Expression and significance of COX-2 and HIF-1α in bladder transitional cell carcinoma tissue

Abstract:Objective To investigate the expression and significance of COX-2,HIF-1α in bladder transitional cell carcinoma(BTCC).Method The COX-2 and HIF-1α were assessed by immunohistochemistry in tissue sections from 64 patiens with BTCC and in 19 normal bladder samples.Results There were no marked expression of COX-2 and HIF-1α in normal bladder samples.The positive rate of COX-2 and HIF-1α were respectively 54.7%(35/64),42.2%(27/64),the positive expression of COX-2 and HIF-1α were all significantly correlated with histological grade and clinical stage in BTCC(P<0.01).There was relatively correlation between the overexpression of COX-2 and HIF-1α in BTCC each other(r=0.460,P<0.01).Conclusions The overexpression of COX-2 and HIF-1α are associated with tumour grades,stages in BTCC.There is positive correlation between the expression of COX-2 and HIF-1α in BTCC.COX-2 and HIF-1α all possibly play an important role in development and progression of BTCC.
