Abstract:In order to investigate the effects of peanut protein on lipid metabolism in growing rats. 36 male Sprague-Dawley rats〔average bw is(67.6±1.9)g〕were divided into four groups randomly and fed semi-synthetic diets, which based on 20% casein(Casein Group,CG),20% soy protein(Soybean Protein Group,SPG),14% casein plus 6% barley leave protein(Barley Leave Protein Group,BLPG)and 20% peanut protein(Peanut Protein Group,PPG)respectively. After a period of 5 weeks, both the serum and hepatic lipid parameters were analyzed. Results showed that values of serum total cholesterol(TC)contents did not differ significantly among the four treatment groups(P>0.05),but serum triglyceride(TG)level of PPG was significantly lower compared to CG(P<0.01). Serum high density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-C)and low density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C)levels of SPG corresponded to that of CG,while serum HDL-C level of BLPG and PPG were significantly higher compared to rats of CG(P<0.01)and SPG(P<0.01). In contrast to this, values for serum LDL-C in these groups were significantly lower than in CG(P<0.01). Compared to CG,hepatic TG levels of SPG and PPG were significantly reduced(P<0.01 respectively)but significantly increased(P<0.01)in rats of BLPG. It indicated that based on above data, peanut protein has shown a beneficial effect on lipid metabolism. Therefore, the physiological character of peanut protein on lipid metabolism providing a theoretical basis for exploit the healthy industry of peanut protein.
