are discussed.And based on the research emphases and its dependent technology,WSC methods are classified into process driven WSC such as work-flow based,state-figure and process algebra based methods,and semantics based automatic WSC.The evaluation models and the challenges in research and implementation of WSC have been summarized.

Abstract:Web service is an Internet-based software component that can shield all sorts of resources on basis of standard protocol stack. It helps to raise the level of abstraction and simplify conventional COTS middleware for resource sharing and cooperation across organization. In this paper, a Web service container framework (WSCF) is presented to offer an effective systematic solution for Web service-based application supporting environment, referencing from CORBA and J2EE system managing architecture and using SOAP interoperation protocol. The proposed framework focuses on addressing problems in two aspects: 1) Web service runtime supporting technologies: unified resource mapping strategy, flexible service adaptation mechanism, and SOAP engine scheduling algorithm; 2) several application supporting services: publication and discovery service, Web service composition service, and security service, etc. In particular, it describes ongoing project StarWebService that has followed WSCF. Finally, some open issues about WSCF are introduced and the future direction of WSCF is pointed out.

Abstract:We have been participated in the early research work of using Web service for system management and its standardization work. In this paper, we first review the concept of using Web service for management and compare two main industry standardization efforts - WSDM and WS-Management. We present WS-RM, our resource management model, its implementation, the testbed and management scenarios. Then, we present several selected gap items that are identified between realworld management requirements and current standard as well as our proposed solutions. In the end, we discuss some future work into cloud computing management and using Web service for management integration.

Abstract:In this paper we introduce the semantic Web technology to Web services research,propose a discovery and composition method for Web services which is based on resource ontology.By analysing the relationship between resources,a Web service discovery method based on searching father and son resource class is established.By analysing the input and output relationship between resource and services,a Web service composition methods of step-by-step searching is established as well.Compared with the Web discovery and composition method based on keyword and Web services semantics,the proposed method is fairly good in meeting the requirements of services recall and precision rates,has quite high quality and efficiency on service combination,and fits the Web services closely related to the resources a great deal.
Similarity-based Web Service Matchmaking

Abstract:With the increasing growth in popularity of Web services, matchmaking of relevant Web services becomes a significant challenge. Commonly, Web service is described by WSDL and published on UDDI registers. UDDI provides limited search facilities allowing only a keyword-based search of businesses, services, and the so called tModels based on names and identifiers. This category-based keyword-browsing method is clearly insufficient. Semantic Web service uses DAML-S instead of WSDL to represent capabilities of Web services. This improvement enables software agents or search engines to automatically find appropriate Web services via ontologies and reasoning algorithm enriched methods. However, the high cost of formally defining to the heavy and complicated services makes this improvement widespread adoption unlikely. To cope with these limitations, we have developed a suite of methods which assesses the similarity of Web services to achieve matchmaking. In particular, we present a conceptual model which classifies properties of Web services into four categories. For each category, a similarity assessment method has been given. In Web service matchmaking process, these similarity assessment methods can be used together or individually. Experiments highlight complementary contributions that our work makes to facilitate Web service matchmaking.
ISCF: A Semantic Web Service Composition Framework Based on OAA

Abstract:Through providing an execution environment for semantic web services, SWSF (Semantic Web Service Framework) can facilitate automatic web service delivery, discovery, selection, invoking, composition and interoperation. However, each of those ongoing approaches does not satisfy all basic requirements of SWSF, e.g. OWL-S (Ontology Language of Web Service) does not offer the mechanism for automatic web service tasks' execution and WSMO can not describe the composition of web services in a structural way yet. So, in order to provide a fully- fledged SWSF, we present the ISCF (Integrated Service Composition Framework) which is based on the OAA (Open Agent Architecture ). We describe the technical characters and design objectives of ISCF from global and detailed view. Comparing with other SWSFs, ISCF has more extensible and autonomous distributed architecture, and has more complete and effective web service automatization. In addition, ISCF provide some useful tools to help users design semantic web services and manage ISCF system.

Abstract:Web service composition is gaining a considerable momentum as an approach to the effective integration of distributed, heterogeneous, and autonomous application. Current composed service processes are mostly generated in the syntactic level and in a manual way. The limitation of the approach is that it does not allow business to dynamic change partners and services. In order to avoid this disadvantage, it is critical to map complex business from abstract process to executable flows according to application domain semantics and dynamic business requirements. In this paper, we first present a semantic-based Web service composition framework called SWSCF based on both semantic process recommendation and semantic matchmaking. Then, we analyze some key technologies including: (1) Introducing hierarchical activity mechanism for dynamic decomposition of business requirements to find a suitable semantic process template; (2) Searching and selecting service chain to match a semantic activity template which is used to specify an abstract activity; (3) Devising heterogeneous message transforming mechanism to eliminate the incompatible message types during generating data flow of an executable process. Furthermore, by comparison with some service composition frameworks, we prove SWSCF to be more flexible and effective.

Abstract:The growing proliferation of distributed information systems, allows organizations to offer their business processes to a worldwide audience through Web services. Semantic Web services have emerged as a means to achieve the vision of automatic discovery, selection, composition, and invocation of Web services by encoding the specifications of these software components in an unambiguous and machine-interpretable form. Several frameworks have been devised as enabling technologies for Semantic Web services. In this paper, we survey the prominent Semantic Web service frameworks. In addition, a set of criteria is identified and the discussed frameworks are evaluated and compared with respect to these criteria. Knowing the strengths and weaknesses of the Semantic Web service frameworks can help researchers to utilize the most appropriate one according to their needs.

The time management is a crucial issue in web service composition. This paper presents a time management model for the environment. In this model a service should provide necessary time value,. In this way Web service definition language will be expanded, and time management in web service composition can be simplified. On the other hand, it preserves the autonomy of the web services.

Abstract:The integration of services in heterogeneous, distributed grid environment is dynamic and diverse because of the disparate resources. Hence, this integration can be technically challenged due to the need of achieving various service when running on different platforms. So, in a grid environment, implementations of GIS (geographic information system) should not only concern their internal spatial characteristics, but also deal with the grid resources properties. In this paper, we brought forward an architecture of spatial data grid, of which the OGC-compliant service, Performance Management Service, wrapped into standard WSRF services, providing a transparent way to select the appropriate spatial data service providers in a dynamic spatial data grid and hides the complexity of the interface and scheduling strategy from users to coordinate those required services. Experiments show that our design of WSRF-based GIS services can perform guarantees and lead to better spatial resource sharing and significant service performance.

Abstract:HLA and Web Service (WS) are two powerful architectures for interoperability. Although the original purposes of them are not very closer, now we can mix them together to solve some question in the simulation. WSRF specifies stateful Web Services. It takes us lot of facilities when we counter with many resources and states in the WS. In this paper, we focus on developing a framework to combine the RTI and WSRF together and that is the so-called “WSRF-based Web Service RTI”. We encapsulate the standard RTI methods by GT4-a complete implementation of the WSRF specification, on the server, and deploy these GT4 interfaces. On the client, these WSRF interfaces are integrated by several classes, and these classes have same names and interfaces with the standard HLA/RTI classes. The users can use them to develop HLA simulation system. The WSRF-based Web Service RTI is Web Service not RTI. The main communication information is SOAP message between the clients and servers, so it provides reusability and flexibility to the simulation development and course. The structure of the framework and the detailed design are introduced in the paper. Of course, the encapsulation on RTI by GT4 will bring some additional overhead, so at the end of this paper, we test the time latency benchmark of the pRTI and the WSRF-based Web Service RTI.

Abstract:Grid computing is becoming a mainstream technology for large-scale distributed resource sharing and system integration. In grid environment, everything can be regarded as a grid service. Workflow technology has grown to be an important method to manage processes and resource. Building a distributed workflow management system (WFMS) based on grid services brings many attractive characteristics such as great efficiency, higher fault tolerant ability, good load balancing and reliability etc. This paper presents the architecture of s-WFMS, a service-based workflow management system in grid environment. In s-WFMS, most functional components of a WFMS are abstracted and evolved to high-level grid services. A feasible implementation method of the architecture is also presented.
