Randomized controlled trial of 308nm excimer laser combined with topical tacrolimus ointment in the treatment of vitiligo

Abstract:Objectives To observe and evaluate the efficacy and safety of the combined therapy using 308nm excimer laser and topical tacrolimus ointment in the treatment of vitiligo.Methods 137 vitiligo patients were recruited in the randomized self-controlled study.Lesions in the symmetrical regio were randomly divided into two groups including the combined treatment group and the control group using only 308nm excimer laser.The clinical therapeutic efficacy was analyzed after using the therapy for two months.Resluts 97.8% of the patients(134/137) in the treatment group as well as 84.7% of the patients(116/137) in the control group were repigmented.Additionally,there were 47.7% of the patients(65/137) in the treatment group and 24.8% of the patients(34/137) in the control group whose repigmentation rate was no less than 50%.Significant differences of the repigmentation rate were observed between the two groups(P<0.05).Conclusions The combined therapy of 308nm excimer laser with topical tacrolimus ointment is more effective in the treatment of vitiligo with little adverse reactions.
