Abstract:A new manganese (III) compound, [Mn(napn)(CH3OH)(2)]ClO4 (C26H26ClN2O8Mn, M-r = 584.88, napn = N,N-ethylenebis(1-naphtholideneaminato)dianion), was synthesized and characterized by IR spectroscopy and single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. The crystal data are as follows: triclinic system, space group P (1) over bar, a = 7.813(1), b = 13.025(2), c = 14.089(2) Angstrom, alpha = 64.89(3), beta = 83.98(3), gamma = 78.11(3)degrees, V = 1270.16 Angstrom(3), Z = 2, D-c = 1.529 g/cm(3), F(000) = 604, R = 0.0837 and wR = 0.1636 (all data). The structure consists of one [Mn(napn)(CH3OH)(2)](+) cation and one ClO4- anion. The Mn (III) ion is six-coordinated, and the coordination sphere can be described as a distorted octahedron, due to the Jahn-Teller effect. The tetradentate Schiff-base ligand, napn, coordinates to the central metal atom with the N2O2 donor set of it on the equatorial plane (Mn-O: 1.691(4) and 2.069(5) Angstrom; Mn-N: 1.725(5) and 2.145(6) A). Two O atoms of the two CH3OH molecules occupy the axial positions of the central metal atom with the Mn-O distances of 2.333(6) and 2.371(7) Angstrom. The O...H-O hydrogen bonds are present both in the molecule and between two molecules.
