Abstract:Research and application of botanical pesticides, including plant chem ical defense, botanical pesticides, plant protestants, and tropical plant pestic ides are briefly reviewed. The research and application of botanical bactericide s and botanical herbicides are far less intensive and extensive compared with th e botanical insecticides. However, current researches indicates that a wide rang e of plants had the capacity of controlling weeds, bacteria and fungi. There is, therefore, a great prospect to exploit plant resources to develop bactericides, fungicides and herbicides.

Abstract:In this review, the methodologies for fluorine incorporation of 40 fluorine-containing agrochemicals that received an international standardization organization (ISO) name during the last decade are described. The predominant approach for fluorine introduction of these agrochemicals is to use a fluorine-containing building block. Here we present how the fluorine-containing building blocks are introduced into these agrochemicals. The synthetic methods of fluorine-containing building blocks that are not easily available are also specifically discussed. Fluoroarenes, difluomethylarenes and trifluomethylarenes are the main building blocks that have been used in this review. Fluorine-containing small molecules, such as alcohol, amine, ketoester, olefin, etc., are also widely used. The only example of late-stage fluorination is the synthesis of fungicide quinofumelin. We believe the fluorine introduction methods described here can provide ideas for the development of new and economical pesticide synthetic routes, and stimulate researchers to develop new fluorine incorporation methods and create new pesticides.

Abstract:Abstract New advances in nanotechnology are driving a wave of technology revolution impacting a broad range of areas in agricultural production. The current work reviews nanopesticides, nano-fabricated fertilizers, and nano activity-based growth promoters reported in the last several years, focusing on mechanisms revealed for preparation and functioning. It appears to us that with many fundamental concepts have been demonstrated over last two decades, new advances in this area continue to expand mainly in three directions, i.e., efficiency improvement, material sustainability and environment-specific stimulation functionalities. It is also evident that environmental and health concerns associated with nano agrochemicals are the primary motivation and focus for most recent work. Challenges and perspectives for future development of nano agrochemicals are also discussed.

Abstract:Per-and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) are an emerging kind of persistent organic pollutant currently widely used in industrial and daily life supplies.With high-energy C-F bonds,PFASs have excellent physical,chemical properties and biological stability and have drawn the attention of researchers all over the world due to their high persistence,bioaccumulation potential,toxicity and ubiquitous distribution in the environment,biota and humans.It is of vital importance to look for fluorinated alternatives to long-chain PFASs.This paper summarizes hot issues about PFASs alternatives,such as environmental distribution and behavior,persistence,human exposure and toxicity.The emphasis is laid on existing problems and future research perspectives so as to provide evidence for the investigation of existing problems and future research directions.

Abstract:The entomopathogenic fungus, Paecilomyces fumosoroseus, infecfs numerous insect pests. In the present paper, the encouraging progress and achievements worldwide in research and application of the fungus during the past decade were reviewed on aspects of host range, biology, secondary metabolites, genetic variability, natural occurrence, virulence, and formulation. The experience with the use of P.fumosoroseus for whitefly control in western countries could facilitate the utilization of the fungus as microbial control agent in China.

Abstract:Fluorine chemistry plays an increasingly important role in pharmaceutical, agricultural, and materials industries. The incorporation of fluorine-containing groups into organic molecules can improve their chemical and physical properties, which attracts continuous interest in organic synthesis. Among various reported methods, transition-metal-catalyzed fluorination/fluoroalkylation has emerged as a powerful method for the construction of these compounds. This review attempts to describe the major advances in the transition-metal-catalyzed incorporation of fluorine, trifluoromethyl, difluoromethyl, trifluoromethylthio, and trifluoromethoxy groups reported between 2011 and 2019.

Abstract:Perfluorinatedphosphonic acids( PFPAs) are new commercial surfactants used as leveling and wetting agents for waxes and coatings and inert defoaming additives to pesticide formulations. The lack of available toxicity data and potential concerns about persistence were contributing factors for the U. S. EPA to decide to no longer permit to use of these chemicals in food-use pesticides. PFPAs are discussed in aspects of the registration and use situation,structure and environmental behavior,environmental levels and exposure toxicity of based on recent literatures. This work aimed to provide a comprehensive understanding to provide basic background and data for environmental risk assessment in China.

Abstract:Fluorinated molecules have a wide range of applications and are used as medicines, agrochemicals and refrigerants and in smartphone liquid crystal displays, photovoltaic solar cells, Teflon tapes and the coatings of textiles and buildings. Fluorination and fluoroalkylation — incorporation of a trifluoromethyl, difluoromethyl or monofluoromethyl group — are the major strategies used for the construction of carbon–fluorine bonds and fluorinated carbon–carbon bonds, respectively. The past two decades have witnessed a rapid growth in fluorination and fluoroalkylation methods thanks to the development of new reagents and catalysts. This Primer aims to provide an overview of state-of-the-art strategies in fluorination, trifluoromethylation, difluoromethylation and monofluoromethylation, with an emphasis on using C–H functionalization, although other strategies for fluorination and fluoroalkylation are also discussed. Further landmark achievements are expected in the fields of fluorination and fluoroalkylation as organofluorine compounds are used increasingly in everyday applications.

Abstract:Fluorine is a halogen element widely distributed in nature, but due to excessive emissions from industrial manufacturing and agricultural production, etc., the soil is over-enriched with fluoride and the normal growth of plants is under stress, and it also poses a great threat to human health. In this review, we summarized the sources of fluoride in soil, and then analyzed the potential mechanisms of fluoride uptake in soil-plant systems. In addition, the main influences of soil ecosystems on plant fluoride uptake were discussed, soil management options to mitigate fluoride accumulation in plants were also summarized. The bioremediation techniques were found to be a developmental direction to improve fluoride pollution. Finally, we proposed other research directions, including fluoride uptake mechanisms in soil-plant systems at the molecular expression levels, development of visualization techniques for fluoride transport in plants, interactions mechanisms between soil microhabitats and plant metabolism affecting fluoride uptake, as well as combining abiotic additives, nanotechnology and biotechnology to remediate fluoride contamination problems.

Abstract:Difluoromethyl (CF2H) groups have been found in many listed pesticides due to their unique physical and chemical properties and outstanding biological activity. In pesticide molecules, compared with the drastic changes brought by trifluoromethyl, difluoromethyl usually moderately regulates the metabolic stability, lipophilicity, bioavailability, and binding affinity of compounds. Therefore, difluoromethylation has become an effective means to modify the biological activity of pesticide molecules. This paper reviews the representative literatures and patents containing difluoromethyl groups in the past 10 years, and introduces the research progress. The aim is to provide an effective reference value for the study of difluoromethyl in pesticides.

Abstract:Creating new insecticide lead compounds based on the design and modification of natural products is a novel process, of which chlorfenapyr is a typical successful example. Chlorfenapyr is an arylpyrrole derivative that has high biological activity, a wide insecticidal spectrum, and a unique mode of action. For decades, a series of chlorfenapyr derivatives were designed and synthesized continuously, of which many highly active insecticidal compounds were discovered sequentially. However, due to the widespread application of chlorfenapyr and its degradation properties, some adverse effects, including pest resistance and environmental toxicity, occurred. In this review, a brief history of the discovery and development of chlorfenapyr is first introduced. Then, the synthesis, structural modification, structure activity relationship, and action mechanism of arylpyrroles are summarized. However, challenges and limitations still exist, especially in regard to the connection with pest resistance and environmental toxicology, which is discussed at the end of this review. This comprehensive summary of chlorfenapyr further promotes its progress and sensible application for pest management.

Abstract:The worldwide industries and scientific communities have raised various research works to develop surfaces with special wettability for a variety of applications. Fluorinated synthesis materials as currently widespread liquid repellent products proved to adversely affect human health and environment. As eco-friendly and non-toxic alternatives, artificial superhydrophobic surfaces inspired by nature non-wettable biological structures have received both academic and practical attention. The recent development on fluorine-free superhydrophobic surface design and the state-of-the-art techniques have widely applied in marine, medical, textiles and other fields. The manufacture and negative environmental impact of fluorinated materials have been discussed, as well as the classical natural superhydrophobic surfaces and theoretical models.

Abstract:A large amount of fluorine−containing wastewater was produced with the rapid development of the industry. Excessive fluoride content in water will not only endanger ecological security but also pose threat to human health. In this study, common new adsorbents for defluorination, such as metal−based adsorbents, natural adsorbents, and nanomaterial adsorbents were reviewed for its physicochemical properties and fluorine removal efficiency. The fluorine removal mechanism of different adsorbents was introduced in detail, and the future work of the removal of fluorine using novel adsorbents was proposed. This research also introduces the application of the coupling of the adsorption method with the technology of chemical precipitation, filtration, and super−magnetic separation to treat high concentration of fluoride wastewater. A good selection of process combinations according to different needs can achieve high−efficiency defluorination in water. Finally, some existing problems of practical operation of fluorine using removal materials in the environment are summarized, hoping to contribute to the future research of fluorine removal materials.

Abstract:Fluorinated graphene (FG), as an emerging member of the graphene derivatives family, has attracted wide attention on account of its excellent performances and underlying applications. The introduction of a fluorine atom, with the strongest electronegativity (3.98), greatly changes the electron distribution of graphene, resulting in a series of unique variations in optical, electronic, magnetic, interfacial properties and so on. Herein, recent advances in the study of FG from synthesis to applications are introduced, and the relationship between its structure and properties is summarized in detail. Especially, the functional chemistry of FG has been thoroughly analyzed in recent years, which has opened a universal route for the functionalization and even multifunctionalization of FG toward various graphene derivatives, which further broadens its applications. Moreover, from a particular angle, the structure engineering of FG such as the distribution pattern of fluorine atoms and the regulation of interlayer structure when advanced nanotechnology gets involved is summarized. Notably, the elaborated structure engineering of FG is the key factor to optimize the corresponding properties for potential applications, and is also an up-to-date research hotspot and future development direction. Finally, perspectives and prospects for the problems and challenges in the study of FG are put forward.

Synthesis and Bioactivity of Fipronil Phosphorothioate Derivatives

Abstract:9 novel fipronil phosphorothioate derivatives were synthesized starting from 5-amino-1-(2,6-dichloro-4-trifluoromethylphenyl)-3-cyanopyrazole-4-disulfide(1) via reduction and phosphoratation.The structures of all compounds were confirmed by IR,1H NMR,and MS spectra.Preliminary bioassays showed that all new compounds exhibited 100% lethal efficiency against Culex pipiens pallens at 50 mg/L.
