Psychological Mechanism of Chinese Sentence Production:The State of the Art

Abstract:As a comparatively new field of psycholinguistic research,studies on Chinese language production have limitations both in the scope of research topics and in research methodology.Some researchers took advantage of the unique linguistic properties of the Chinese language to shed light on the mechanism of language production at the stage of conceptualization and grammatical encoding.Most researchers employed the syntactic priming paradigm to explore the extent to which bilinguals share syntactic representations between two languages.Further studies are called for to inform the nature of syntactic priming.Potential interesting areas of studies on Chinese language production include the integration of word production and sentence production models,and bilingual sentence production with Chinese as L1/L2.The advancement in these areas should be based on the development of research tools.
